This is cool man! Something that can sound quite musical and intuitive, have the velocity affecting the filter rather than the overall volumn, you'll hear the synth open up with more attack, and the softer notes will also get more mellow naturally.
i would have just put that one note to play at low velocity in the daw, and then make another "pattern" with the other notes / melody, but just turn off or down the other effects in the melody, if you want them to play quiet with your note. but im an amature, so maybe thats far from what you want..
it's kind of silly, because with most premade synth patches, your suggestion is exactly correct and what I would do haha. I kind of big brained myself since I was building a patch from scratch.
