I have to disagree with Go Tobann. Similarly to Doomsday blue, it at least had a staging concept in the Nf and I feel like it would have gotten a similar glow up on the big stage. Yes, the song is messy, but in the best way and the message is amazing and one we need at Eurovision for all under represented languages in Europe.

The reason I ask is because I am interested, but I don't have any family ties or anything to Ireland, I am just fascinated by Ireland as a country and a huge language nerd, but I wouldn't want to accidentally offend anyone. I know that with small languages, it can sometimes be frowned upon when you try to learn it/speak it without any real connection to it.

The world saw how they behaved with Joost Klein, all because he was vocal about his opinions on Israel. They were absolutely foul towards him, very underhanded and very manipulative because they desperately didnt want to derail their attempt at appearing the victims. Imagine just how much worse they would've been with Bashar Murad knowing that he really did represent the victims?
João Borsch is from Madeira - we knew they had a good chance of winning the televote regardless of who was winning overall, and then the entire island voted for them en masse. If they bring something that has the jury vote on locks, they could easily win FDC in the next few years. Also worth pointing out, I did interview João - for future reference, they’re NB, and have a cracking back catalogue, very few songs sound the same. They also have the Mahmood-like anime influence going for them as well. Would love to see them back at FDC but can’t say for sure if that’ll happen
João is my biggest music discovery this year! Because international juries put him 3rd. I can imagine a scenario where he would have been kept locked away in a hotel room as much as possible the same as Eden was to prevent conflict but I'm sure we'd still have seen far worse incidents than the shitshow still had to endure this year.
I hope Bashar Murad is able to compete in Eurovision in future, whether for Iceland or a different country. He'd do well with his sophisticated pop style. Unfortunately he will probably have to wait until Israel gets the boot from the competition first 😥

Nice take on these songs and their possible fate during Eurovision. My only disagreement is how well Finland, Spain and Estonia would have done with their second place finishers. Both Finland and Spain had ballads that would have received fewer votes compared to the ballads from France and Portugal, and both songs would have suffered from the problematic public vote generated for Israel. With Estonia, that pretty good rock song would have been steamrolled by Rim Tim Tagi Dim in the final. But it might not have even made the final: it would have been competing for votes with Norway and Czechia in the second semifinal.
Finally something I truly agree with gabe... Iceland's second place belonged at Eurovision, but had it been there... well... Europapa would have been in the final because Isreal would have found another target I find it interesting that you wax lyrically about Lithuania's second, Shower, however when talking about Sergei Lazarev and "You are the only one" a few videos back, you panned the song. If you keep the politics out of it, it is one of the most brilliant song and presentation combinations that has ever graced the stage. Of course keeping politics out of things you have to admi that this year Israel and back up Israel (Also known as Luxembourg) sent brilliant vocalists. Should they have finished where they did, well, Italy answered that in the semi and the two take outs of that are 1) the EBU has to change the voting portal 2) Israel needs to be fvcking kicked out of the fvcking contest but Sergei deserves more love that what you have given him and Iceland sent the wrong song
Pelas Costuras… has been and will keep being my most listened song this year, maybe because I’m portuguese, but the studio version is sooooo goood imo. It feels dated enough but also very fresh, the bridge is delicious, and the edgy vibe really brings it all together! But this year FDC had so many good choices, send iolanda was so amazing. She has the live quality.
I totally agree with you Gabe. I´m from Germany and hated the National Selection aswell. Every time, when the songs got revealed for the NF, the most of the songs are absolutely dull and boring; cause "the songs MUST be Radio-friendly!"
This is a great video, much better than I expected. I was afraid that having heard all but two national finals, this would have been overfamiliar. However, you are so well-spoken and opinionated that this was highly entertaining. A joy to watch. I agree with you most of the ratings, but I really hated Bananas and quite like GobTobann in the NF because you could actually make out the tune.
