A lot of people getting weirdly angry about the polarisation diagram.
Polarisation is way more complicated than the simple concept we learn about at A-level, not least because light consists of two perpendicularly-oscillating waves (E & M) - yet we only draw one.
The reason that this diagram is correct is because, put simply, the electrons need to be able to oscillate in order to absorb photons. If absorbing a vertical wave, they cannot do so if in a horizontal line.
The real crux is when it comes to antennas: if you have a vertical antenna emitting radio/microwaves, the receiver must also be the same orientation to absorb them. And the most convenient model states that therefore the waves are vertically polarised.
At the end of the day, you'll never be asked which one goes through which etc - all we care about is knowing what happens when a filter is rotated 90 degrees, regardless of whether intensity starts at a max or min.
Who else is panicking about this Friday... Not me... At ALL...
yup
Yep
Samee haha
everyone get the healthy daily hour of crying in
yep def not
I wish the best of luck to everyone for the exam on Friday.
good luck for you too!! ❤️
And to you too
Just started my revision now

Wahali we're finished
😂😂
Its so over 😭🙏🏾
I’ll come back here in 5 years and see how much this moment actually matters
its defo not the literal day of the exam and im last min cramming, couldnt be me
brotha it’s 1am
Update: it went aight
soooo we are all here rn.... good luck (but not really, please take one for the team and lower the grade boundaries)
real bro
nah bro u got this man
Thanks bro, you always there to save me before an exams.
Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much. Love all the effort you put into your videos.
guys im ngl im going to significantly lower the grade boundaries for you
The only thing I’m banking on is the grade boundaries being low. Only reason I’m not crying myself to sleep tonight
no bro we got this🙏
@@thealol3709 What’s all this “we” business bro 😂 No but fr the content isn’t that hard its just that the exam questions are horror
Thank you I need 3A*s for Manchester cs it’ll be great if you can do god’s work for me
@@heeseunglee880 it's okay I've got an unconditional I'll take one for team🙏🙏
Honestly thank you SO much. The exam went better than I thought it would, although did run out of time for some multi choice at the end (because they were all so damn long, even my ET couldn't take it). I learnt a lot from this video and I used what I learnt in that exam, and I only watched up to the first half lol. Your videos help so much, and I like how interactive you are with the comments. I'm pretty confident about P1. Thanks.
Thanks alot man, your gonna help me tonnes on Friday, you helped me through so many mocks. Absolute Legend!
Tomorrow is gonna be lightwork 😴🛌
(academic comeback isn't happening)
its over

really good video, been watching this and its actually taught me some stuff i didnt know before, super short as well
New stuff 2:30 mins before the exam 😭 aren’t we all
@@minecraftkid7219Bro im taking notes
I didn’t get the polarisation part at 34:00 if the filter has vertical lines then doesn’t that mean it would absorb the horizontal waves?
Why does it absorb the vertical waves and let the horizontal ones through?
It's not a physical thing - it's way more complex than this model. The only thing we need to know for A-level is what rotating 90 degrees does.
@@ScienceShorts Thanks for responding! But don’t waves that are vertical pass through the polarising filter if the polarising filter has vertical lines? I don’t get how the vertical lines in the filter transmit horizontal waves but they don’t transmit vertical waves.

doing paper1 as a mock today this and the other video help so much
i love how concise and to the point this is
Thank you so much! BTW would there be a level chemistry video like this?
think that fact that im here half an hour before my exam tells you all you need to know
It’s over 😭🙏
thanks man!!
AS mock tomorrow not looking good. Why did I choose physics if I want to be a dentist 😭😭😭😭
I got my mock tomorrow too but I want to study film 😫😫 (apparently doing physics would make me stand out)
Thank u science forts
thanks for the help
34:09 would it not be the opposite so the horizontal waves gets stopped here ?
Pinned comment.
thank you dawg
59:40 i just wanted to ask is the centripetal force not just mg sin theta because thats the force going towards centre also i used this method in 2020 past paper question 4.5 and it was right
good luck today guys.
at 34:18 if the filter lines are vertical surely all waves oscillating vertically go through as they are parallel to the lines and the waves oscillating horizontally get absorbed as they are oscillate perpendicular to the filter lines

whats modal dispersion? is it the same as multipath dispersion
Definition: Modal dispersion occurs in multimode optical fibers when different modes (paths) of light travel at different speeds. Each mode corresponds to a different angle of incidence and therefore a different path length within the fiber.
• Cause: Because different modes take different paths and therefore have different travel times, a pulse of light can spread out in time as it travels down the fiber. This can cause overlapping of pulses, which leads to signal distortion and limits the bandwidth and data transmission rate of the fiber.
• Effect: Modal dispersion causes pulse broadening, which affects the clarity and integrity of the transmitted signal, especially over long distances.
Awesome!
Will there be a Paper 2 video like this?
Already up
we bouta cookkkk 😈😈😈😈
Is the stopping potential caused by an opposing electric field ? If so, would we be marked down for saying this in a question about how the stopping potential is caused considering electric fields is not a paper 1 topic?
You wouldn't get marked down for it, but it's not worth putting that.
Hi there
from your paper series, could you make a compliation of questions for each subtopic, e.g from 2016-2019 as paper videos, make a video of all questions related to mechanics or a video related to waves, as this will be good exam practice night before the exam
thank you
I did. They didn't get watched
no distance velocity acceleration time graphs?
Assumed knowledge from GCSE. Doesn't really come up as its own thing in A-level exams.
it's so over
comeback of a century
at 3:32 how can a k meson decay into 2 other mesons? wouldn't that be doubling the quark number
Because mass is not conserved in these interactions!
@@ScienceShortshow isnt mass conserved? like energy is converted to mass or?
@@krypton1142 yeah, mass-energy is always conserved, not mass by itself
Good luck everyone
actual lifesaver
13:19 I'm a bit confused because I thought the cathode was the +ve one and the anode was -ve. is that diagram correct or are the labels the wrong way around?? maybe I'm being stupid but if that diagram is correct then someone pls explain why
Maybe you're thinking of cations and anions
@@ScienceShorts i looked it up earlier and it told me the anode was negative. I'm looking it up now and apparently it depends on context so now I'm confused lol. i hope i don't need to know that for the exam
If you googled it, the top result that I got from washington.edu is literally incorrect, weirdly. Er, Wikipedia seems to be wrong too, or at least worded horrifically.
@@ScienceShorts Oh wow, that's not good. I'm not sure where the first result was from, but thanks for letting me know!
26:40 is this for paper 1 and 2?
I was wondering this as well. Can’t find it in Paper 1 notes.
I swear it’s paper 2
It's an A2 concept that crops up in magnetic fields, but is often used in normal resistor questions, which iirc can crop up in paper 1. I could be wrong.
literally doing physics exam in 30 mins and watching this
I was just running through the old version yesterday and saw it’s removed, what’s new?
Also massive thanks, so handy
Upthrust & Stokes law removed - not needed for AQA
eh, i got time
yeah its so over 🙏
you saved my life MrScienceShorts 🙏🙏🙏

23:26 would you ever get a question where you don't know either voltage and only one resistance?
If you had a current then yes, but otherwise it wouldn't be possible
53:51 what are the conditions?
No net force, no net moment
Will you make one for edexcel papers?
Done

cuz the green line is mg cos theta?
