  • Following on from the video of Little Warley church, here is a short video about my personal favourite Essex church. St Mary is in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches. You can see all of my photography Essex church exploits at www.essexchurches.info.

Thank you. The church is beautiful in its proportions and with all essential parts intact. Lovely to see this. Thank you for sharing.

Superb videos. Very well produced. Thank you for the experience of visiting Essex churches from (in my case) a long way away!

I've been there countless times and tripped on magic mushrooms there a few times. It's a very atmospheric place, but if you're looking for ghosts I think you will be dissappointed. They used to have alpacas in the field behind the church but I think whoever was farming them got rid of them.
Unfortunately the enclosure with the dead oak trees seems to be degrading as the oaks rott away. I wonder whether it was just a very dry year or series of years that killed those oaks or if the farmer did something to the trees to kill them.
Anyone who goes there should make themselves at home there but have great respect for the building and all the work and money that has gone to making sure it remains. It's a great place.
There is a public footpath somewhere past the dead oak trees and past the remaining moat that takes you all the way to St Peter-on-the-Wall, Bradwell-on-Sea. I've walked a good portion of that footpath.
