That's just Con's voice. It seems to be like Marmite and people are either in the 'I love his voice' camp or 'I hate his voice' camp (the former, in my case). He's also got a beautiful singing voice (he was in Blood Brothers both in the West End and on Broadway) but his voice doesn't have that strong huskyness when he sings (Google him singing Dancing Through The Dark for a treat of hearing him singing and playing the piano).
I'm so surprised that whoever wrote the next season forgot what he did to Edward in the first season. He is the reason Edward because a mess, he sold them out, berated him a lot and forced him to continue living as blackbeard when he didn't want to anymore. He is the issue.