"Sinceramente", "Onda Alta", "Casa Mia, "La rabbia non ti basta", "Tuta Gold", "L'amore in bocca", "Il cielo non ci vuole"...so many wonderful & varied songs this year.
I just want to clear the air regarding the Serbian song. Personally, I’m glad it didn’t win - so no need to jump on me just yet. I don't believe the song is inherently ultranationalist. While some elements could be interpreted as having a "war song" vibe, I don’t think that was the intention. A lot of people are reading too much into it because of the country’s past. Sure, some ultranationalists are claiming it’s about Kosovo, but I genuinely don't think that's the case. Breskvica and her team may have some questionable views, but this song doesn’t seem aimed at anyone in particular. And for those focusing on the "black birds" reference - keep in mind that black birds have symbolized bad news for centuries, even millennia. EDIT: The biggest crime in this song is her vocals live, sorry not sorry.
The good thing about Serbia sending Breskvica to Eurovision would probably have been the fact that she would have challenged Eden for the right-wing and ultranationalist vote, thus, Israel wouldn't have gotten as many votes from the public.
@@in_wino_veritas I'm not sure if it would even go well. Let's say she actually sang the song well, I don't think that it's even making it out of the semis. And also, I don't think it would resonate with that much people - both musically and lyrically, not even ultranationalists. It would only resonate with ultranationalists in Serbia, I guess.
It would be cool if you balanced each review of the runners up. Like with Elly or Ailsha, despite your criticism, maybe try and tell the viewer why you think it did well enough to come second place?
11:32 As a German, I have to say about the national selection: nobody likes it! The focus is far too much on the host of the selection rather than the artists. Basically everyone wanted Rick to win, but thanks to the stupid concept of allowing votes even after the jury’s results came in (which put Rick in third place🙄), the winner was decided between Isaak and Max. Everyone in Germany hates the national finale and begs NDR (the broadcaster) to stop hosting it
Croatia - Vinko could've qualified but probably would've been 8th-10th in the semi at best. If it was in the final it probably would've done decently with juries but not so well with televote. But no one from that lineup could live up to Baby Lasagna. Czechia - I agree in retrospect. I like the studio version but idk how the Czech delegation would've pulled it off. Denmark - it probably would've been seen in a similar light as Saba (before the semi happened) - waiting in the wings for someone to fuck up but probably ends up in 11th-13th no matter what. Estonia - I think it would be an easy qualifier and would get between 12th-16th in the final. Finland - Semi 1 would've been WAY more competitive (for better or worse) and yes easy qualifier for sure. Probably in the top and would've done pretty well with both the jury and televote. Germany - Another last place for the collection. Iceland - easy qualifier in the semi. I don't think it would've won but top 10 isn't out of the picture. However, I am kinda glad Bashar dodged a bullet and didn't have to go through the horrible shit from #that delegation like Bambie, Joost, Marina, etc did. Still a shame nonetheless since sending Hera who got last in the semi over a very possible top 10 result was fumbling the bag big time. Ireland - 10000% agree with you. Italy - probably their worst result since 2014 Latvia - well since this year proved there wasn't an anti Latvia conspiracy with Dons comfortably qualifying for the final with a fairly generic (but good) ballad, this might've done okay and made it to the final. Probably would've gotten around the same result as Dons imo. Lithuania - i really don't know how it would've done. probably wouldn't have an easy time qualifying imo Luxembourg - easy qualifier (I think they reallyyyy wanted Luxembourg to qualify no matter what). Probably would've been in the top 10 as well. Malta - definitely wouldn't get last in the semi, but because netherlands and estonia were there and later in the show it might've struggled a bit. Moldova - I do think this could've been worked with staging wise but idk if it would've stood in a chance in that semi Norway - would qualify but not do as well as 2019. Portugal - yup I agree with you San Marino - lmao it wouldn't have qualified. she would've been fun to have around though. Serbia - probably would've qualified but thankfully we didn't have to endure another genocidal propaganda song because one was already too much. Spain - if they changed the staging for Eurovision it would've given Slimane a run for his money with the jury. Sweden - great for a host entry but i agree with you that it could've gotten dicey geopolitics wise Ukraine - easy qualifier, top 10 (the staging likely would've been changed and been better). However, the discourse around this song would've been insufferable (in the social media bubble male ballads are usually not super well liked and because it's touching on the war people get up in their feelings about that).
