As I said, she has committed unforgivable acts of evil, but it is still possible to feel a sense of sympathy and even empathy for how completely, utterly broken she is. This is best demonstrated in "City of Stone" ("Tell us the password!" "The password is....alone.") and in "Vows" (where even Demon's past self is stunned and disgusted by the bitterness infesting current Demon's soul").

Using this Evanescence song to illustrate Demona's state of mind was a very good choice.

Demona's story is very much a Greek tragedy, with the Weird Sisters playing the part of the chorus and Macbeth as the nemesis. She is both the architect and victim of her own destruction, where in her own pride and arrogance create the circumstances which then generate her sorrow, bitterness and hate.

Whoa great analogy! Exactly Demona created the circumstances for her tragedies and she was the primary cause but then again the Hunter who so mercilessly Hunted her down and whom she accidentally created was a boy who by I'll fate happened to be as fanatic as her!
She was like his father said "a rogue Gargoyle looking for food". If I had started a war against all cats because one scratched me, there would be no cat in my city! The same way he just fanatized himself with the idea for revenge.
Also even in the beginning Demona only wanted a utopia for her kind and yet her kind was destroyed and she was the only survivor and instead of utopia she got hell.
Indeed is the usual tragedy sceme: Ate who blinds you, Ybris when you think you are stronger and Nemesis when 'karma gets you'.

Demona has done terrible things, unforgivable things, but in the end her's is a story of tragedy and loss. One doesn't condone her, but you should empathise. Anybody who doesn't feel sympathy for her at the end of "City of Stone" has no heart.

I liked Goliath but I think he could have been more understanding to Demona, for 1,000 years she was completely alone, the only one of her kind being hunted by humans, humans who had destroyed her people and were harming the planet, did he really expect her to forgive them just because he was alive and wanted her to?

Exactly! And he was supposed to know her so such a dramatic change of personality should make him feel suspicious of what happened in the past. Maybe nothing would change since Demona was so full of hatred and bitterness that seemed unable to listen (she spent 1000 years like this after all. If anything old habits die hard) but makes me wonder what would happen if Goliath was more open to her and didn't judge her right away for what she did? I think his rejection (intentional or unintentional) was the final blow to Demona's tormenting life.

      Short answer: yes
      Long answer: it's Goliath
Longer answer: we're talking about the idiot who chose his 2ic _just_ for having the nearest level of baggage with his ex to his own, then kept switching between just throwing "Truh-dish-shun" at his bio-daughter and dangling the Acceptance that the human survivors of the castle had "raised her as their own" to fucking _crave!_ frankly, the only surprise here is if he's been waking up all the way since his first night in New York!
