On grand piano you have Joost van den Broek, who was member of Floor’s 1st group After Forever and also collaborates with Arjen Anthony Lucassen project Ayreon. Floor also guests on Ayreon. ❤️🤘🇦🇺
...and I guess he needed to mail his audio track due to the current travel restrictions and yes, he would be seen on the footage else for sure. This home-made video was probably made by her husband Hannes using semi-professional gear, which could also explain the asynchronicity from audio and video track at the cuts, which is difficult to handle, even if she did the recording in their barn, because if someone can do this in a seated position, it will be Floor.
@@MacZussie Could even be the original After Forever piano track ?? Just been listening to them all and her voice has definitely changed over the years, well we're going back 13 years at least.
@@clansome Check the last note of the final arpeggio - not the same...
She's is giving us fans Christmas gifts of her singing covers while she can't perform live. I can't wait to see what she does next.
on floors channel you can send in requests :) maybe your lucky that she picks yours
@@ridgundd7932 Maybe! :)
It's almost like a "Floor Jansen Advent Calendar". :-)
@@tifosinh Exactly. :)
Has she done O Holy Night ?
I am very sure she is singing this sitting down. She did the same many times live on stage, and more recently even on "How's the heart".
Get your eyes tested
@Dave Madigan Pretty sure the response was to the OP - since there was no reply to you personally ;)
Floors vocal cords are connected to her heart and tugging on ours
There may also be a connection to the eyes. Mine keep leaking.
I’ve listened to this song for years (I’m an 80s guy ) ...even in the After Forever version the emotion in this is so much more. You can really hear the longing and almost desperation in her voice that the lyrics convey. Her vocal control is the most impressive thing for me ...she can keep everything on pitch even at end of long runs with both high and low notes. And yes, Joost’s piano work is absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to hear what those 2 have put together for her solo album.
Floor said in one of her posts..She never mimes she always sings what you see..So its just good editing for the cameras .She can sing in any position as you can see from hows the heart acoustic she is sitting as well.
Oh, i do think she is singing, not miming. But there are at least 2 takes, one with the static and one with the moving camera. If the audio comes from one of those takes or from a third i don't know.
I'm guessing she records a version off-camera that is the main audio, but is also singing during video recording but that track is muted in the final product.
Not sure if she's recording from the rocking chair or not, but I have no doubt she could, and sound just as perfect. After all, we all saw her sing How's The Heart? from a seated position with no loss of her unlimited power.
She could, but she's definitely not. Her lips don't line up with what she's singing. It also doesn't have a live quality.
@@rome8180 could it be just that video montage is out of sync in some parts because of shifting between the double camera footage?🤔
👋🇮🇹🖖
@@flaviovergottini652 I agree, I don't think that this was a full production thing for Floor. More like just killing time between shows.
The perfect description: “Floor has the ability to caress a lyric or sound”.
So simple yet so complex.
The emotion evolves more each time I watch / listen to this.
The pianist is the amazingly talented Joost Van Den Broek. You can check him out in any Ayreon song. I specifically recommend Everybody Dies from the Ayreon universe concert.
It's like a vocal class about a vocal class 😍😍😍
As mentioned, Floor is a storyteller and fills with meaning and emotion every sound and every word. Great reaction.
Floor is the gift that keeps giving. Looking forward to your reaction. My bet would be that you'll still be a fangirl after this one. :-)
This performance is excellent in all ways. Beautiful setting and camerawork. Piano provided by her long time collaborator Joost van den Broek. Even I could notice the delightful use of vibrato there. But all'n'all I'm so biased, because Floor owns my weary Heart 💗. Wonderful analysis, thank you. ⛄👍
No matter were Floor is in her range the color and warmth of her voice is pleasant to my ear. Her talent is evident, but there are very talented singers that I can't always listen to, not the case with Floor.
Floor's interpretive skills are even greater than her incredible vocal ability. Her vocal skills are simply the tools used to tell a story, to evoke an emotional response. A masterful communicator. Always enjoy your insight.
Well ok, you have convinced me , that wasn’t exactly live recording but I do think that most of it was. I mean when Floors hands rise when she’s controlling her remarkable voice that’s a natural reaction , right ?, I know nothing about singing, i just love Floor Jansens voice. She is probably the greatest singer in the last .... 30 years?! I can’t think of anyone with such a versatile and powerful voice, live or in studio. Oh I must say that you have amazingly wonderful blue eyes 😊
and Floor has proven it again - she is the goddess of emotions. And - once again, she knew how to cover a song that is much closer to the lyrics than the original. She has recognized the potential of this piece, it is a beautiful ballad that - when performed as Floor did - can arouse great emotions.
But she is already covering this 20+ years..
@@JHX1 it has developed further in these 20 years...
@@rolfschonmuller8484 definitely..
She touches my heart. So beautiful and sensitive sung by Floor. Amazing
She chills us to the bone as well❣️❣️❣️
🤔 I think she is able to sing this sitting down. The acoustic version of how is the heart shows what she is capable of singing sitting down. Though on this one maybe your right. The pianist is Joost van Den Broek i believe they know each other since After for Ever.
