Once upon a time, in the late '50s or early '60s, I went for a visit to my grand parents's home. Across the road was the stone house that was made of thousands of stones glued together with cement. Behind it was the "Old Barn" which was filled with stuff going back to the 1800s. There was a old radio in there with huge radio tubes in it with silver contacts coming out of their tops. They were the size of a can of Coke. It was the winter time & I took one of them & carried it across the road in my hot little hand. I had to piss so I went in the house to do so. There was a thin coating of snow on the ground, & I figured I'd toss the tube out in the yard where it'd be cushioned by the snow & then get it again when I came back out. The family dog, a German shepherd was laying in the snow there & without looking, I tossed the tube. The glass of the tube was warm from my hand when it hit the cold snow, it couldn't take the change in temperature & shattered. It landed right beside the doggie & made a bang like a shotgun. The dog got up, cussed & swore like a drunken sailor on shore leave & stormed away in a huff.
d-auuwwhhh! So amaaziing. these things are gorgeous works of art. It's too bad they can be so fragile. Shipping them is almost impossible and way too risky.
