Back in the 1850s, some poor German immigrant who could not yet speak English was snatched up as "an escaped slave" and she lacked papers proving she was free, they took her down South and put her into a slave auction, stripped nude, all the indignities. In order that some wealthy slave owner might desire an 'octoroon' like her to work as a maid in his plantation mansion during the day and "work" at night as well. Somehow or another, she got rescued. As the country got closer and closer to the year 1860, it became tougher to rescue anyone from slavery in the South due to the Dred Scott decision, which in my view, pushed our country much closer to civil war before the last straw, the surprise victory of Abraham Lincoln.
I never knew.. I just thought I was an alien. Not black enough...not white enough.. im too pale, i tan too much.. my hair too good ... my hair too curly...my body shape not enough my body shape too much... I had given up... im me... I live my life.. I am just NERMAL.. never in everyone's standards but enough in one they never accepted.
At 00:36 we get a glimpse of the 'octoroon', a young blonde woman. Whites were nervous about octoroons in the Pre-Civil War South. Octoroons could almost always pass for full white. Many were indeed green-eyed blondes.
