As a teacher for 25 years, I'd like to bid the fondest of farewells to the head of my profession, and to thank the wonderful Dennis for this beautiful tribute.
I hadn't seen this before. Thank you for uploading it Susie. I was a fan of Benn, a hugely principled man who spoke his true beliefs always, was intelligent, incredibly hard-working and should have been Labour leader. I also like Skinner for similar reasons; an MP for four decades and loved by his constituents because he's honest and works hard for them. So few MPs like them are left now and that's a real pity. I don't vote Labour myself, in fact I'm a Tory; but I recognise honest, principled people and I recognise that our parliament is the worse off for the passing of Tony Benn and his kind. Skinner does give a wonderful tribute to him; he clearly lost a good friend.
The virtually empty House here shows just how far modern British politics have moved away from the Socialist movement. I endorse all the comments below about Dennis Skinner's wonderful and moving tribute to Tony Benn.
If Benn had won the contest for leadership of the Labour Party the working class people would still have a LABOUR party. What we have is a total self centred shower with the difference between the major parties being less than the thickness of a strand of hair!
I agree with a the comments here. The working people of this country have lost a true champion. It was my privilige to hear Tony Benn at the Tolpuddle festival for many years. It won't be the same without him, as he was part of the furniture. Fine words from the beast. TD

You do not have to agree with Tony Benn's politics to admire, respect and like this truly great politician, speaker, writer, character and true gentleman. We have lost a genuine treasure. Rest in peace, Mr Benn. You will be very sadly missed.

this man has inspired me throughout my young life - if any one needed to understand why some people want to improve the world for everyone and will fight for ever against those who treat fellow humans like dirt. Well Dennis, Tony Benn and Jeremy Corbyn led and are leading that fight. Let's all get behind them and treat those who despise us, with understanding for their inadequacies and paucity of their lives:. They have nothing to be proud of ever!

I remember those times.The Brits would always have each others back.The working class had to because they where hated by the establishement.The miners where betrayed by the powerworkers who should have backed them up.Look where we are now zero hrs contracts no workers rights we have come a long way going backwards.
