Hi Tony Hope all is well with you all Just see you have a part Two of this so I’m on catch up Love the Tony touch on this build already looking superb - Now I’m clicking on to part 2 😉 Triple thumbs up buddy 👍👍👍 Garry
Tony, you certainly have a great eye for detail. Great to watch this come a long and as always inspirational. It is going to look fantastic! Thanks for sharing, Jerry
Cheer's Jerry. what can i say. layouts are always evolving as you know a little detail here and a little bit of detail there, and it changes the the look instantly. the next video i will go into the history of the pit that is now a monument near high shields.....thanks again for commenting best wishes Tony
Hi Rob. the trouble is its a very small space. and your right you have to plan to get the most out of it, hope you don't have to wait to long for the next instalment, weather man says its gonna rain Saturday. rainy days means model time. thank you again..….best wishes Tony
Hi Dave, weathering those walls was a pain, paint was drying so quick. the wall ended up being to dark in my mind, the pit is coming along very nicely had to some extra work on the winding tower, which you we see in the video.....thanks as always best wishes Tony
Hi Tony. As a stand alone model you've done some nice work on the pit buildings however I'm not sure a shaft would be dropped with so much infrastructure surrounding it. I suppose if the space is all you've got then modelling 'rule one' has to be the answer. Be interesting to see how the scene develops in part two.
Hi James. yes I can see what you mean about the shaft having so much infrastructure around it, but there is a in south shields where the main shaft was built within a building. which will all be explain in the final video of the huge undertaking. although it wont be an exact replica due to the nature of the buildings that I have put together. but it will have some similarities, the pit was closed in 1955, and is now a memorial site due to the horrific disasters of the 1920's. but yes space does play a big factor when creating a model railway, thanks again for commenting. very interesting....best wishes Tony
@@TONYNORTHEASTERN Interesting to know that Tony. I'll look that one up. The issue (in my experience) that shafts cause isn't where the shaft sits but the subsidence to the land around it where the tunnels reach out to the seam. Many villages around Derbyshire have some very unusual land formations cause by the pit shafts below collapsing or the ground above them settling down. Suppose you could say the tunnels towards the dear of your layout have been closed and filled in so deemed safe to build over. The ones leading out towards the front are active but as many could be a few miles under ground they dont impede the railway running above them.
Great job Tony, you are starting to make those old models gel into a realistic grimy colliery scene, love the mesh handrails on top of the pit head Cheers Steve
Cheer's Paul. its been on the back burner for awhile now. the pit would just finish that section of the layout nicely . another tick in the box....cheer's buddy Tony
High Geoff, i totally agree with your suggestion. the office will be placed there. i will get the builders on to it straight away. well there's a long way to go before its completed. thanks again Tony
Hi Peter. in south shields where I came from originally there were 3 pits in the space of a couple of miles. I was surrounded if you like by railways when I was growing up....mainly coal trains. so yes your comment is very true...best wishes Tony
Thank you Dave. at last im getting on with it. all these bits and pieces have been sitting around for ages. so it will be interesting to see how it turns out, because at present even i don't know what its going to look like............thanks again Tony
Hi Dave, i am looking forward to seeing it finished to. may be this weekend i will do some more. weather permitting. rainy days are modeling days.....best wishes Tony
Hi John. i will have to some research on a fan house, as i have built a pit before. thanks for the tip thought very much appreciated. many thanks Tony..
Hi Tony Loving your idea. For me it was not over the top I actually like version one. But that only my opinion I have a question Have painted the wheels on your locos? Keep safe arp
Hi ADi, the wheels on the loco's have not yet been painted yet as I have been distracted with building the colliery. so that is taking all my time up at the moment when im not in the garden.. enjoying the sunshine and a ice cold beer. take care buddy ……...Tony
Good job Tony in such a tight space well done
I think i used up every millimetre in this build. thanks again for commenting..Tony
I always wanted a coal mine on my layout but thought I hadn't got the room for one. You've shown me yes I have; thanks Tony
Hi John. space can be an obstacle. but you dont need a big pit. most pits were only small to start with....all the best Tony

So far, so good Tony. I think the coal office might be better placed nearer to the bridge where the entrance to the yard is. Just my thoughts.
Geoff
High Geoff, i totally agree with your suggestion. the office will be placed there. i will get the builders on to it straight away. well there's a long way to go before its completed. thanks again Tony
