Railfanning CSX & Amtrak in NC/VA 09/03/2023 (ft. AMTK 46, ALC-42’s, Auto Train w/ Dash 8, & more!)

On Sunday September 3rd, I did a bit of railfanning in northeastern NC and southeastern VA. When I set out, my main goal was to catch some of the new ALC-42 Charger locomotives on the Amtrak Palmetto. I ended up catching two of them, P42DC Phase V “heritage” unit No. 46, a couple of CSX freights, two normal silver stars, and Amtrak Auto Train No. 53 with 35 cars (13 superliners, 22 autoracks) which was being led by P40DC No. 815, P32-8BWH (Dash 8) No. 513, and P40DC No. 821. All these were caught in either Northwestern NC (everything before AMTK 90), or southwestern VA (AMTK 90 and after). Enjoy a very interesting day on the rails!