I still cant forgive Finland what they did. The best song of all selections didnt see the Eurovision stage. I cant believe. Paskana is such a masterpiece and it would be so elevated on ESC stage(you can imagine - better lights, clothes, camera angles. It would be favourite of majority. Its the biggest crime happened in 10 years in my opinion. Many people resonated with the song

27:25 fun fact! if João Borsch had won Festival da Canção and had gone to Eurovision, he would've been our 4th non binary person in this years contest!
I'm not sure what's going on with KEiiNO. I adore their album - the inclusion of indigenous artists from other nations is really fascinating and brings a lot of variety to the album. It's fabulous. I saw them live in Manchester and met them and they were lovely. But Damdiggida and a lot of their more recent releases (I feel like Monument is JUST different enough) just seems to be following the same formula of dance pop + joiking + Alexandra hits a big note, and I'm not sure why. I know Alexandra has been doing a lot of solo performing, Tom released a solo album and Fred has a new baby, so perhaps they just haven't had the time or energy to really experiment creatively together.
Shower 🤝 Sudden Lights Indie rock bands from a Baltic Country with a song not in 4/4 Honestly if Shower had won it probably would’ve done similarly too
Before UMK final I was going to vote for Sara...But the staging and vocals were so off and as the rest five were just doing nothing me as so many fellow finns ended up voting Win95. Hopefully we could send someone actually good with great staging this year... My fingers are crossed for young artist Hugo to take part in UMK :)
I agree with you in the fact that loco boombox is the greatest song of all times, god the live version it's just a piece of art and the lyrics are just a bunch of stupid spanish references I absolutely love. glad someone knows that song too xd
To think Let 3 would have probably won Dora if BL either hadn't competed or the selection jury had it their way. Without BL in the running, his televote score would have probably went to Let 3, who did surprisingly well with the jury. Bullet dodged
As a German I can tell you that people would have voted for Max Mutzke even if had just farted into the microphone because he genuinely is a really nice guy and actually a very good and soulful singer. Voters just simply didn't care that this song was as bland as it gets. And since Germany didn't do very well in the last few years, when we sent "debatable" performances, many just wanted to play it safe. Almost all ESC artists have been SHREDDED by German media after their horrible losses with either excentric or lackluster performances, so German voters and also many artists would rather play it safe than fail with yet an embarrassing performance.
My take on Germany's approach to Eurovision is that they (and I am talking about the public and the juries here) would generally rather send something that "doesn't hurt the ears", so to speak, and finish last than take a risk with a song and an act that could potentially do a lot better. Maybe it's because the TV-viewing population in Germany skews older? Maybe the broadcaster in charge just doesn't understand the assignment and therefore they just don't know what they're doing? Maybe it's both? I don't know. I also get the impression that contemporary artists that could do well don't think of Eurovision as a serious music platform that can now work wonders for their careers and therefore stay away from it, but maybe I'm wrong. Who knows? Maybe Germany might surprise us all and win Eurovision in 2025? Who says they can't? There's nowhere in Europe better positioned to host than Germany in terms of infrastructure because so many cities could host it.
I’d be interested to see how you think the UK’s most recent 26 entrants would place in a UKVision, based on how you think juries/public would vote for them against each other as well as songs that were unfairly low on the leaderboard. I wouldn’t want the scores they actually got to play too much of a part, because the other countries entrants would have impacted how many points the UK could receive.
I don´t care wether they would have placed better or worse than M&M but I think we can all agree that Medina would have had the arena ROCKING from that first spot in the final. Robbed!
