    I remember a video you did a few months ago and I commented in the comments about breastfeeding when you are HIV positive. As a feeding specialist I typically teach HIV positive moms that breast milk creates a gastrointestinal layer in the baby's tummy, that layer helps the baby not to contract the virus (provided that all "protocols l" are observed by the mom to stay on track with her treatment) however when there is mixed feeding involved the formula or solids will compromise the gastrointestinal layer created by the continuous breastfeeding and will make the baby more susceptible to contracting the virus. Thank you for the video.

      What if the mum decides to pump only but still feeding her baby only with breast milk. Is it medically advised please?

      Hi Koketso, say the mother breastfeeds for 6 weeks and decides to give formula after due to work. Will baby still be fine if breastfeeding is totally discontinued from that point?

    • @koki_at_home
      @koki_at_home 3 года назад +1

      Unfortunately we typically recommend that you breastfeed for about 6 months exclusively as in ONLY breast milk. Because after that we recommend a commencement of solids ie;purity etc so that is also when I recommend you consider formula especially if you are planning to leave the little one in someone else's care.

      It is, provided that proper sterilization of the feeding utensils takes place.

      Thanks for the response. Still think there could be an allowance if baby will be on syrup and results are saying no HIV detected and 💯 adherence to treatment . I guess one has to to what's best for baby.

    This is so real. A friend of mine went through a situation where she had a baby but she hadn't disclosed to her family, and quite honestly had no intention to. She decided not to breastfeed the child. Coming from the hospital, she was staying with her mom.
    When I say her family harassed her for months wanting to know why she's not breastfeeding 😭. It was sad yhuu! And her mom was a nurse so she wouldn't let it go. It was so sad.

    Hi guys all that uSis nozi has said is very informative and I'm happy that she has actually came out and talked about this topic because I am working as a midwife in a maternity ward and we educate mothers of the importance of following the protocols when breastfeeding exactly as sis nozi is saying ,but the new guidelines that recently released says a mother can breastfeed up until to 2 years even provided the she takes her ARV's well as making sure she gives the baby the prophylaxis treatment daily as well ,and the baby will constantly be tested for HIV throughout breastfeeding period ,now if the mother decides that she is going to stop the baby from breastfeeding she must report to the Healthcare provider at the clinic doctor so that 6weeks after mother has stopped breastfeeding then the baby is tested again so to know the babies status.

    Yes sis Nozi, thank you so much for bringing up and clearing some controversial issues around HIV.💞💝 That mama's and aunts do, they never want to listen to the baby mama telling them about doctors instructions. They basically know it all. If you are breast feeding my other suggestion is that you remove the child from the breast if you are supposed to go back to work.

    Thanks for this video sisi. Very informative, well I'm not HIV positive but I've seen people who are but still breastfeed. I was so lost but now I do understand...
    In the issue of raising a child. I think one must do the right think, I'm turning 37 this year my baby is 1year 6Months. Me and my husband we raised him on the book we receive at the clinic. Exclusively I breastfed him for six months two weeks after turning six months we gave him Nestum. And we follow that and we never gave him water but only breast until six months. My Mom wanted to buy food for him, we stood our ground and said no, we will feed him when he's 6months. He's so healthy. He'll stop. Breastfeed when when he turns 2 this year. I follow exactly that book and its so helpful. I don't do the old way of people and iyasisebenzela. Zange wagula umntanam

    Enkosi Nosi. Read a post on FB saying there are 2020 and 2021 babies that were born HIV positive and believe me I was so irritated and saw those mothers as ignorant and selfish. So thank you for the information.

    • @shaz4709

      I'm trying to raise my child in a much more intentional and mindful way. A lot of the things I've chosen to do or not do ,have brought me a lot of comments like " but that's how you were raised" or you ate/ drank such and such as a baby,so just give the baby" and I found myself answering ," I'm not raising her to be me though" . Many examples that would turn this into an essay. But just trying to highlight your comment. Very important.

    Where i used to work we used to allow pregnant woman to bring their family members (accompaniment) to prevent early introduction of solids.
    Breastfeeding its safe when hiv positive despite of your viralload unless if your regime will change to second line.
    And prophylaxis depend on the situation, remember other parents can find out at birth that they're hiv positive.

    Why is it not advisable to mix formula and breastfeeding? What happens that makes the baby vulnerable to exposure to HIV in that instance ?

    • @fefechroniclesd6776
      @fefechroniclesd6776 3 года назад +3

      The simplest explanation I got is that When children are born, their stomachs Are fragile and can break easily. When mixing if using formula since it's dense, it can break and cut baby stomach and your milk will penetrate and put baby at risk. So they said I must choose one, breastfeed or formula not mix.

    You didn’t like that someone exposed you to HIV. Why take a chance with an innocent baby? A mother protects her child. If some breastfeeds while positive, she’s selfish.
