    I also loved the first half of What Kind of Mother and then that ending I was like wtf 😅 it wasn’t a twist I liked either haha that felt so random and it dropped my rating significantly 😭

      No because why Tom Cruise?!? 😭😭😭 I couldn’t handle it. It was a good book though!

    That's a shame about The Last One and Vampires of El Nore, they both sound so good! Strange when something gets advertised as horror and is mainly romance 😅

      I wasn’t too surprised because The Hacienda is the same way, but I was expecting more horror for sure. Still a good book, just a teeny bit mismarketed!

    "It was good...I'm just bitter."
    Love that! I'm the same way when I don't like an ending. I have to tell myself to consider the whole book before rating it!

      Hahahaha it’s hard!! I’m such an ending person, so I have to remind myself it’s about the whole journey. 😂

    yeah, I agree, I really enjoyed Rouge and All's Well more than Bunny. I really loved the discussions on society's beauty standards in Rouge! And the mother/daughter relationships that are impacted by it. Yeah, while I loved Vampires of El Norte, it's definitely more a historical romance book with a lil bit of horror. So glad you're enjoying SpyxFamily so much!!

    • @ErinMegan
      @ErinMegan  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes me too! The discussions in Rouge were so good! Vampires of El Norte was good, I just wanted that horror aspect to come alive more. Maybe her next one will? 😭

    Everything you said about The Last One is exactly how I felt. I am scared to read What Kind of Mother. I have heard such mixed reviews! I loved The Trap. Sorry the ending wasn't for you. I can see being mad about it but I think you are meant to be frustrated so it didn't bother me. I agree that Dixie from Theme Music was frustrating, but I still enjoyed the book, for the most part. Although it was very repetitive and the ending was frustrating. I hate the crazy trope too! Most people love it. I am considering bringing up Vampires of El Norte to my book club but I need to know first if it has any sex scenes in it???

    • @ErinMegan
      @ErinMegan  11 месяцев назад

      Did you ever read Ghost Eaters? I had a similar reading experience with What Kind of Mother to that, but the stories are obviously different.
      I don’t mind being frustrated with endings, but it was just kind of annoying to go through the whole book with no real resolution, plus I guessed a major twist which was annoying.
      Omg Dixie made me want to throw the book, she was so dumb. I wish the plot had been more unique. I feel like it’s such copy and paste storyline.
      Vampires of El Norte doesn’t have any smut. There is a sex scene, but it’s more implied than described!

    I just picked up The Trap from my local supermarket. It’s a hardback and was only £6.00 which I think is around 7 dollars. I’ve never paid so little for a new hardback. I love this video Erin x

    I had such a similar experience with Along the River... Loved Gone to see..., 5 stars for me. I am not really into extreme horror, but that one worked perfectly, I truly liked how the most shocking things were rooted in reality, it was horrifying, but felt so very real and believable, and I was invested in Lori as a character, even when we found out what she had done.
    But Along the River... felt like repetition, with characters that weren't as engaging. Edmund was fine in the first one, when he was more like an image, idol in Lori's head, but I did not have any interest in following his journey, really.
    I had hoped for more River Man-lore, that character is very unique, it's such a great concept, with the music and everything, but we got so little. Sigh. It was very disappointing. I gave it 3 stars, 2,5 for the story and a half star for the mood, I do think Triana creates a very unsettling and eerie ambiance, it felt like I was walking through the woods too, I could almost smell it.
    Let's hope you have some 5 star reads coming up, you deserve it!

    • @ErinMegan
      @ErinMegan  11 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed!! It was such a big departure from Gone to See the River Man, made me so sad. I also agreed about Edmund being more prevalent in the second one and it not really working. I also liked when it was more about Lori’s idolization of him, rather than him being there constantly and us having to follow him.
      I definitely got some 5 stars in October thankfully! 🖤

    Hi Erin, The Last One which is titled The Last Passenger in U.K. was a big disappointment to me. I was so looking forward to it but felt let down. I kept thinking something else was going to happen after the reveal but it didn’t. Please could I ask which is the other Will Dean book you read and enjoyed.

      Ugh so sorry you didn’t like it either! The other book by Will Dean I liked was The Last Thing to Burn!

    Great video. May try some of these books. The way u felt about Theme Music was how i felt about Penpal. I finally got it last week after a few yrs of hype. I had no idea it was self published from reddit. After i found out it made sense because it truly needed an editor. I DNF'd it. It was all over the place. It went from a little creepy and thrilling to a coming of age story i guess?? Parts repeated so i thought i was reading the same page over. The non-linear time lines we very poorly done so i had a hard time knowing what was going on. I went from interested to confused to infuriated. I gave it 2 stars only for the first few chapters.

      Aw I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy Penpal! I loved that one, but I’ve definitely heard some similar criticisms about it. It’s definitely hard for no sleep stories to become full novels, unfortunately.