Yep, its Joost. I believe he’s helped with all the covers she’s done, as well as new originally solo stuff (that hasn’t been released yet)
Joost was a part of AF.
I think so too, she isn't using even a fraction of her power. She often sits on the drum riser and sings during concerts. She knows how to maintain her posture perfectly while seated.
Hi Christi, the grand piano player is maestro Joost van den Broek, he has a degree in music and is a close friend of Floor. Besides musician, he is composer for several bands, for example Epica, and he was a member of Floor's former band After Forever.. Greetings from NL.
While Floor sings the angelic choir is silent and listens !
I've watched this video a few times over the last couple of days. It's fantastic. Floor is spectacular once again. I know that you will love it. Can't wait for your breakdown of the song.
The pianist is Joost van den Broek, he re-recorded the his piano track I guess in the Netherlands in his studio. It sounds very much like his Steinway from the studio. He was also the keyboarder of After Forever where both already recorded a piano version of the same song. He is also the live keyboarder of the Ayreon live shows and records the big names like Epica, Powerwolf, etc. Plus he is a really nice and haloful guy. I had the chance to meet him a few times and he‘s really down to earth and an amazing artist. Btw he is knighted by the dutch royals. A real knight in the piano 😉
Yes Joost is alzo an Amazing artist and composer. Just as Floor a sensitive person caring about the world and sharing the gift they have.
Great for this info.
Heart' s version was actually a cover , original was a group called I-Ten.. I love Floor's stripped back version. Thank you for a great and knowledgable reaction ..
Yup hate it when these covers do better than the original and no credit is given to the writers (even though they get the money) Joan Jett's 1982 cover of "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" written in 1975 by Alan Merrill for the Arrows. Then you have my favourite songwriter whose songs always are hits when covered Russ Ballard who wrote, "New York Groove", "You Can Do Magic", "Since You Been Gone", "I Surrender", "So You Win Again" and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You".
@@clansome Heart did give credit to I-Ten on the album, but this was obviously a cover of Hearts cover as she used Ann's vocal style when she recorded it.
@@Duskwind_ I agree, and it's very close to Anns performance 2016 at Royal Albert Hall - aged almost 70 then ♥
Interesting thought about whether she's recording from a seated position. My thought is that regardless, she is more than capable of singing exactly this powerfully from a seated position (as she'd shown in some live performances). Wonderful rendition of this song, and indeed she manages to make it a completely new song with a fresh perspective. Love it that she is so incredibly generous with her RUclips performances, to allow people to enjoy her talent during these times when live shows are curtailed. Great reaction, Christi. Yes, seriously, she IS a shapeshifter vocally. This is an apt description of her masterful use of her talent and artistry. Rock solid everywhere indeed! Also, CONGRATS again for the 50K!! So well deserved!
50K - great Crismas present for You - and analyse it this for us is a present to us 💝
This take is fantastic, the microphone settings is perfect. Not full with layers or effects (reverb/chorus etc.) Just clean !
What do you think it is that giving the echo in some parts? You can't record a voice in a studio without some effects. It would sound "dead".
@@darkiee69 Im not saying there are not effects, please read....im saying "full with layers or effects Just clean". And besides that, i dont agree with you. It depends what type of microphone and the place you record the sounds. Its a whole other discussion how, as engineer, you want the sound get into your computer. But you just need to agree, its very clean/minimum.
Never been a favorite song of mine.
Then I hear her sing.
Guess what I had stuck in my head for 3 days?
She is a gift.
Congratulations on 50k subs. Well deserved and now on to 100k! 🥳
It's recorded at floor's record studio at her home
Ohhh can’t wait! Thank thank you thank you🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💖💖💖🔥🔥🔥
Great choice Christi, as my Italian neighbors would say bravissimo !
Indeed, but we also change words along with gender, so it would be: bravissimA! (Accent on the first "i", the final "a" pronounced as in cAr)
Greetings from Italy!
👋🇮🇹🖖
Mea culpa, greetings from Croatia 👍!
Hannes and Floor are working at home with limited video equipment so they're doing multiple takes and splicing them together in post. That results in small sync issues showing up here and there. The important thing to understand is that she is singing on all takes, otherwise the syncing up process would get very tedious.
I think they're working with only one camera and using multiple takes.
The pianist is Joost Van Den Broek who she has worked with in her early band.
And when Floor and Joost were in After Forever they recorded a cover of this back then.
@@DrSkeff Yup, this is at least the third video of her singing "Alone" as there's also the cruise acoustic session as well.
@@DrSkeff Those versions are so close I had to go back to that AF track to see it's been dusted off o meet all those requests after Let It Go. The piano track just might be, as Joost gets the credit for music on the original post and arrangement is so very close, if not identical. The vocals are probably different enough, I think, to be from a dozen years later....It's definitely been Floor's "go-to" over the years.