Germany is doing well with puplic selections IF the national TV stations ("öffentlich-rechtliche", similar to BBC in UK) are not doing it. Lena in 2010 was selected through public voting in a TV casting hosted and produced by Stefan Raab (who also participated for Germany many years ago). The last few years it has been with the national TV stations again, and as those are pretty much the "old-people-TV-stations" here... well, you saw the results 🤷
I actually love Lying Eyes by Vinko. It has made me cry on multiple listens and I love the meshing sounds, rhythms and harmonies of the guitar in the last chorus and the piano. It takes a little bit to start, but I think it is one of the most, if not THE most emotionally effective Eurovision song of all time.
About Germany, I feel like they’re just gonna return to unser song für cause Basel has not hosted Eurovision once before and since Jeremy has done that so many times before they should just return to that but if they don’t, I’m taking your side in the protest
I am sure that Germany will do another NF but there are rumors that Stefan Raab will have a say in this. And songs on which he had his hands were usually very successful including satellite. I am not sure if he knows what are good songs nowadays but he defo knows much about staging and marketing. Fingers crossed that the rumors are true 🤞 Greetings from Germany
I usually support you, but I cannot support you not thinking Sand is better. You would never get true art. Get the SAND SAAAAAAAND out of your bumhole and appreciate the goodness life brings.
I so wished Basim had won DMGP and represented Denmark in 2024. He was my favorite from the start, and I do think he would've had a better chance of qualifying for the finale more than Saba.
well germany only did so bad from 2011-2019 and from 2021-2023 was because mostly older people vote since it's only streamed via the ARD and not via other channels this is why only older people vote for it. This is why it should be better if it's streamed via PrimeVideo de like they did with the bambi price, bc more ypung ppl watch this than the ARD broadcaster.
To be honest I am still torn between Damdiggida and Ulveham. I listen to Damdiggida a lot more than Ulveham now in fact. However I think this year Ulveham was a better choice in terms of Norwegian representative in Eurovision and was definitely robbed. 2021 Keiino did get robbed though, and I will stand by that to this day. The only one entry I disagree with with a passion is Anti Princess by Valeria Pasha. Genuinely I danced and vibed to this song with a friend and we both loved it waaaay more than the literal standing statue that is Natalia Barbu. I think that song has more potential than In the middle will ever have staging wise. Of course the choreo and stuff do need improvements, but as long as that is good to go and with a decent staging, I think Moldova would have smashed into the finals and finish relatively mid table in the night. I would certainly put this song in my top 10 at least if it did come to Eurovision compared to like...what Bottom 5 with In the middle? 😅
I'm german and still mad about Ryk not representing us this year 😢 Isaak was fine, but Oh Boy is SUCH a great song. Germans obviously have no clue what works at the ESC.
I love that Grandpa, my only fear is that one day they go like "you know what? Grandpa you go represent us at Eurovision" and that he gets a heart attack from the shock and dies :
it's pronounced boom-BAK. also, bumbac means cotton. if u're unsure how to pronounce a name you can try putting it in google translate and hear it, usually it's accurate

7:59 - your 2nd most streamed song 💚💚💚
Does anyone know what site or application Gabe is using here?
This one is a banger! I laughed so much. Thank you Gabe!
And ALbania??? There was a second place in the FiK (well, the winner also could have been reviewed, oh my ears!)
I loved Isaak (he was my second favourite after Baby Lasagna). I was so happy to get a great song and singer from Germany at last!
5:45 even bruno mars has moved on from bruno mars-style vocals lol
I still listen to Paskana 😢
Wait it translates to sh*t? Oml
@The.rs.show.youtube yea
It translates to "fucked up", there's no elegant literal translation.
Wait it’s actually called paskana 💀💀 I thought he was just saying it incorrectly
Medina would have been so fun at Eurovision
This is a great video, much better than I expected. I was afraid that having heard all but two national finals, this would have been overfamiliar. However, you are so well-spoken and opinionated that this was highly entertaining. A joy to watch. I agree with you most of the ratings, but I really hated Bananas and quite like GobTobann in the NF because you could actually make out the tune.
