I agree with Murakami, having worked the graveyard shift stocking shelves in a 24-hour supermarket. We could sort of tell time by the kinds of people in the store. Insomniacs, teens with the munchies, reverse commuters, coming home from the city by train at 5 am. It was a more informal, laid back time, with few managers in the store. The transition to daytime, around 7am, was shocking.
The way you talk about books makes me want to read everything you read 🖤
the way you described murakami’s novel as pockets and spaces made my heart so full! ah i can’t wait to read drive your plow, i haven’t heard anyone talk about it on booktube before 😌
I picked up After Dark after hearing you talk about it and I’m only 33% of ebook and I’m obsessed. It’s my first Murakami what a good recommendation thus far
You definitely sold me on After Dark especially with the soundtracks to follow along with, can't wait to read it!
I really love how you talk about and analyze each book so eloquently and read such diverse literature! New subscriber! 💕
you are literally glowing in this video ❤️
I’m so excited for this video! Also you’re the cutest person ever!💛
I love all of your videos! Your whole personality is just amazing!
lately i've been hearing people express that they thing a gathering of shadows is the weakest book in the series, so i'm glad to hear you say you enjoyed it! it was my favorite, i think, but i love magical competitions, so that definitely played a big part. also, i just have to compliment your eloquence when you talk about books, it really helps those of us looking for recs. as always, appreciate you
oh my, I'm REALLY intrigued by Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead!
you should make a recommendation video about books that remained you or gave you the feelings of a liminal space(?
Love your videos and thanks to your review, I'm really interested in *City of Girls* . I'm also waiting for my copy of *Can You Hear the Nightbird Call* to arrive later this month per your recommendation.
Your vocabulary is astounding! Slightly envious.
2d comment - just wanted to add that I love the way you're able to express the sense of Blake's lines when you recite them.
I read The Phantom of the Opera today. The copy was from the library and only 83 pages, so a lot of the story was probably cut out. I’m definitely going to buy my own copy without anything cut out. It truly is an amazing book. I can see why you love it 😊❤️
After Dark is my favourite Murakami book but i'd forgotten why, thanks for reminding me! aside from ninth house and the civil war you sold me on all the other books, too =]
Your voice is so soothing 💖
Your voice and the way you speak is sooo pretty😍😍😍
i now always click on your videos immediately :') i adore how you express your ideas & feelings...
Heyyy love your look in the vid! I love watching your videos cause I really relate to you and your taste in books📚 💕
Awe thank you so much!
* e m m i e * you’re very welcome ☺️
OMG ADDING THESE TO MY TBR!
I would LOVE to see a video about how you annotate your books!
i recently found out your channel and i'm binge watching your videos!!! much love from brazil ❤
awe hi welcome aboard! sending all the love back
I love how cute you are, your videos are so relaxing
so happy you enjoyed a gathering of shadows! A Darker Shade of Magic was good but not my favorite, gathering of shadows was so much fun and ugh I love Kell and Alucard
the best duo yes
Hey em! I really enjoy your videos! I wanted to ask you something. In one of your vlogs you said you would like to annotate your new copy of wuthering heights. I was hoping you'd be willing to film it , and not just like I do that that and that more like a walkthrough (if you don't mind ofc!) It would be really appreciated Thank you!! xx
I just love your channel and how you express your feelings, my the is more long now :,)
And do you have any recommendations from where to start with murakami?
*tbr oops, autocorrect :,)
Sherman's _Memoirs_ contains maps. West Point ofc is an engineering school, and looking at his hand-drawn maps one immediately understands the close relationship between the martial studies and engineering. Grant's _Memoirs_ , a well-know classic, also has hand-drawn war maps. You might be doing yourself a favor to look at one or both. Thx for the video - enjoyed.
Olga Tokarczuk is as biological as lyrical in her writing. She elevates the ordinary to the level of wondrous and brings the transcendent onto your plate with a simple, blunt statement for easier digestion. Feel lucky to be Polish and read her first hand!
I'm so motivated by your vedios and they are very interesting. Are the stickies for highlighted quotes?
Can’t wait to read after dark it’s sounded so good :)))
*whispers* Alucard.....I felt that (also your earrings are so cute!!! did you make them?)
I have Ondaatje on my syllabus this year!
i just ordered after dark today!
Now I really need to give Murakami another try.
Just wanted to say thanks for sharing your love for books who doesn't love to read?
Am I going to take a book rec from Emma from 3 years ago?? Hell yeah. Horror isn't my thing but drive your plow over the bones of the dead sounds too interesting to let pass
You really remind me of CariCakes for some reason... but with brown hair. Partly your looks, but also the way you move and talk.
You should read 'A Bed for the Night' by David Rieff. It touches on many of the humanitarian crises and wars of the world and it really exposes how convoluted and screwed up these are.
Agh... i'm also going to buy City of girls... i have no choice! Is this what addiction is like? Lol.
I’d quite like to read ‘Drive your Plow...’ but can you tell me if there is any animal cruelty/slaughter in it? I really can’t deal with that 😢
so much of it, it's kind of what the story rotates around:/ It was definitely hard to read
Tokarczuk ❤️
Great video 🌸 I hope you are doing well Emma (◍•ᴗ•◍) Have a fantastic day 💕
The ninth house leigh book is so freaking shady because Yale is actually thought to include satanic groups within the university in real life lol
i can't watch a video of yours without getting out with a new book added to my tbr, it's just not realistic
super distracted by Fox News logo on a history book, and cringing at what might be in it...
unfortunately I found it on Libby and didn't realize it was a fox news production until I had finished the audiobook, definitely was not the best :/
@@emmiereads *great wash of relief runs over me* lol :D
I know this is like a five month old video, but when you are reading about the Civil War you have to consider who the author is. The reason is that in America, depending if you are in the South or North, you will be taught two different stories. Like in the South, the Civil War about states rights. However in the North, it is about slavery. Bill O'Reilly isn't my favorite guy since he is on Fox News and that is a Republican/Conservative news outlet and chances are that book was quite biased. Also, I always forget you aren't American, so when you were talking about the Vietnam War and how shocked you were by the Presidents' response to it, it made me laugh. Just wait until you read in depth about the AIDS crisis, you will want to bring Reagan back from the dead and kill him.
