Love your channel you explain things so well and clear and you look at each attack as it’s own separate case please keep bringing us your stories of attacks
That's akin to walking 30 miles through the jungles of India with bloody lamb chops tied around your neck. The tiger that gets you would thank you, between bites, if it could.
I must admit, your analogy of a "ketchup sandwich" really hit home for me. I am a shark enthusiast and I am for the conservation of the species (banning shark finning etc), HOWEVER when I've been looking at the shark attacks of Shirley Ann Durdin, Sam Kellett and Robert Pamperin and I have read about how violent/malicious those attacks have been, it has made me come to question the whole "sharks do not actively hunt humans" line that has been spouted by experts for so long. Your analogy has hit it on the head for me. It isn't that they are actively hunting human beings, we are just a target of opportunity for a very hungry shark, which is what differs a predation attack from a test bite or even a genuine case of mistaken identity. My feeling is that the sharks do not hunt humans line came about after Jaws and the threat of certain shark species of becoming extinct. As I said, whilst I do believe that sharks should not be hunted to help preserve the species and labelled as "man-eaters", I do think that experts should be more honest about the findings of these attacks, as all it is doing is spreading misinformation and bad education. As an example, it has been proven that Saltwater Crocodiles actively will hunt human beings. They are genuine man eaters. If that's the case of a 16-20ft Saltwater Croc, would logic not suggest the same of a 16-20ft shark? They are both apex predators. We are made of flesh and blood. Just because we are human does not mean that we are exempt from the food chain. Of course, there are those tests of fish blood vs human blood in the water and yes it proves that sharks will go wild for the smell of fish blood, but it does not necessarily say that they would not consume a human for food, or another land based mammal if it happened to fall in the water. After all, if a human being was genuinely starving, it would eat anything in front of him, even if its a Pot Noodle! Could it also be the case that some sharks of the same species will have different personalities as well? It has been shown that some Great Whites are far more placid in nature and others much more boisterous and aggressive. It would be a fascinating area of study. Your channel has been very fascinating to watch. I look forward to seeing more content in the future!
Yes. I did not like the sharks do not like to eat humans statements. That is a given. The problem is when the need to eat and cannot get the prey they want. At a certain point, we become what they think is necessary to continue to their next seal, sea lion, dead whale…
I think that is what happens in most white attacks in the med and why they are so brutal there. Not close to any food source and will eat what they can passing theu
Well saltwater crocodiles are the definition of an opportunistic hunter. They will truly take whatever they can get their mouth around, even more so than sharks. Humans naturally aren’t apart of their diet, but some crocs have conditioned themselves to view humans as prey, and these man eaters are extremely dangerous and often not heard about because many attacks occur in remote villages (like in SE Asia for example). Crocodilians have a mindset very similar to birds of prey (and I’d imagine carnivorous dinosaurs as well). If a potential prey item is before them, they will take it.
@@MeatzB I would think we are no different to a large monkey to Crocs, considering the large amount of human predation by Nile Crocs in Africa it seems humans are somewhat normal prey...
That is my thoughts exactly. The sharks are protected so the population gets bigger which means food is scarse so if a shark sees a human and its hungry it is gonna attack. Its a no brainer lol.
I was hit by a 14-16 foot GWS in Cambria Ca. Was mistaken identity. (Kayak looked like elephant seal in opening of kelp?) Shark went from feeding mode to territorial mode within a matter of seconds. While tying on a new jig in my kayak I saw a wide flash of grey rapidly strike my kayak from below and to my left striking the bottom center left side of my kayak. I ( 240lbs) was knocked into the air aprox 4 feet. When I landed in the water and while underwater, I could see the shark swimming towards me but veered to my right just before it got to me. The shark bumped into me with its left cheek and side fin. I then returned to my kayak to flip it over. I was at the rear third of my now upside down kayak with my right arm reached across on the other side to flip it. Just when I was about to flip the kayak, the shark returned and bit down on the whole bow of my kayak. The shark started shaking and swimming at the same time. I could not maintain my grip and the kayak and shark passed under me with its dorsal fin brushing against my right arm and right side of my face. The shark traveled about 30 feet or so with the kayak thrashing it around side to side. I held a defensive crouching position while looking around for about 2 minutes until my friend arrived in his kayak. I laid on the back of his kayak with my legs out of the water and he took me back to my kayak. I flipped the kayak over and we headed to shore because of the amount of water in my kayak. We made it safely to shore without further encounters.
