ActionSA unapologetic about subjecting councillors to polygraph tests: Mashaba

- ActionSA's national chair Michael Beaumont says an investigation by Action4SA shows that an ANC-aligned councillor offered a R2 million bribe to an ActionSA councillor, to vote for the former Tshwane Mayor Murunwa Makwarela who was in office for one week before he resigned last Friday. The party says it's going to investigate all those councillors who claimed to vote on conscience and vote with the ANC, and once the party gets proof, they will be dismissed. Party founder and leader Herman Mashaba says they are not apologetic. The party has fired one of its councillors, Nkele Molapo, and also parted ways with its Gauteng chairperson, Bongani Baloyi, all in one week. Voting for a R2mil bribe is not voting with your conscience.
Action SA is not against voting by conscience per se, but voting by the reason of conscience after having agreed to go party line. It vital to notice that he verbalised if any differs, let him or her say it publicly than backstabbing. Same as NDZ & Lindiwe in ANC. They were open before the voting that they won't go partyline. But to say you will go party line then do the opposite is a different story.
@@malast657 There is no free conscience in towing party line. The National Assembly vote on Phalaphala was an open ballot and NDZ and Lindiwe had an internal election (conference) to contest with the incumbent so they had to be seen to be walking the talk. If it had been a secret ballot like the JHB metro, no one had any pressure to declare anything. Fact of the matter in a party list system it’s difficult to openly speak outside the collective and keep your position. It’s hypocritical to suggest that others can when in your own party they can’t.
I support anyone who support's transparency. I just hope that, when someone asks Mr Mashaba what his real intensions align with the party's constitution and if he'll do it under polygraph, that he agrees. It would be such a shame if he doesn't

ActionSA's senate was aware of his dabbling with the ANC and offered him a higher position( national spokesperson) than provincial head, he declined because it was gonna move him far away from the bag. Under normal circumstances, People do not refuse higher, more influential positions, especially if they are young. He was caught out

For me, if someone voted on the basis of receiving money or his/her conscience, it is not a situation to turn the voting process VOID! We have seen some ANC MPs voting against their President and against the party decision in the National Assembly, and no one actually tried to investigate why they voted that way! It is a voting process whereby the councilors vote individually, so it is up to them to select whoever they want, UNLESS if the vote is COLLECTIVE.

Mashaba isn't an outright politician but he is prepared to account, may be that's what is necessary.
The fact that there is infighting in ActionSA shouldn't be the headline. How they deal with infiltrators is what should be noted. ActionSA is taking SA forward, attempting to paint them as also corrupt and no different from other party's is a stretch.