We need a video of Gabe going through his Spotify Wrapped
next year we'll also be in this video 🇬🇷💙
Italy had such a deep final this year, Annalisa and Mahmood both could have challenged the top 5, it’s a shame they were all in the same sanremo
"Sinceramente", "Onda Alta", "Casa Mia, "La rabbia non ti basta", "Tuta Gold", "L'amore in bocca", "Il cielo non ci vuole"...so many wonderful & varied songs this year.
'Dos extraños' should have won Spanish National Selection
@@n1kola9 maybe. But she would have received some points of that crowd and Israel would have received a few points less, I guess.
@@n1kola9 It would have qualified in the same way Teya qualified this year (over half her semifinal points came from Slovenia and Croatia)
@sav0001 yep, 10th place, just slightly ahead of Australia, maybe the margin would have been slightly smaller, though
Woo hoo! waiting for new video!
24:43 absolutely sent me haha
We want Ollie! But the entries the last two years from Estonia have also been great!
Everyone in Germany hates the national finale and begs NDR (the broadcaster) to stop hosting it
17:25 correction: 1 song in Supernova, "Na Chystu Vodu", was in Ukrainian.
me getting an ad at 7:14 was diabolical LMAOO
Still sad about Kur🥲
I really needed impossible by shower 😢
Ollie my friend lives rent free in my head I love that song
OMG I have the same most played and second most played song as ESC GABE
🇪🇪🇫🇮
Italy - probably their worst result since 2014
Latvia - well since this year proved there wasn't an anti Latvia conspiracy with Dons comfortably qualifying for the final with a fairly generic (but good) ballad, this might've done okay and made it to the final. Probably would've gotten around the same result as Dons imo.
Lithuania - i really don't know how it would've done. probably wouldn't have an easy time qualifying imo
Luxembourg - easy qualifier (I think they reallyyyy wanted Luxembourg to qualify no matter what). Probably would've been in the top 10 as well.
Malta - definitely wouldn't get last in the semi, but because netherlands and estonia were there and later in the show it might've struggled a bit.
Moldova - I do think this could've been worked with staging wise but idk if it would've stood in a chance in that semi
Norway - would qualify but not do as well as 2019.
Portugal - yup I agree with you
San Marino - lmao it wouldn't have qualified. she would've been fun to have around though.
Serbia - probably would've qualified but thankfully we didn't have to endure another genocidal propaganda song because one was already too much.
Spain - if they changed the staging for Eurovision it would've given Slimane a run for his money with the jury.
Sweden - great for a host entry but i agree with you that it could've gotten dicey geopolitics wise
Ukraine - easy qualifier, top 10 (the staging likely would've been changed and been better). However, the discourse around this song would've been insufferable (in the social media bubble male ballads are usually not super well liked and because it's touching on the war people get up in their feelings about that).
I agree with you if it comes to Keiino. We need something better.
Que Sera would have been absolutely fire if it closed the grand final, too bad it would have went first had it won
1:18 Piano on fire spotted!!
Quick! Add it to the bingo board!
I know this is the wrong year, but Gladiator. Poland. I’ll never get over that.
Jann😞
I still don't understand how they decided between Anti Princess and Natalie's crap
You have cha cha cha the same as me! Second most listened (and probably get 1st), And the (nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi always reproduces me randomly IDK why
St. Pedro would have been a lovely addition to the final. - I agree that the staging was sterile. Such a missed opportunity.
27:25 fun fact! if João Borsch had won Festival da Canção and had gone to Eurovision, he would've been our 4th non binary person in this years contest!
I'm a trans woman myself and I think I must have missed someone. Nemo, Bambie Thug and...?
@@catrionacolville2192 olly alexander!
imo st. pedro and sara siipola were the most robbed
as a spanish girlie, st pedro my beloved
Shower 🤝 Sudden Lights
Indie rock bands from a Baltic Country with a song not in 4/4
Honestly if Shower had won it probably would’ve done similarly too
Before UMK final I was going to vote for Sara...But the staging and vocals were so off and as the rest five were just doing nothing me as so many fellow finns ended up voting Win95.
