    i heard the term "food insecurity"last week to describe those of us who dont have enough $to buy food ,lifes basic need. Ramen noodles,peanut butter ,and pot pies are considered meals in my home. i am a disabled widow of a veteran and receive no survivors benefits from VA. i was only receiving $16a month on food stamps then after our little so called "increase"at the beginning of the year i wasnt eligible for that anymore. the need is REAL for so many of our disabled and elderly. its sad that i worked 2&3jobs at a time when i was able bodied and now i have to struggle to buy food and medications. thanks for sharing this info.

At the office the worker said yes I could get 50.00 a month, but then they said I had been denied because I received too much SSI. I am a homeowner so I only claim a standard amount that all people get for SDG&E then my home insurance and yearly taxes. But she said only those item are allowed to be claimed. And you can't even afford the healthy stuf apples are almost 6 bucks to a carton of fat cakes that are processed packaged and sold for under 2 bucks.. If you can and are able help yourself and get a part time job.. Its the only thing that can give you xtra money to afford even the necessities.. I remembered thinking paper towels are a luxury item.. I'm not saying this to offend. I'm just trying to put this out there cause nobody deserves better than you do.. Find a job that is easiest for you.. Stuffing envelopes, cleaning an office.. Anything is better than crying bc that electric bill got higher bc that power company did an estimate.. Hated that.. I hope it gets better for you, life is not fair but you have to do what you have to do in order to eat.. And I hate hearing the money you worked for is not getting paid back to you.. I have a suggestion, and that is that you Produce videos about upcoming News regarding Public Policy of The SNAP program and empowering your subscribers to take action.
    For example I watched the Congressional hearing over the ABOD when I found out Without any prior notice that Trump had revoked my state’s exception to the policy which would cause me to lose my benefits.
    It would be great to be able to create public conversations about these policies to hold these lawmakers accountable. Because often times these attacks on social programs tend to be ignored by the mainstream media.

    Here in California they dont ask for light bills, gas bill, or phone bill anymore. All they ask for is if you pay rent and how much you and who's in your house hold. Forfood Stamps you don't get the cost of living at all. Meat cost so much just like everything else. It takes about $500.00 a month justto eat 3 meals a day with basic meat no snacks or sweets at all.

    • @Cdray24
      @Cdray24 5 лет назад +5

      Just because they are not asking for it does not mean they will not deduct it if you bring in your proofs. They are not trying to help anyone increase their amounts but if you go to the fda snap site you will see that LEGALLY all states have a deduction for the cost of you light/gas and phone bill. some give an automatic amount but if yours is higher then you can ask for your actual bills to be deducted. Ask your worker what your deduction for heating/cooling, electric, gas, phone etc is. If no amount is given make sure you give her amounts or proofs.

      Kim Dotson, not everyone is eligible for food stamps. If you make too much money then you will be denied. THe only way that it doesn't matter is if you are disabled or elderly then they look past the income and use deductions to see if you qualify. You can still make too much money as a disabled person on SSD or on elderly person working so it is not automatic. It is however much more liberal deductions for the elderly and disabled to get the income below guidelines to qualify.

    • @Cdray24
      @Cdray24 5 лет назад +1

      Yes, apply for the snap benefits for those children, THe state will automatically cancel it to the parents as it is to go to the person who is raising the child. Tell them the children live with you. The parents should be grateful you are raising them, they are not entitled to that money. Plus you can add them to your SSDI check and you will get another check for the children. It doesn't matter if you have custody or not, you have physical custody of them. You should then apply for custody of the children at court to make this legal since they are taking advantage of you. I had this done to me until I woke up. I was caring for 4 of my sisters children on my own income while she kept all the benefits. What a shame, she was a drug addict and NEVER got her kids back. I had to smarten up or we would not have enough to eat.

    Wooo-weee, the caption is a white woman and a white guy, shocked and happy at the same time that it's not some black woman, because a lot of times when we see these food stamps captions, they always showing black women.

      Hi Marianne. I'm sorry about the image. It's a struggle to find affordable stock photography that is also intriguing and click-worthy. At the time, this seemed like the best choice. I'll keep that feedback in mind as I choose future images, though. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! :)

      That's a complicated answer. Many households that receive food stamps are employed but still can't make ends meet. Others are disabled and can't work. Employment isn't a complete solution, unfortunately.

      excuse me but I AM employed, full time, but still need food stamps. I make more than minimum wage, but not enough to pay car note, house note, electricity, water, car insurance, healthcare and still afford food with my salary alone. MANY people receiving public assistance work full time, but still need help.
