When ABATE was former in '72 by Lou Kimzey and Keith Ball of EasyRiders magazine, it stood for American Bikers Against Totalitarian Enactments, but I guess like everything else, it pussed out over the years. Good video.👍
I grew up in a bikers world behind my father during the 60’s & 70’s when most riders were outlaws. In 1980 or so, I took my mc riders test on my father’s custom (long front end) and passed with flying colors. I started as a member of MMA (remember them?) in the late 80’s, 1st becoming a PAC Rep in Fresno then working with Ron Roloff in Sacramento. After the death of Ron, I kinda faded away. I moved to New Orleans in 1993 and took a hiatus from riding while raising my infant daughter as a single father. In 2004, when my daughter would be looked after in my absence, I pulled my bikes from the shop and started riding daily again. I became a life member of ABATE a few years later. The local chapter was heavily involved in new drivers training teaching them about motorcyclists and truckers. They were also fighting helmet laws. In 2010, I was crippled in a hit and run from one of our uninvited southern neighbors. I lost my left leg above the knee & I suffered brain damage and most of my short term memory and keeps me from walking even with a prosthesis. I’m sporadic in my involvement with bikers rights because I’ve been battling health issues since my wreck. I still ride when I get the opportunity. I know for a fact ABATE of Louisiana has been most active in fighting distracted driving and adding penalties to drivers who maim or kill a vulnerable road user (walkers, bicyclists, and motorcyclists), including jail time. Although the helmet law is still on the table, it’s taken a back seat to the more important issues. I’ve been around for quite awhile in the bikers rights world. Please refrain from sharing your opinion of your local ABATE with your audience just for content and believe all chapters are like that. Im proud of my local chapter of ABATE. I can’t speak to other areas as I haven’t been around them.
As a former ABATE of Indiana Board member, ABATE of Indiana went to he'll whenever Balls retired. ABATE was the real deal here until the 90s. The states current leader has totally sold out to businesses. It sucks now, but it used to be a great organization.
Florida is different, especially the Daytona Beach Chapter. We bring in politicians and decision makers to share their views so members can make an informed decision, most of the ones that talk are likeminded to us. We have many clubs that attend every meeting from 1%ers, Clean & Sober, Religious/Cristian, Riding Groups and others... We fight profiling, helmets laws, texting and driving, stiffer penalties for those that kill one of ours, the stuff that matters, not grass clipping and other bullshit. The Riots are happening Big Time over here in the UK Hollywood! And I've been binge watching it on RUclips, between that and a 300 mile trip down to Plymouth in the South of England on Wednesday to bring my Son home with His crap after His 4 years in The Performing Arts University, Then another trip back down Plymouth the following day as We didn't have enough room for all of His stuff and to clean His digs, I took a look at Your ABATE Show 😂😂😂😂😂 When You said about Them crying about grass clippings and all that kind of stuff 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣 I nearly broke a freaking rib Man!! That was Awesome! Pure Class Hollywood, Best Laugh I've had in ages!! 😁 Great Content! Rock On! 👍🤘😎🏴😂😂😂😂😂

I listen to your podcast and you did address briefly from the early days that ABATE did some good, and they did do some good when they were "a brotherhood against totalitarian enactments". I was a member for about 7 years back in the 90s., and meeting are starting to go to shit then, but here in Comyfornia in the early days ABATE did a lot of good things, I could only imagine how political it is today
I know all about ABATE. Rode with one of the region’s here in Michigan a while back. My beef was for every $ we took in, ABATE (state office in Lansing) got 75%. Trying to help the community raising $ and most of it went north. Other reasons too that I won’t get into. The folks that RIDE with and as ABATE were awesome tho nothing against them. But most everyone I know bounced from that organization and moved on to other organizations etc
Surprised nobody said anything about Motorcycle Rights Foundation ( MRF ) and Biker Down that's pretty much a damn requirement here in Arizona based on the number of crashes and political stuff that ABATE is pretty much outdated on or doesn't have the financial pull to change a diaper let alone any laws
Another thing to think about. Netflix, Amazon ect ect. If a company is donating to values you oppose, you are contributing. You endorse a companies message if you do business with that company. It is what it is. How principled are people really?
ABATE... depends on the group. They have had any issue sometimes similar to clubs or business have..drama it seems. Thr ones that do good we walk beside. Some do not do anything... I am going to say this. This is between us. I went into 1 state to listen to riders, and I met with horrific roads.. bad roads. And I talked to riders and overall they said "Fix the roads". I called ABATE and say hi and what I have heard, and what they are doing. They pushed it off. The roads were so dangerous that it would have killed a rider. I was in a truck with my son and dog and I was scared. ..this was a main road. Any who, I tried to call them got no where. I was driving to pick up cards for WABWBU and I saw a biker. And pulled up and got out. It was ABATE! What are the chances! And I told them. He was like "I will get back to you". 😢 I have it when I officially get up that way. We will work on the road situation with the city. It sadden me because we love helping. This was in the area they are supposed to take care of.
Your full of it in wisc. They have a good relationship with the clubs and keep the lids off your head and helped me out in my town when the town cops were profiling bikers.
SO you went top a couple of meetings and now judge really...ABATE in Kansas does not shun outlaw types etc in fact one district for years was run by a local outlaw senior Member ( that's president) they are still doing good in Kansas and again you judge after two meetings wow...but it does depend on the local chapters and check out the Lake Perry run did every year in Kansas sponsored by you guessed it ABATE.....

ABATE has become similar to the NRA. The NRA kinda started to learn their lesson. But for a while we’re in the same track
