They've made it so that the old stuff stays hidden unless you specifically go looking for it and even then most windows have rounded corners. That needs to be there so Technicians don't have to relearn an entire OS. Lots of governments and businesses depend on windows and deleting that for an aesthetic would fuk everything up. Plus this is a beta... Remember we're talking about Panos, the guy who created the billion dollar Surface brand and Satya who manuvered M$ to a Trillion dollars while deftly avoiding any of the potential antitrust violations that Apple, FB and Amazon are being investigated for. I trust their vision.

Apple idea of bringing iOS apps to Mac is just useless, that because Mac OS can't even works with touchscreen, it just dumb. Meanwhile Windows has no problem with bringing native android apps, don't like Amazon app store? that's fine, you can install apk manually just like you do on your phone.

I disagree, a centered start isn't good on ultrawide monitors if you can't even put the task bar on the side instead of on the bottom. If you have a REALLY wide monitor then being forced to keep the taskbar at the bottom uses up a lot of space.

inconsistency is not remotely the same as complex

ms should simply make windows 10 consinstent in design and remove all the win 3.1 - 8.1 crap and make a win 10 equivalent
      everybody would be happy
who the fuck wants a phone os on pc? just get a tablet/big phone
if you have a 24" or 32" display and use a mouse, it is stupid too make everything so big, besides windows 10 is touch friendly already
windows 11 sucks because it removed many win 10 things and is even more inconsistent

i think people are focusing too much on "android apps on your PC" as in desktop or laptop, i think microsoft made windows 11 to make their surface line much more compelling against iPads. every review of a surface says "its good but you need at least the keyboard cover, but the ipad is very touch friendly" along with APPS! now windows has desktop apps AND android apps. a surface just got a lot more compelling all the sudden. surfaces have been seen more as productivity based, i think they're trying to capture the loungey nature of iPads, get ur tiktok, instagram, ect (they even said during the presentation "a keyboard or mouse isnt needed anymore" along with redesigning their virtual keyboard that looks exactly like android/ios/ipados keyboard)
meanwhile iPads are trying to feel more productivity based, perhaps they're doing such a good job microsoft now has to say "hey, we do productivity AND play", they can no longer just sit back and be the no-brainer choice for workloads as iPads get better and better every year.
(debatable choice partnering with amazon and not saying "btw u can sideload" during the presentation, considering how people feel about amazon rn)

You nailed it, the UI is purposely designed to be touch friendly to serve as a bridge between a touch OS and windows OS experience. Android app integration seems like a workaround for those who want access to a larger library of touch centric apps over regular windows apps with no built in touch integration which was an ongoing issue with getting developers to create quality touch supported apps for the windows store.

The UI needs to change when in touch screen mode. Some of the Touch Screen changes they made in 11 is good, others are terrible.
    When in touch screen:
    1) Full screen Start Screen
    2) Bring back swipe from the left to switch windows
    3) Auto-hide (or completely hide the taskbar when in touch mode
    4) Context menus should be larger when in touch screen but smaller when in desktop mode (instead of always larger like now)
    5) Trouch Friendly versions of office, Windows explorer, and edge (but again only when in touch mode)
This would really make windows convertibles something awesome.

Windows 11 reminds me a lot of that weird dual-screen phone that came out along with a updated Android launcher. I dont hate it, there are a lot of things I like but knowing Microsoft, I'm really on the fence. I kind of don't like how windows keeps trying to copy inferior products (like chromeOS), but if they actually do allow android apps to run (not holding my breath) that would be really cool because some of the minor issues I've had with windows 10 would disappear if I could just use the mobile version of the apps I use. Some apps don't scale or respond properly to that screen-splitting thing that windows has done since 8.

An advantage for store on windows that I just realized although I still don't use the store much but I have to point this out, is that you can start the download for all the apps you'll ever want and let them download in a queue and they will install automatically, especially if you're busy, you don't have to wait for an installer to finish downloading then you come and go through it's setup before you're finally done and can use the software. It saves time, and if the windows store gets more good apps and include more popular freeware us use, it will be convincing to me.

for the record, TPM 2.0 is required but you can bypass that, but secure boot is a fundamental thing your motherboard must support it
and the compatibility checker MKB talked about just let you know if your PC eligible or not but it will not activate the secure boot for you, you have to do it your self

Me being a student, there have been times where I wish I had a specific mobile app that I needed on my PC and had to go to my phone to get. The app gap on Windows was a generational curse. Disappointed at this show so decided to draw your attention to some points:
First and foremost, when a new version of an operating system arrives, drivers are the main concern.
As for the UI, I would say ditching flat design after these years is a proper move.
And how can you talk about something like windows store that have never used?
Is lighter? Is it as stable as it is expected to be? The technical menu is confusing like in win 10?
There are loads of questions that you don’t even bother to think about not some optional features like installing android apps or not …

If they actually want “better UI”, they should make separate interfaces to fit the different devices, instead of this bullshit middle ground that pleases no one.
Microsoft got the PC interface perfectly fine back with Windows 95. I say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And if Bill Gates absolutely NEEDS to make another hundred billion dollars, they can try giving the phones they’re own system, so they don’t mess up everything for the rest of their customers.

We already have a touchpads or trackpads on PC, finding a way to allow it perform certain touch inputs through that could work.
Quick look for pc allows me to scroll images with my mouse or trackpad (using gestures) when I'm zoomed in.. Windows default picture app doesn't allow. I'd have to click and drag..
So for scrolling, that could come in handy, I mean, windows has all the gestures... You could take your mouse over the app and start performing these actions.. Right click for double tap, click for tap..