Wow. I think it is mostly a territorial thing when they do that. But I do have a case where it bit the kayak then took a large chunk from the person killing them. A couple shows from now.
Just like you Hal, I would have a heart attack if a big shark appeared near me. It's completely amazing how the survival instinct kicks in with some of the people who are attacked, instead of being overwhelmed by the size and horror of the sight of something so huge and menacing, they fight back. Brave, brave people. I think when the sharks tail is lashing back and fro, it's to drive the shark forward to secure a purchase with the bite. Their tails are what they use to propel their forward motion, if the tail is still they don't move away all.
I like that people spend a lot of time trying to figure out why animals do what they do. But I think sometimes it's just what we could call 'nature'. Like the family dog suddenly bites you for no reason you understand. The dog knows though. That's the main reason you won't see me swimming in the ocean at night. The shark probably knows I'm not a seal but maybe I'm giving him some signal without even realising it. Too many possibilities. Too spooky for me! Loved the video btw, new sub here.
I completely agree with these motives, it is a mix of things. Anyone that claims sharks only bite humans as they think we are a seal is crazy, that is like saying sharks only eat seals and nothing else.
Totally agree we can be targets of opportunity. Many want us to believe all violent shark attacks are mistaken identity, but clearly there are times when the intent is to consume even after they know the victim is not a seal or sea lion. If all were mistaken identity, they’d leave shortly after the initial bite or bites & spit out any chunks of flesh they took in figuring it out.
I saw a documentary where scientists who were studying the GW's brain and vision receptors they see in colors of green, and the way light hits their eyes and certain receptors in the eyeballs, they're designed mostly to see very well above and to the front of them. If one disappears from your sight, look behind and below you, several shark specialists said in several docs I've watched. I'm fascinated and terrified at the same time, so I'm hooked on shark docs!!!
The fact we are the junk food equivalent of a 6 day past its prime Gas station hotdog to these Megalodons is terrifying, funny and offensive. None the less these stories ensure I stay land based.. 😆
I really enjoy the fact that this channel treats shark attacks realistically . I’m from Massachusetts which since the marine mammal protection act was passed has turned certain areas of cape cod into hotbeds of shark activity. Every time an attack happens all you hear is reasons why it happened , more often than not mistaken identity . The bottom line is that sharks eat just about anything in the water. When we enter the water we become prey . Seems sometimes we can’t understand we are part of the food chain. Love the channel !
Yes. They over reacted and now have runaway pinniped populations and the sharks that come with it. Probably need to look into numbers if both and do some real world problem solving on the issue. Too few sharks is a big problem, but so is too many large ones
An Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt back in 1967 went for a morning swim in Victoria Aus. He was never seen again. No one knows what happened to him whether he just drowned or if something else happened to him. I have always been of the opinion that he was taken by a shark because his mistress gave a interview & said she was watching him swimming along when suddenly the water started churning up around him & he suddenly disappeared underwater never to be seen again. Despite MASSIVE air & water searches (he was our Prime minister after all) no remains were ever found.
I'll check that out. I like to find , if going by "news" sources or books, material close to when it happened, when they just told you what happened on news and didnt make up the news and tell you what to think as is done now.
There's a strange think that happens underwater , I dove off a bridge next to my house as a kid, crazy kid, and a beer bottle must've rested standing up on the bottom, with the neck broke off, so I dove off and went down deep on purpose, as the water got colder I happened to impale my palm on that bottle, when I came up it didn't really hurt, but I soon realized glass was in my hand poking the skin on the top of my hand, so I grabbed it and pulled out a three inch shard of brown glass, hospital got more glass out, I had cut every tendon that makes our fingers move, so a hand specialist did major surgery , anyway underwater our pain from injuries such as shark bites probably don't hurt as much as if it were on land, from my experience with the bottle injury, maybe because our senses are kinda muted underwater , so hopefully people attacked don't suffer too much. IDK.
I think it’s more that it’s when a cut or graze is exposed to the air that we get the stinging sensation to our nerve endings, but also fortunately the adrenaline release really does curb the amount of pain felt initially
They’re pissed off 😂😂. That was classic. Love your channel. Overfishing those Oceans is one of the factors affecting their diet I guess. It affects the entite food chain.
