Netflix Is Phasing Out Its Ad-Free Basic Plan, But At What Cost? - IGN The Fix: Entertainment

- After raising its subscription prices for its premium tier last year, Netflix is now planning on getting rid of its Basic plan for subscribers entirely. The company is continuing its password sharing crackdown and doing away with its $11.99 ad-free option. That means the ad-free tier will now be limited to Standard and Premium. And as we reported with its previous price hikes, if you have the premium subscription plan, you’ll be paying $23 dollars a month in the U.S. With the lowest priced ad-free subscription plan being $12 dollars a month. Those tiers saw a $2 dollar increase from their previous monthly fees. Netflix’s move to an ad-supported subscription model might be inspired by RUclips, whose videos are laden with 2 sometimes 3 ads in a row before you get to the content you want to watch. If you don’t have an ad-blocker installed, of course. Regardless, #Netflix obviously sees the value in an ad-supported model which is likely increasing revenue for the streaming giant.

Pirating has never sounded better
Exactly
FR
With lack of physical media, they're practically forcing us to.
@@Meh-el1ejthe sailing has never stopped lmao

The whole point of Netflix was not to be like tv lmao
You people hadn't realized that cable never truly left us! It just took on a different form
That's not even funny.

Isn't this like the 10th price hike/increase in the past 3 years?
Netflix needs to stop gatekeeping 4K resolution it's disgusting
Netflix is now Cable TV.
They have lost the value proposition they started out with.
Greed is one hell of a drug, when inflation rises, everything else out there wants a piece of that drug

They have infinite supplies of money from all over the world, so theres literally no reason for this except complete spite for its audience.
Infinite supply of money? When they're in 15B debt and just made a 4B deal with the WWE?
It’s greed and poor money handling.
They spent A LOT of money to keep friends and Seinfeld on their lineup for awhile so bad decisions, they deserve it@@bizzy214
Piracy is the only option at this point. If you actually want to view a wide array of videos. I'd prefer to do it legally and support artists, but the fragmentation and price hiking and more ads is getting ridiculous.
If my family starts getting sexy time ads because of my anime history I’m going to be pissed
Been pirating since the share block and if if anyone thinks it's hard it's not, don't let these major corporations take your hard earned money when they do things like this
You just admitted to being a theif and the company is the issue?!?! 😂😂😂😂

Prices are going up more🙄
Best economy right?
Ive cancelled Amazon due to this, if Netflix brings it to the UK im gone from there too
Cancel my Netflix subscription
In the word of a guy wearing straw hat "I'M GOING TO BE KING OF THE PIRATE!"
Might as well go back to buying full DVD sets
Absolutely. Nothing more infuriating than when they ditch your series mid-binge, making you wish you just bought it that one time in the first place. The fact you can buy the whole of Breaking Bad or The X-Files permanently for £50 can actually be better value anyway than spending the same or more over that time to ‘borrow’ them for a few months.
If lots of people canceled them like bud light they'd walk backwards 😂
cancelled netflix two years ago and have never missed it since. just do it, y’all
Don't lie. You just stopped getting it free from someone else. 😂
Done!
Cancel time
Netflix getting real greedy
Pirating and physical media will become a popular option again for people who are sick of "convenience" when there's so many subscriptions at this point and scattered content, how can you keep supporting it.
Amazon Prime has Hazbin Hotel ❤ and is cheaper

Netflix sees record profits ..increases prices.
Is it true that the adverts version has 10% less content than the standard ones?
How Netflix became big: cheap and convenient.
Now it's neither one. soooo... back to pirating

Okay use another service
Companies are getting too greedy and overworking their employees. They are due for the government to come in and put the hammer down. However, for some reason, it seems the government is on their side this time around

My best suggestion if you don’t want ads without breaking the law is to only keep your subscription active for things you want to binge watch or just watch one time. Once you have watched what you want to watch, cancel your subscription until it’s time to return to Netflix at a later date for another temporary period. Sure it might take a few more seconds. But in the long run you save money so 10 to 30 seconds for cancelling a subscription is worth it. And while it will take another 10-30 seconds to reactivate it. Over time, your bank account will thank you at the expense of the Netflix Executives who will have a lower Christmas bonus,
It seems that’s they’re shaping the new business model around the WWE Raw acquisition
yeah, I'm sure a service with 260,000,000 users is shaping itself around a product that gets 0.7% of that.

See this is why Amazon is infinitely times better they are making it affordable if you are low income or if you have ebt
Except there adding ads to Prime at the end of the month, and adding a tier to remove ads.
1st 😊
But what about the movies and shows Netflix has on offer? Aren't they worth it?
stop giving money to subscription services, people. the power is in your hands.
Netflix doesn’t have an original show/movie catalogue that at all justifies these tone deaf business practices they’ve been implementing lately
Bidenomics
Okay Blockbuster Video rental here is your come back year, where else can you rent video games, bring back brick and motor again seems like that's where we're headed back full circle. As soon as there is ads on netflix bye bye had you since the beginning Netflix but that would be the nail on the coffin really, gone. Yo make a higher price option give newer releases, that's what blockbuster did they competed to be the first to have all the newest coolest movies, instead Netflix wants to poop in a box and double the price.
