What a fantastic piece of film. I was born and bred in Blackpool and it's sad to see the degradation of the town. We used to live on Station Road and unbelievable a tram used to go down it! Never knew that! I'm so pleased trams lasted in Blackpool.

A great film and good narration too. As an aside no-one will ever convince me that things are better today than they were then.

Great content and commentary. If only the original film could have been transferred to digital by todays frame by frame process perhaps even more quality of image may have been achieved. Still wonderful to see.

Very interesting film. The comment about passing Elmslie School is premature and follows the shot of Beechfield Avenue since Elmslie School was between Knowsley Avenue and Beechfield Avenue.

i always wanted to be a tram driver when u was a kid. And i still do now 55 yrs later, and at blackpool to fleetwood. It was great seeing the back of the town loop to the south terminus. 😊

    A great narration.
I went on the double deckers in the early 50s down Whitegate Drive to the Royal Oak for swimming lessons at the Lido.

i'm not absolutely sure but i think one of those marton standards exists in a museum in kennebunkport ,MA it seems to be a popular (exotic) choice of travel there

The tram network was quite extensive but you could see the problems with cars on the road and trams running down the middle. Impatient drivers trying to both undertake and overtake. It's a shame the main roads were not pedestrianised instead of letting cars access all areas. If only!

They did. It's effectively 300 yards of tramtrack. It cost almost £20m of council tax payers money 🙁

True, after having been destroyed in an arson attack in February 2009. Nothing has yet replaced it, or the ABC site.

I did not know about that arson attack. I only went in to it once and did not stay for very long. A bit seedy for me
There is a picture of US service men marching past it during WW2
and a goods steam train running down Blackpool Prom where the trams run.

@@PeteLindup There is a new hotel on the Yates's site. I think the ABC site is a car park now.