That's why I think "Ocean Ramsey" and her "Tips for swimming with sharks" is reckless disregard for the unpredictability of every shark in the ocean (especially those who haven't fed lately). Making assumptions and relying on the shark whisperers infamous "stiff arm on the front nose" over and over...leads to the one fatal day with a bad shark. These "shark whisperers" have no problem playing with dangerous Tiger Sharks off Hawaii. They even name these sharks like a pet that they can swim with and play with as everyone sings "Kum bay ya" together. These idiots (shark whisperers) actually claim that their Tiger Shark friends are merely curious like any good hearted friend in the ocean, and just want to say hello for awhile. The curiosity is a creeping stalking routine by sharks who's aggression is carefully concealed predatrion seeking food. They want to eat you. The circling sharks usually come closer as they close their circle and come face to face forcing the old patented "stiff arm on the upper nose". Hint: boats attract curious maneaters and maulers. Don't dive off of boats. Don't assume you are safe around Tigers, Bulls, oceanic white tips, and the miserable ball busting Great White.
@@jimbeam7160 Well said. Couldn’t agree more. Sometimes I wonder how these so called divers swim around Sharks showing what gentle giants they are. I love Sharks and their home the Ocean should be respected.
@@ameyajoshi742 When I see bull sharks and Tiger's being hand fed by shark divers...I just cringe. What happens when the food runs out? Some of these divers go out at night? One guy didn't come back...they found his tanks after he took his belt off, but that's all they found? Hmmmm....Tiger Sharks like to attack from the rear...I've seen video of a Tiger approaching divers and getting shoved off to focus on the one diver who wasn't looking. He got mauled from behind when the shark locked onto his tanks and plumbing. You would have to undo your belt to get the shark off of you. Nonetheless...shark divers like Ocean Ramsey manage somehow to stiff arm slow movers pushing them to the side...and they do it all day long? Don't know if that's gonna work everytime, everyday with every shark? Ocean Ramsey is clever enough to balance the odds in her favor with success: see her videos showing "Tips for Diving with Large Sharks".
Love your channel Hal…great stories and insight. I’ve always been intrigued, almost obsessed with sharks and shark attacks so this is right up my street. Also agree with your perspective on the types of attack (especially GW). The media seem overly keen in both news and documentaries to push a mistaken identity, sharks aren’t to be irrationally feared narrative. I get the stats support this to a degree but I don’t think there could be a much more scary scenario than being attacked when you’re out of your element, can’t see it coming and can’t do much, if anything about it! You wouldn’t catch me in the water where I know dangerous sharks are around. Lucky I live in the UK!
If we did not pull the injured from the water those stats would be much different. Tgey dont do the fish any favors by excusing what it naturally does. Let people know that sometimes the shark is a shark with people.
What an awesome show!! I came across your channel late and now I went back to the beginning to consume as much as I can about shark attacks. I really appreciate the time and effort and the work you must do to make these videos, you're more of an expert than most!
“We are a ketchup sandwich”😂😂 How completely unappetizing! That says a lot about a predator when they will eat a prey source that they find repugnant. These are really interesting, really informative videos! Thanks for taking the time to make them! I just moved from Washington state to Savannah, GA, and am in the ocean more in the last three months than I ever have in my life.
Too bad "Ocean Ramsey" and her husband believe that you can rely on their shark diving tips? Tigers routinely attack anything when hungry. These romanticists idealize sharks feeling that they are just friendly, curious neighbors of the sea who need to be understood?
@@jimbeam7160 They're an essential part of the ecosystem. The bullshit about them being misunderstood is to try and get people to not brutalize the apex predators of the sea. If you don't care about them then you will be irrispossible and destroy the entire ocean ecosystem which in turn kills us. Circle of life shit, we are the only species on the planet that could go extinct and have every single earth ecosystem improve, while other extinctions have massive negative outcomes.
