  • The 1997 Quiksilver Pro roared to life like the tiger that supposedly lived in the jungle behind the event site. 8-10 foot Speedies brought out some of the best tube riding surfing had ever seen. Nobody actually saw that tiger, and almost nobody saw this contest, at least not until the movie was released on VHS months later. There were 14 ten-point rides that day. Luke Egan took the victory riding a board shaped by his father Sam.

During my only trip to Grajagan in May 1990 I saw some VERY big cat paw prints in the sand on the beach out toward Kong's. I have little doubt it was a tiger. Got some of the waves of my life too!

Not gonna lie, the reason I don't rate the current Woke Surf League is it's penchant to run events that are so far from this core formula, that is the "Dream Tour".
Good luck with the new soyboi fanboi event schedule & the new woke promotional agenda. Our sport was once the sport of King's. Mikasi, G-Land Pro 1997.
