Actually this rule was changed so if you redirect to the command zone as long as it hasn’t changed zones since being put there it will come back then the card is removed
@@theelucidator3481No, that was the old rule instead. Old rule: Commander that would die, exiled, put into hand or put into library the owner can put it into command zone instead. New rule changes the die and exile part: Commander that would be put into hand or put into library the owner can put it into command zone instead. CR903.9b If commander is in graveyard or exile and is pit there seince the last SBA check, you can move it to command zone. CR903.9a With the old rule Grasp will send it straight to CZ, so when the duration ends it will return the commander back (because it still in the zone Grasp send it to). However with the new rule after Grasp will exile the commader first and you put it back to CZ afterward, thus it won't be returned to the battlefield because it already changed zone (exile -> CZ).
@cidator3481Incorrect, it used to be like that when Commanders dying/getting exiled applied a replacement effect. With the rules change a couple of years ago, it's now a state based action (for dying and getting exiled specifically). Grasp of Fate doesn't "track" the Commander now, Michele is correct. For reference: CR 610.3, 400.7, 903.9a & 903.9b
Damn master Niv, it seems I've failed you in so many ways possible and deemed impossible. I knew you was strong but I didn't know you were him this wholoe time