@@ihateusernamesgrrr My form of conservation is...I avoid going into the Sharks feeding grounds (the ocean). I think that's pretty wise and responsible. I'm wondering if "sharks are threatened" how would we see an impact in the ocean? Too many seals? I noticed the ban on killing GW sharks, has resulted in more GW's being seen. I have no comment on sharks other than: --don't splash; --don't dive noisely off a boat; --avoid swimming off boats near drop offs; --don't get near "shark feeding" tours; --don't spear fish (especially near a drop off in murky water); --don't swim near seals; --always assume sharks come to boats and wait for something to bite (which is what happens all too often); --if you do swim in the ocean, wouldn't it be nice to have some kind of long weapon to shove into a circling shark who's eyeing you?
I mentioned it before but for anyone interested there's a crazy video of a diver in quite murky water who turns to look back at the camera man when just about 6 foot in front of him a huge great white appears out the murk heading straight for him! As his head is turned the first he knows is when it bumps him (definite heart attack moment) his head must only be inches from those huge Jaws but the shark just keeps going. It is amazing footage and it's only about a minute long, I can't give a link as RUclips deletes them now but if you want to see it search diver is lucky to escape great white attack, pretty sure thats what it's called although personally I don't consider it an attack as there is no doubt he would be one dead diver if the shark had wanted to
... "you're there, they grab you (you grab your shoulder)" all the while you have a photo of a shark right behind you with the mouth pretty much lined up matching what you're explaining... made shivers go up and down my back LOL!!!!
I completely agree with your hypothesis. I don't have any doubt. If I want to gear facts about attacks, I go to you bc you have more experience and knowledge coupled with common sense! Great great show Hal! You should be an addition to shark week if its about shark attacks regardless of fish type. ❤well done Hal!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is true about the food analogy. When I was a kid I would eat Taco Bell sauce packets by themselves when I got home from school I was so hungry. I ate them because there was nothing else to eat.
It's so amazing and mind blowing how these GIANT creatures with razor sharp teeth can be gentle like people have described in some of these attacks... makes you wonder what else they are capable of and how complex their minds possibly could be!
i love this channel. I've been into sharks for years especially shark attack stories. I'm both fascinated and horrified by this scientific and horrific dissection on shark attack victims and back story. keep up the great work bro. I'm sure this is not for everybody but i can't get enough of it. could you research the attack on a girl in Bribie Island Queensland if you can find the story i think it was 2 sharks at the same time attacking her in front of witnesses.
Your thoughts on test bites are facinating. Couldn't agree more, the test bite areas have to influence the outcome of the encounter. I'm a nurse not a scientist, but "Gums Mean Go" certainly sounds right to me. My fat ass is only making it out alive if I get test bit on my foot haha
A single crappie usually isn’t a problem but you get into a school of them you’re in trouble. Just like piranha. Especially if you are wearing jig earrings.
Good morning from Malta, first of all great show I really enjoy it! in the Med there are a very few reported cases and experts think they are rare, but from what they say and what was seen they are always extremely huge very very large, the largest white on record was caught here in Malta and the Jaws can be seen at a local fisherman until today, we had one recorded attack here in Malta on an English tourist swimming with a Maltese friend he was gone in 2 seconds in the south of Malta, close by in Italy they have been seen and attacks have happened too. A UK team once did a small study in the Med trying to find out what is going on and what they are eating but they came up with nothing and I think they ran out of funds and couldn't persist, anyway take care guys
Hello Mark. I have some attacks in the med. Pretty brutal, seems it is like the Italian one I just did, Luciano Costanzo, they are very rare and many times very brutal!
There is an older documentary about GW's in the Mediterranean it described them all as monsters they showed a set of jaws so big that i dropped mine. But i think they that you dont find them as often anymore?, mayb overfishing of sardines?
@@Tseringlhatso you would think they would have keep these companys in check that want want want take take take for money today and who cares about anything, its true and disgusting and im not a hippie
This is quickly becoming my favorite channel. One thing id like to see here is how the sharks eyes roll into the back of its head when it attacks in order to protect its eyes from the struggling prey. I just learned that fact and was stunned because I always told myself if I get killed by a shark then im at least taking an eye with me, but it turns out mother nature fixed that issue
Isn't the cookie cutter shark, the shark that disabled a submarine? It took a bite out of the nose of the sub and it wound up screwing up there sonar lol.
Mistaken identity bites are brutal in any case. I'd rather be mistaken by a 8-10ft shark, then a 15-20+ ft shark. I'd rather lose a limb or a chunk out of my leg then half my body.

