Total rubbish. And the actor Michael Gough plays is not a friend but the author
    George Simenon..

A series of adaptations which fails in advance due to the preposterous choice to take Maurice Denholm (I trust that I have the actor's name correct) as the voice of a Maigret so far advanced in years that he leaves the original Rupert Davies much too far in the rear. The additional optioning of Michael Gough to play his friend and interlocutor only compounds the flaws of the dramatisation.
Slow-paced, and lacking verve and energy, the two key elements all Simenon fans expect, and miss whenever the production fails to deliver the goods.
    Rating 3/10.
