My absolute favourite player was Tim Rodber. Never took a step back and watching him take on half the Boks pack makes my heart swell with pride.

Yeah mate, he smashed them! I remember him being a hard, hard nut. He was a captain in the army as well, so I guess it makes him a trained killer too.
Didn’t like him when he played against Wales but always respected him, probably due to having a father in the military myself.

@@Rebelass74 So he smashed a whole Bok pack ? You should have had him recalled for the 2019 WC final, 'cos the "smashing" was pretty one-sided on that occasion

@@henniebester9437 Why cant you just admit that in this case it was an example of trying to bully the wrong guy.The Boks had been cheapshotting all game and when Rodber gave it back they didnt really want to know.

Paul hull played really well on this tour and in the test matches but then seemed to disappear after it

Rodber should have been knighted for his efforts. Saffas love dishing it out in the loose but never really stand big toe to toe.

I recall that the ref had been asked to do his job, by Tim. He refused, so Tim deposed him. SA provinces only have one objective - to injure Lions first team players.

Interesting, especially considering that the Lions weren't in South Africa at the time.

That's true. There was ugliness to Apartheid-era South African rugby that has been thankfully binned to the past.@@henniebester9437

Rodber took two punches to the face, before his retaliation,; which anyway, was simply giving some back.

I know he was a captain in the army and my dad was a Major in the Gurkhas. We use to watch him play and respected him hugely but not when he played against Wales. We love Wales because I grew up in Brecon, that’s where my father was posted. We are adopted Welsh family 😂

Typical Saffer tactics - underhand and brutish - no style - playing tough is one thing , but their idea was to simple beat up the opposition

Interesting. So how do you fit phenomena like Kolbe's try in the WC final in Yokohama, or Arendse's at Twickers in November 2022 in this universe of yours ? Do you just block it out or do you creatively re-calibrate your definition of "style" ?