So very fortunate to not have been bitten but was a foot a way from a great Hammer Head on a waverunner one morning PCbeach FL.4ft long from eye 2 eye so I pounded the start button & ran into shore pissing fear & urine!didn't see how long it was but I guessed long from the wave its head created swimming below my friend & my skis..Biggest fear is being predated by anything.especially Sharks.its why I love all Steve's videos.take care everyone..

@@loneconcern2639 On the gulf coast on Boca Chica Beach east of Brownsville, Texas. In murky water, the high school football team (coaches, families) all enjoyed a post season celebration on the beach. Coach, in waist deep water, got his lower thigh stripped by a Bull Shark. Made it to shore. Lived as a cripple the rest of his life. Doesn't matter what time of day or conditions....Bull Sharks are aggressive feeders of anything that can be eaten. If you see a huge school of mullet coming into the shallows off the Golf Coast, get everyone out of the water. Bullsharks herding fish. If Bull Sharks had legs, they'd give Ted Bundy and The CIA's MK Ultra serial murderers a run for their money. I suspect, Shark Week is a CIA operation on TV to use fear as a political weapon that remains one of the most popular and valuable shows on cable TV. It's fascinating to think you could be hunted and eaten alive by a mere fish with the IQ of a fish hook.
I like your reasoning they do not inherently want a human but it makes sense missed some seals, glucose low, hunger pangs ….eh why not? Bony human should hold me over until i can snatch a seal.
I love this chanel I am from the UK 🇬🇧 we do not have much shark attacks in the UK but we enjoy this chance so much we try hard to get in to like the shark falling of the wall in a pub or the one where they cut a shark open and the fumes knocked them out the UK dose anything to get on this chanel haha

Speaking of risk, and reward. One summer I was meeting my friends in LI Sound off Rye NY,to go clamming.I had fun doing it until I heard some seals barking! Here I was,in chest high water, all churned up by our activities, digging for something I could buy in the store...I jumped back into my Boston Whaler center console boat, and didnt do it anymore( My friends really razzed me for my fears)...This was about 23 years ago. Now,this month,I saw a tagged great white going that far West in Long island sound.&.I'm glad I dont do clamming anymore!
Great videos as usual. Always strengthening my respect for the millions of years old, never had to evolve eating machines. I don't belong there. They do. Keep the water sharky baby. 😁
What good is a shark alarm when swimming between islands, without a support boat, practically in open water, in regions where there are known to be large white sharks?
It alarms the bozo's that it's dinner time, and they are gonna be supporting the continuation of a threatened species so that morons can be "one with nature" as a deluded self appointed hero who has overcome fear while valiantly proving that swimming in the ocean for days unprotected by cowardly cages, is all "mind over fear". Imagine how much money and time is spent trying to be a youtube hero. Gotta get those clicks and revenue. Gotta be an internet hero with a new identity to compensate for inadequacy or failure to recieve enough attention from strangers rivetted to their screens so they can avoid life's challenges.
It could be one of 2 books i was made aware of in comments and an email. Might not be a SAF book as i saw many of the photos i remember in those books. I will get those books then let you know
I assumed you meant mistaken identity of the shark. Many people, even trained biologists such as myself (BA Marine Biology Discovery Channel University), confuse the Great White with the very, very rare Madagascan dolphin. This dolphin species will often nip humans if they see you littering, or peeing in their twin blowholes (located over the eyes closely emulating the great white). Sadly, one of our fellow biologists disappeared. She was last seen feeding one of these rare dolphins tofu.
@frankdrebin: I hear the old man Madagascar dolphins will also nip a human for walking on their lawn. But they wave their fin fist at you and yell "get off my lawn" before they bite.

I was watching a video about orcas and how they make tunnels where they slip right onto the beach to grab a seal. It's pretty scary when you're standing in 3 feet of water up to your waist and you got a giant shark nibbling.
We are sooooo lucky Orcas do not bother us... They terrorize their pray before using it as a beach ball when it comes to seals... Quite the killers they are.
