It's a fair summer night. I'm out doing my run. I rest in the end of it in a field of grass looking upon the stars. I've been in an 8 month journey back from a major depression. The wind is fresh on my face. The grass is prickly on my knees. This music is playing and I'm crying in gratitude that I've survived it and that I'm still here, listening to this beautiful music on this night. Thank you mister Reich! 🙏🎶❤
I too deal with ups and downs... so many people here have said it already, but I have to chime in too, so much warmth and joy in this music. Feeling grateful for the mere fact of music...
Mine too. Theres some stiff competition but this just edges it. Off to see electric counterpoint and some other works on Saturday, my first live reich experience , can’t wait.

I listen to this almost every morning doing yoga. Reich’s rhythmic structures make it easier, for me, to focus on the breath. And I find this piece indescribably joyful which adds to the yogic experience. A wonderful combination.
There is a TINY bit of the score on the album box. I had mallet instruments and an organ so I had some fun putting the first few seconds of this together on a multi-track. Listening to this on vinyl will make you cry, it's so beautiful. The feeling is straight up euphoric.
The wall of harmonic sound generated by the voices and organ drone over the shimmering waves of mallets augmenting and stretching the perception of time. The counterpoint is dense and rewards the listener with sudden lateral tonal shifts. Mathematical, ecstatic and sublime.
So many people here have said it already, but I have to chime in too; so much warmth and joy in this music. Feeling grateful for the mere fact of music... and Hallelujah for discovering new (to me) music that moves me like it did when I was a child. Time to Wiki Steve Reich. I need to know more about him.
Not enough is said about Reich's gifts as a melodist. His melodies don't develop in the way of Mozart but even so he manages to do a suprising amount with limited material.
PS I almost forgot to mention the night I met him after he played at UCSB. I had played him on my radio show many times. I told him that I really wanted to dance to that nights live performance. He said "I wouldn't have stopped you. "
Not one of my favorites. Glad Steve's music is available for people to hear. It does sound like he was in a happy mood. Most of his stuff has a lot of dissonance. If machines become self aware, what kind of music will they make or not care to try?

It's soul affirming to read this. Pure joy and gratitude. Thank you
Going through it atm.. It refreshes me from the self-defeating thoughts. I hope you're well.

Yes, it definitely is a celebration in sound. If there is any suggestion of movement it would have to be UP.
My favourite Reich composition, absolutely delightful, heavenly

Only 2 years for me and I hope many more to come. Interesting how Peter Gabriel found inspiration for his wonderful song San Jacinto
This is incredible music that gets under your skin, that touches your innermost being.
I bought this from a record stall in Oxford market in the 70s and played it endlessly along with Six Pianos.

Wtf are you talking about, you sound like a wine reviewer spouting this nonsense.
I've heard people talk about melting into a piece of music. I now understand what they mean.
one of his finest compositions for me. I hope it will always accompany me for the rest of my life.
i love your username so undescribably much
Aphex Twin fans, you two? Peace.

My favourite Reich piece
Thank you Steve Reich for this amazing masterpiece! 🙏❤️
Music from the heaven.
Nowadays, it feels like it's a rare pleasure to be able to call a work of art both stunningly original and successful. Chapeau!
Certainly a masterpiece. A special beauty all its own.
Energía, éxtasis, felicidad
Heavenly, as sent from above.
This piece inspired Chris Brayden in his composing of the Astrologer’s theme in Quest for Glory II (1990).

What a beauty performance, lovely version of a lovely piece, thanks I'm live to hear this pearl
This reminds me of one or two pieces of "The Planets." 😊
Content de ne pas être le seul acheteur de ce triple album, en 1975 à Châtellerault. Un exploit.
Acheté à Rennes, encore lycéen, quelques années après avoir manqué son concert à la "Maison de la Culture" de Rennes en 1971 !
Oui!

It seems, i am Steve Reich fan!

This definitely inspired the zelda devs.

The best recording of this fantastic piece. But did there really need to be three chord changes? Peace.
Im 100% sure this was sampled for a Plaid track, but I just cant remember which one 🤔

I think it’s minimalist? Just discovered it myself lol

Subgenre of modern classical music called "minimalism".

I hate this, it’s the same thing over and over, not building to anything and then it changes, but it just repeats over and over!
