    Holy Moly - what a great band. Of course, Dave's band will always be very good, but this concert is just incredibly fine. Every one of those five guys is such an outstanding musician, and I'm having fun here dancing to the music!

    They are magicians, illusionists, balancers of musical notes. Holland is a wonderful composer, and the group is unbeatable.

    Billy Kilson is one of a kind... on his solos he plays some of the craziest polyrhythmic stuff I've heard! love it

    Dave Holland has long since led the greatest Modern Acoustic Jazz ensemble of current times, IMHO. Insane interaction,compositions, arrangements, awesome instrumentalists full of personality, each his own man.

      egyptianminor Right : Mr. Holland has paid almost every kind of due imaginable for a Modern Jazz Musician The king of outside as well as a beautiful inside player accompanist . Always displaying impeccable intonation and that beautiful dark tone untouchable technique man what else is there... oh wait ! he is now a supremely compelling conception vessel bringing together unexpected provocative combinations of musicians with his ever brilliant compositions, damn ! what can one say ?

      same. And what's more if that his writing is every bit as good as his technique
      I presume everyone here has heard his solo bass lp

    • @egyptianminor
      @egyptianminor 9 лет назад +1

      Agree. Esperanza Spalding has observed that Dave's writing sounds like an integral expression/outgrowth of his playing style and I can hear that too.

    Chris Potter's solo on Billy Kilson's 'Billowns of Rhythm' is one of the best I've ever heard him play.

      Potter has so many great solos that it's hard to tell which one is the best, honestly. He's one of my favourite modern saxophone players - great on his own (like on Ultrahang) and even greater with Holland (like, every album they recorded together).

    This guys are so coupled! the music floating in a independent manner betwee rhythm, winds and armony,. sometimes they go everyone by your way and suddenly they find playing like a orgasmic encuentro, is funny, divertido separated and union again y el extasis...great.

    I seen this band 3 times and twice with Nate Smith on drums. He is also amazing like Billy Kilson and Marvin "Smitty" Smith. A mix of most best players,Max Roach, Elvin Jones,Tony Williams and Billy Cobham etc,etc,etc. Name a great Jazz or Jazz Fusion player... These dudes studied them. Or buy osmosis¿. Just my opinion! I play and I found it extremely helpful to go backwards and learn about the players that are my hero's hero's! Billy Cobham's favorites were pretty much EVERYONE Max, Blakey, Elvin, Philly Joe and Jo Jones. Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich,Tony Williams. Bill Bruford,Max Roach. Joe Morello taught by George Lawrence Stone author of STICK CONTROL. LISTENING TO Kenny Clark,Art Taylor Joe Chambers and of course Tony Williams entire career is the History of Modern Jazz coming of age from post bop to The Avant-garde and Fusion.
    This band also with Nate Smith on drums,is so incredibly amazing to hear never mind being there. I seen him at the Hatshell in Boston free jazz concert. One of the best concerts I've ever seen... Period of any music style. I'm a prog Rock fan and player too but,Jazz is and always will be my favorite to listen to and play. 30 years of playing and all I can say is I'm pretty good! I will always compare myself to great players like these to always and I mean ALWAYS keep me humble and something to still work for. Being able to play fast single stroke rolls around the kit is always fun and rewarding to play if not over done then you sound lost. MUSICALITY is everything. I was in love with all the "wrong" thing's. Well, not really Wrong just not what's needed to get a gig! I just cared about being fast and learning to play the rudiments fast. I loved technique and solo's. Took me WAY too long to get into music for music sake. The MUSICALITY of Rythm just made complete sense to me. If I had pulled my head out of my Ass 25 yrs ago would probably not say I'm fantastic but I probably would be. But it wasn't for nothing. I'm musical because of my technique. Technique, chops, rudiments are all means to an end. Not an end in itself. The purpose is to communicate music either improvised or written out. Long live this beautiful dieing art form. When and if it dies here in the U.S. I am going to live in Europe where they give a shit about the only American Art form in existence... JAZZ!!! Americans open your ears and your hearts.... This music if you could ever hear the beauty in a group of musicians speaking to one another saying what they feel in the context of the tune! It's DEMOCRACY at work. You don't like Jazz! I jokenly say you don't like democracy. Jazz is Freedom and I don't just mean 'FREE JAZZ' Wich Dave Holland is influenced by and dabbles in the Avant-gard just a bit lol. I talk WAY TOO MUCH😵

    ...Para mi, son la mejor banda de Jazz. Y soy melómano más de 26 años, desde los 13 años, ahora tengo 39 años. Escuchaba 5 horas diarias de música y a veces días enteros de todos los estilos musicales.