Ha ha ha .it always gits me why anyone .would won't two hand feed 🦈 for ya no .I've been sea fishing alot and seen some monster's and every time I see a big bull or a black tip.i git the weelys. Nothing personal but these stories are as spooky to me as when I was a kid camping out in the woods, and the oldest guy would sit around the campfire and tell us spooky stories about ghost and the one armed hook man that liked to kill little kids. A few years later, he told us about K.C. Jones. LOL 😂
I heard different explanations from a german marine biologist who gets into the water with a lot of different sharks regularly in the open sea (robert marc Lehmann) particularly on the live filmed surfer attack by a great white he said its a test bite and the shaking and biting comes from panic, because the shark there got stuck in the surfboard line.
It was probably a territorial attack. If it the one that happened during a live surfing event that I have seen, it was definitely territorial. A test bite is very gentle.
Love your work, in your opinion do you think a lot of these attacks especially when vicious ,have to do with territorial behavior? Keep up the excellent work.
Yes. When not mistaken id or an attempt to eat i usually put it in a territorial attack and a large number others call mistaken id fall into territorial with me
my soul would absolutely leave my body if i saw a 16 ft. great white in the water with me let alone on my shoulder 😳. also, i literally just watched something on cookie cutter sharks yesterday about how they used to mess with submarines back in the day to the point where they’d be out of commission and would have to be fixed. apparently, they couldn’t figure out what it was at first and thought it was the russians or germans but it was just sharks lol
Quite a few shark attacks are not recorded. Historically there has to be a loss of life, or many witnesses. I wonder just how many kayaks and swimmers missing at sea...are really shark attacks. What are the chances that most shark attacks or predatory stalking of boats, swimmers, surfers, spear fisherman are just not bloody enough to warrant a report. How many people know who to report an attack to? After an attack, who's gonna think about writing a report?
@@SharksHappen Check out the deluded space cadet and notorious self appointed "shark expert", known as "Ocean Ramsey" and her husband as they give lectures on swimming with sharks? I always wondered if there were any cookie cutter attacks on ppl. I guess so, And a submarine too? No fear there. I think I seen one show on during shark week where someone was attacked by a goblin shark but I could be mistaken. I've seen so many. Have you any info of a goblin shark attack on ppl?
I do have a Goblin but I believe it is considered provoked and I dont think anyone was hurt. I will cover one if I find it. I have another cookie cutter attack, so 3 I have come across so far.
@@SharksHappen I also wondered if you might include any whale or Dolphin attacks. I recently watched a Documentary on Shackeltons journey to the south pole and while trying their lifeboats to get through the pack ice there were killer whales swimming under and around them. Must have been curiosity because any one of them could destroy a small skiff at 221/2 feet. But they said the men were terrified. Interesting Documentary and great story of survival. Personally I think the scariest looking shark is a Mako , the toothing angles look terrifying. Lol.
I believe the same thing as you say, rough day at the office food was hard to get plus hunger, they will eat you even though they don't prefer ,smart animals also have feelings happy sad confused . So im terrified to fly and i love sharks(terrified by them as well). My husband just asked me which I would do.. Fly in a plane or go scuba diving I said scuba in 6" deep. I know they can come into the shallows but i think I'll take my chances in the water... I always say though that I would survive a plane crash(in the ocean) but be eaten by sharks...lol Love your channel! Im all caught up now..keep em coming! Btw...is there a p.o. box that fans can send you things to?
I am terrified of heights/flying. Flew the first to Vegas in 2016 and have flown 2 times since. Before the first flight i watched every plane crash video the flight channel has. Wanted to know everything that could go wrong before i flew. Could do a channel on them
I think humans cannot handle that we are IN the food chain, not on top of it when it comes to being out in nature without weaponry etc...and sea is nature in its purist form, we are not able to live in the water and there are predators in that sea, where we are to them, nothing but a floating meat platter, who will see us as a chicken wing, not even a delicious meal, but something to pass the time and snack on. And that is scary, so we like to comfort and delude ourselves that, 'oh that was a mistake, we made it angry' etc.... And of course, preservation activists and perhaps tourism will love to push the idea that there is no danger in the sea, but evidence suggests otherwise. Now thanks to technology we are witnessing more of these attacks, and they are truly, truly brutal. The death of Vladimir last week has really shaken me, and over the last week I've been watching shark videos on here. Hence finding your channel, which is amazing. I do love all animals, even predators, of course...but truly respecting nature means recognising we are a part of it, not gods of it, and these animals do not play by our rules, they are predators, end of story.
