My dear Dr. McDougall, you maybe will not even read this. But I have to tell you how much I appreciate you, everything you do for us. It's only because of you, that I can live a healthy and a happy life today. Five years ago I was diagnosed with arthritis and the whole year with no treatment was a hell on earth for me, the worst time of my life. After I have adopted the wfpb diet after reading your books I was able to get my life back in a matter of weaks. You have been such a big influence in my life without even knowing this. Thank you for helping me, you are my biggest hero 🙏

I have been following a high starch low fat (5-9% of total calorie intake) McDougall diet for 4-5 years and developed IBS-D this past fall for the first time. I followed the low FODMAP elimination diet as a wfpb vegan for 4-6 weeks and discovered which foods I cannot have: apples, cauliflower, onions and not a large amount of chickpeas.

I was diagnosed with IBS M quite a few years ago. Finally I paid for a stool sample & my microbiome is not balanced. I don’t do well with fruit more than 1 serving of fruit. If I do I feel ill. So I stick with potatoes & sweet potatoes, rice. I can’t even have oatmeal & I love oatmeal. I think healing the intestines with starch lifestyle takes time and worth it.

Hydration is not just water. It’s also electrolytes (magnesium, potassium, sodium). Plain water washes out your electrolytes and dehydrates you further.

I was diagnosed with spastic colon syndrome in my 20s. Wish I figured out the starch connection earlier, but today doing ok. I was given a pill to calm my intestines early on, but I don't think it's just one thing. It's complicated. For me; high fiber, high starch, and no probiotic or magnesium supplements.

He doesn't talk about unique triggers at all. Mine was red chili, along with a couple others. I just did a fast which relieved my symptoms and then paid attention to what was triggering. When I figured that out, most of my IBS (cramping and diarrhea) was gone. I cook with oil every day, and contrary to what he says I've never noticed it gave me constipation because I'm always using it. Some people say taking olive oil can actually help with constipation.

Healthy anxiety is when you predict something bad is going to happen to you and you were correct, it saved you from an issue. Think identifying a snake in the bushes. It's a beneficial evolutionary trait.
Unhealthy anxiety is when you predict something bad is going to happen to you and you were incorrect, nothing bad was going to happen.
The solution to anxiety is slowly taking your time and learning to predict the future more accurately. One can do this through a journal where you write down your predictions and see what ended up happening. This will give food for thought on why a prediction was wrong and what you can do better next time. Every time you do this anxiety will be reduced.
You can also take CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) or DBT (dialectical behavior therapy). Both are like courses that teach you how to remove anxiety. I think CBT's anti anxiety is 12 sessions, one session a week. It is not talk therapy. DBT gives you homework. It's like a class that teaches you everything you need to know far beyond what a single comment can say. Good luck with everything.

The people who tend to live past 100 look like him, as thin as a rail but hiding muscles behind it all. (If he's just thin without muscle he will not make it to 100.) The people who look not as thin tend to live a shorter amount of time.
From what I've seen in studies our body can only make so many stem cells. If your body is bigger, e.g. muscular, then you've got more cells to cycle and it will shorten your lifespan. However, not enough muscle and you get medical problems (e.g. type 2 diabetes), so it's a balancing act.