A few of the runners up need time to season and cook.
for some reason, Impossible hit me so so hard and is probably my favourite song of the 2024 nf season
#Ailshaforeurovision2025
this is how I learned that Let 3, Mydy, The Roop and Ryk weren't runners-up in Dora, ESCZ, EurovizijaLT and whatever the German NF is called now.
Kinda reminds be of Andres Bagge from Sweden 2022
Go Tobann was robbed.
I’d be interested to see how you think the UK’s most recent 26 entrants would place in a UKVision, based on how you think juries/public would vote for them against each other as well as songs that were unfairly low on the leaderboard. I wouldn’t want the scores they actually got to play too much of a part, because the other countries entrants would have impacted how many points the UK could receive.
i liked "wild west" so much... i still mourn it 😅
I don´t care wether they would have placed better or worse than M&M but I think we can all agree that Medina would have had the arena ROCKING from that first spot in the final. Robbed!
Joao actually uses they/them pronouns
Germany is doing well with puplic selections IF the national TV stations ("öffentlich-rechtliche", similar to BBC in UK) are not doing it. Lena in 2010 was selected through public voting in a TV casting hosted and produced by Stefan Raab (who also participated for Germany many years ago). The last few years it has been with the national TV stations again, and as those are pretty much the "old-people-TV-stations" here... well, you saw the results 🤷
Dreamer from Mélovin was one of my favorites to not make it. It’s a total bop!
Someone mentioning Dreamer! My favourite non-winning NF entry, would be in my top 5 as well in Eurovision
Gabe... I disagree so much with you yet find some common ground and love you unconditionally 😂
You forgot Poland's runner up: Justyna Steczkowska with a song"Witch-er Tarohoro"
Medina, with a song sung actually in swedish; ”Que sera sera, danse la viva la vida” 😂
Every song in the melodifestivalen final was good
About Germany, I feel like they’re just gonna return to unser song für cause Basel has not hosted Eurovision once before and since Jeremy has done that so many times before they should just return to that but if they don’t, I’m taking your side in the protest
I am sure that Germany will do another NF but there are rumors that Stefan Raab will have a say in this. And songs on which he had his hands were usually very successful including satellite. I am not sure if he knows what are good songs nowadays but he defo knows much about staging and marketing. Fingers crossed that the rumors are true 🤞
Greetings from Germany
Those have been confirmed to be true
I usually support you, but I cannot support you not thinking Sand is better. You would never get true art. Get the SAND SAAAAAAAND out of your bumhole and appreciate the goodness life brings.
FIGHT ME (seriously tho i appreciate the support)
@@escgabe Next time you come to Finland, it's on sight.
as a german i hate the choices the jury makes. It doesn't neeed to be a song that could be played on the radio!
pls we have more to show.
I so wished Basim had won DMGP and represented Denmark in 2024. He was my favorite from the start, and I do think he would've had a better chance of qualifying for the finale more than Saba.
Especially if the led staging was used again
well germany only did so bad from 2011-2019 and from 2021-2023 was because mostly older people vote since it's only streamed via the ARD and not via other channels this is why only older people vote for it.
Hopefully, we'll see someone eat a fruit on the Eurovision stage in the future. We need more food breaks, not dance breaks.
I love that Grandpa, my only fear is that one day they go like "you know what? Grandpa you go represent us at Eurovision" and that he gets a heart attack from the shock and dies :
it's pronounced boom-BAK. also, bumbac means cotton. if u're unsure how to pronounce a name you can try putting it in google translate and hear it, usually it's accurate
hello i'm here to do the once per video Mal Retkoceri mention as we don't have official confirmation who came second in eff-eye-kay's televote
Didn't Besa say it was Olsi Ballta?
@@noagaselga3345 she did, but that's not official