When they enter the woods or the water, lions domain or hanging where mountain lions do we take a big step down on that chain. Just because something is rare doesnt mean it cannot happen to you. So rare should not matter to those attacked, they should be telling others how it has altered their lives instead of how they are heading back into that water. Nobody looks out for others, not even victims in this pc ruined world
You are right they said that their eyes are more like ours than people think except designed for water so yes they can see very well and they have night vision if that doesn't say much I don't know what does. I watched a documentary where they were doing the autopsy of the Great White shark and showing the parts of everything and the eyes. I am not sure about the preference is between men and women all I know is that as far as the ocean goes with divers whether it's scientific or an oil rig, um surfers and just most work in water more men are involved with that even just swimming even though there are Olympic swimming and women do it the majority of people in the water are male . So I think that would definitely not be a accurate test statistically speaking with the difference there. I think that they should do studies to find out exactly what a shark would do when faced with a seal vs a person. They should do some cage diving with both to see how they react put seal in one cage and a person in another see what happens. That would definitely be a interesting documentary or scientific research. Anyway I don't know how true that documentary was that I saw or anything this is just all good guesses and or what I saw from the doc. or my opinion. about what I think. I'm not sure what to think about the judgement of a person that swims 30 miles between islands. In the ocean. At night.
Agree 100%
Love your channel you explain things so well and clear and you look at each attack as it’s own separate case please keep bringing us your stories of attacks
Nuts!
That's akin to walking 30 miles through the jungles of India with bloody lamb chops tied around your neck. The tiger that gets you would thank you, between bites, if it could.
Same thing I was thinking! That’s just asking for it😬😬😬
I must admit, your analogy of a "ketchup sandwich" really hit home for me.
Old man shark 😂. Dude love your sense of humor.
I would have said f*k the kayak 🤣

Terrifying.
Yes, I think it is actively or attempting to feed when they start up the tail. And just like you I think it is to get the best grip while doing so.
Additionally, sharks can never stop moving.
I wonder if the tail flicking is like the way cats flick their tails to initiate an attack.
Yes, the word animals tells me all I need to know. At times they will exhibit animal behavior and if it is a large shark, not good.
I completely agree with these motives, it is a mix of things. Anyone that claims sharks only bite humans as they think we are a seal is crazy, that is like saying sharks only eat seals and nothing else.
Yes, Manatees look much more like the Whites usual prey and they dont bother them, almost as rare as attacks on humans if not more.
Your description of a sharks feeding behavior was fascinating.
My daughter and I always sit down and enjoy your shows. Thank you!
Thank you for watching!!!
IDK.
Were you trying to pick the bottle up? Or you dove in and hit it with your hand? Cool story sir! Thank you for sharing
I think it’s more that it’s when a cut or graze is exposed to the air that we get the stinging sensation to our nerve endings, but also fortunately the adrenaline release really does curb the amount of pain felt initially
Shock helps, but knowing a shark is eating you alive is a horrible way to go
That makes sense being your entire surface area of your body is being stimulated by the water at the same time. Dulling other physical senses.
I'm Australian and love the beach. I've learned so much from you about shark behaviour and being prudent in the ocean. Thank you so very much ❤️

I loved the ketchup sandwich analogy.👍😅I love these videos... they always remind me of why I don't swim in the ocean.
That ketchup sandwich analogy and its lead up was the best explanation I've heard about sharks predating on us.
I totally agree with you “ketchup sandwich “ analogy. Makes perfect sense!
Man! yr a awesome story teller love the Chanel love the great white I'm glad that's the focus please keep the stories coming thanks.
What an awesome show!! I came across your channel late and now I went back to the beginning to consume as much as I can about shark attacks. I really appreciate the time and effort and the work you must do to make these videos, you're more of an expert than most!
Good one, your the first one I've heard talk about territorial attacks. I've felt this way in many attacks.
“We are a ketchup sandwich”😂😂
How completely unappetizing! That says a lot about a predator when they will eat a prey source that they find repugnant. These are really interesting, really informative videos! Thanks for taking the time to make them!
I just moved from Washington state to Savannah, GA, and am in the ocean more in the last three months than I ever have in my life.
I dont have many attacks in Ga. Just thought about that. Might have 1 currently I think.
