Amazing. Thank you very much. I had it on a regular Para 3, fixed it with your method.

I read on the forums monthly people asking about the “soft” detent on some Spyderco, Especially Taichung models! Glad the video was able to help and thanks for watching

Super helpful tip that will make the otherwise awesome Caribbean flawless in my estimation.
    Thanks for the upload.

Hope it works for you! The Carribbean is a work of art and an overlooked knife in Spydercos lineup. While I like the color of the scales, I think they cause a lot of buyers to pass! Thank you for watching

@@knifevideochannel4657 Yeah, I agree. It's an absolutely fantastic knife and I like the scales too.
With detailed attention like the g10 being molded to fit into the liner cutouts for a clean passthrough, the detent being weak is a bizarre thing.

@@PoetFisherman I don't understand the light detent on most of the higher end Taichung Spydercos. I've heard reports the $500 Paysan detent is one of the worst!

    • @PoetFisherman
      @PoetFisherman 5 лет назад +1

@@knifevideochannel4657 Damn, that's crazy. It's a little weird at any price point to not get something like the detent right.
At some point the weakness of a detent crosses the line between preference and a safety concern. To my mind, no knife in the hundred plus dollar range should have a detent even close to that line.

@@PoetFisherman As much as I admire Spyderco for their quality and innovation, I must say I'm really disappointed with the detent issues. This isn't a new problem with Taichungs inability to produce a solid detent. Two to three years now on certain models, If not longer. I may end up doing this mod on my Smock too!

I learned about it when I used to browse the Spyderco Forums years back, Bought the Bits off Amazon and it worked great. I fly giant scales RC Gas powered Aerobatic airplanes, So I have a ton of driver handles.

Hey, thanks for doing this one. Great job!
    😀
This will help many, in the community.
I don't remember if you mentioned this or not, in the video? But I always tell people, that if it's close to being right. Try a little more lock-bar pressure first. But, with a lot of knives. That's not enough. I had to drill my Sliverax, not that long ago. It was pathetic, before the Mod.

Thanks for the Tripod Steve, Helped a ton making this video.
I don't understand how the Taichung plant keeps producing quality knives like the Sliverax, Mantra 3, Amalgam, Smock, etc with the same weak detent issue! Have you seen the detent on the Paysan? Wow, Some just fall out upon turning the blade upside down. Unacceptable!
Thanks for reminding me on bending the lock bar, I forgot to mention it in the video. I'll add it to the description.

On the compression locks out of Golden you can loosen the tension on the lock bar, By bending it back a bit. If your not sure you can also send to Spyderco service. Thanks for watching

I fly large Gas powered remote control planes and have a lot of hand tools to build/work on them. Pretty sure I used the handle of a Scorpion ball driver for that diamond bit! Thank you for this very informative video. Quick question. I didn't see in your description but what hand drill tool were you using with the bit and where can I purchase it? It looks like it actually has chuck holes to tighten the bits. I have only found pin vice hand drills that finger tighten the bits.

I fly giant scale (42% up to 200cc) gas RC airplanes and have a wide range of quality tools I've bought over the years. It's a hex driver that I took the bit out and the handle accepted the diamond bit perfectly (has lockdown screw).
BTW..I don't remember how long ago this video was made. I've used it on Smock, Gayle Bradley 2, Amalgam, And other Taichung folders with good success. Thanks for watching

@@kurtstreyffeler405 scorpion products 1.5 mm hex driver. It has a hex bit in the handle that loosens the shaft to allow removal and replacement if broken . I took out the bit and the shaft of the diamond bit fit in perfectly.
