This whole storyline about Roman is incredibly dumb but at this point I think it's because they don't know what to do with him after his dethroning as the champion. Obviously they want to keep him away from the title topic because he held the belt for three years straight but he isn't the right person to be written in meaningless storylines so they try to create a situation where he is atleast near the current champion at times but has, seemingly, a reason to not chase the title. It just doesn't work because it's unbelieveable.