I have no comment on sharks other than:
--don't splash;
--don't dive noisely off a boat;
--avoid swimming off boats near drop offs;
--don't get near "shark feeding" tours;
--don't spear fish (especially near a drop off in murky water);
--don't swim near seals;
--always assume sharks come to boats and wait for something to bite (which is what happens all too often);
--if you do swim in the ocean, wouldn't it be nice to have some kind of long weapon to shove into a circling shark who's eyeing you?
@@SharksHappen Georgia has very little coastline compared to most other states. SC has miles of beach as compared to Georgia.

I'm both fascinated and horrified by this scientific and horrific dissection on shark attack victims and back story. keep up the great work bro.

What good is a shark alarm when swimming between islands, without a support boat, practically in open water, in regions where there are known to be large white sharks?
It alarms the bozo's that it's dinner time, and they are gonna be supporting the continuation of a threatened species so that morons can be "one with nature" as a deluded self appointed hero who has overcome fear while valiantly proving that swimming in the ocean for days unprotected by cowardly cages, is all "mind over fear".
Yes, Mistaken ID by the shark

I heard different explanations from a german marine biologist who gets into the water with a lot of different sharks regularly in the open sea (robert marc Lehmann) particularly on the live filmed surfer attack by a great white he said its a test bite and the shaking and biting comes from panic, because the shark there got stuck in the surfboard line.
It was probably a territorial attack. If it the one that happened during a live surfing event that I have seen, it was definitely territorial. A test bite is very gentle.
What would you rather swim with a cookie cutter shark or a dozen pahranas?
Swimming in the night in sharks territory is incredible stupid. And later the shark is blamed.
Are you planning on going over the USS Indianapolis shark attacks or are you mainly going over not as well known stories only?
Yes I am. Going thru to find as many different sources so I can find the most factual story of it.
Hal, can you talk about the u usual things found in Sharks like license plates, cannon ball, knight in a suit of armor, bottles of wine.
Yes. When i talk of the tiger next i will
@@SharksHappen Check out the deluded space cadet and notorious self appointed "shark expert", known as "Ocean Ramsey" and her husband as they give lectures on swimming with sharks? Then watch her videos at youtube. If only she had reviewed more shark attack files, she'd realize, "...you can't assume anything with maneating robotic machines of death" (sharks).
Always watching, so interesting
Just like us I don't like salad bit if that's all there is and I'm cranky and it's easy to get in my fridge I guess it's what's for lunch untill I can get something else. Bit they don't say or think this on shark week or discovery channel somethings are not the same old mistaken identity blahblahblah.
Yes, it is a set of circumstances, like a perfect storm when they decide to eat us, I believe that 100 percent.
"These can be so gentle" love that line
Right? Their “gentle” is still the most terrifying thing I can imagine. 😂
Lol
So im terrified to fly and i love sharks(terrified by them as well).
My husband just asked me which I would do..
Fly in a plane or go scuba diving
I said scuba in 6" deep. I know they can come into the shallows but i think I'll take my chances in the water...
I always say though that I would survive a plane crash(in the ocean) but be eaten by sharks...lol
Love your channel!
Could do a channel on them
I will post the po box to the channel soon
Nobody looks out for others, not even victims in this pc ruined world
This is one of the MOST HONEST statements on sharks/shark attacks I’ve ever read! I’ve been saying this for decades!! It’s called humanism!
Hal, have you seen the video of the older woman hand feeding great whites off the back of a boat? Omg! She pets them on the snout too.
Thank you Hal.
I this channel 😘
I agree, it depends if they grab bony or fleshy. They chew through human like we chew through p@j sandwich.
Agreed
I feel like a ketchup sandwich many times in life. Lol
My daughter and I are getting shark tattoos the hammerhead shark it is such a nice tattoo
Cool. I don't like needles myself.
So good work ty for the video and God bless you 🙏 praise Christ Jesus always 🙏. 🌹💯
Farewll and adeui you fair spaish ladies farewell and adeui you ladies of spain for we are a sailin back home to boston and never will i see you ladies again ........ regards your nemesis 😄😄😄😄
As most sharks are afraid of orcas Would black and white swimwear and surfboards deter them?
No. They tried black and white stripe thinking sharks were afraid of sea snakes. An emergency blow up full size orca suit/Balloon might work tho.
I might mistake a bologna sandwich for a cold hamburger, but hey… A bologna sandwich is still a bologna sandwich.