@@npinjest7779 I actually think it might be the same. Floor's voice has certainly changed in the years since she did this with After Forever. 13 years takes its toll but she can STILL deliver an even better version.
Heard this striped-down version when Floor was still with After Forever, but damn! It's even better now! And Joost is definitely one of the best when it comes to keyboard and piano.
What impressed me the most is that she sounded a bit like Toni Braxton on low notes. Feels like her control on lower notes is getting better everyday. And oh, those highs! Pure chills everytime.
Great reaction!
Amazing ! THIS song is one of my very favorite songs, and I'm a huge Heart fan...from the 70's til Now. But FLOOR has totally deepened the desperation and passion with her incredible talent !!! Beautiful ❤️ ! Wonderful Reaction and breakdown ! Enjoyed this SO much !!!
Floor is again great with this song!
Greetings from the Netherlands
Liked it already. Love and appreciated both ladies so much.
can't wait .. to see and hear Your reaction ....
I know this is gonna be good, so first like is on the board 🙂
Spectacular as always! Kudos to Pianist: Joost Van Den Broek as well!
Brilliant as always Christi !!! I really like the production and the work you do with your videos.
Zoom with Floor don't forget ...
Take care
**just heard Floor may be doing a cover of "Still Loving You" Scorpions, should be Amazing !
Congratulations on reaching 50k subscribers, You deserve it. I'm sure you'll be celebrating 100k in no time.
Joost, Floor's After Forever bandmate, performs on the piano. He is currently working with Floor on a few solo numbers. Joost is also a staple on Ayreon rock operas.
I love your reaction you make everything so clear.
Thanks for that keep going.
And stay healthy Greeting from The Netherlands
Thank you for your genuine and accurate analysis you have done as long as I´ve been
watching your reacts. It is always a pleasure to watch you. Greetings from Finland.
Stay safe.
Floor is my very favorite Valkyrie! Much ❤❤❤!! 😃👍🏆
Christi your Channel ist the best in my opinion. Ive seen many. Keep on doing what you do. Greetings from Munich🙋♂️
Heart (Ann & Nancy Wilson) has been my favorite band for as long as I can remember until I heard this woman sing about a year and a half ago. I've heard the great Ann Wilson perform this song countless numbers of times. I prefer a more "rock-ish" version to this version Floor has done. This doesn't in any way take away from Floor's performance here. It is out of this world, crazy good and this is why Floor is now my favorite singer.
As I've said elsewhere: this cover makes me appreciate both Ann Wilson and Floor for entirely different things. The original version is (IMHO) also pretty dang impressive. Hearing Floor having to properly 'bring it' to make this awesome cover also shows this is not the easiest of songs.
Heart's version is NOT the original but just the best known.
@@clansome it isn't?!? Whoa! I learned something valuable on YT!! 😊👍 Thanks, will go look for the original now. Much appreciated.
The basic difference between this version and Heart's version is the fact that this version is stripped down to the piano and voice. Heart's version is much closer to the original, done is a power ballad style. Ann changed up some of the phrasing in the pre-chorus. Floor takes Ann's phrasing, and she and Joost just perform the most basic interpretation you could imagine. If you did it with acoustic guitar, I don't think you'd get the same effect or emotion from it. The arrangement is amazing, the performances are stunning, and I can't hear it too many times.
@@robertkennedy5414 What about Hearts 2016 Royal Albert Hall version? Well it's stripped down to piano/voice as well, and 2007 acoustic live was stripped down to acoustic guitar/vocals. The real difference is that in 2016 in the closest version Ann is almost 70 years old and still hits the notes with emotion and grace.
“She’s gonna do it, she’s gonna do it”
Lol. A classic moment!
Marko, you have to love him.
I thought the same thing about her chameleon voice. It seems like she always has all these new "colors" I haven't heard in her voice before
Nice. Geert/Netherlands
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Christi How are you. Congrats. I loved how she performed it ❤. The original song was by the band I-ten. She has told us fans on her RUclips Channel that she's a highly sensitive person. She is also a vocal technique nerd she admitted it. Her friend Joost is playing and he is also helping her out with her solo album.
Anytime i hear her sing, I break down crying. Every.single.time
What a wonderful SINGER ! Amazing !
hopefully I won't be too busy at work tomorrow and can catch this one as it happens
Her voice is a swiss army knife!!!!does it all
Please note that I am not here because of how beautiful Christi looks, not at all!
Oh, and I also appreciate the professional way you break down the songs. 🙃
🙏🏻❤️
great song, great reaction to a great cover
She has that capability to emulate almost any tone and level. It's like being born a frog, you can just jump far. You don't need to be taught how, you just "have it going on". Personally her finest output is her delivery of Nightwish especially the material written by Tuomas for her lead vocals.
As far as covers go, Floor's is now the new original, which actually was composed by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, who recorded it under the name i-Ten on their 1983 album Taking a Cold Look.
Heart released their version in 1987, i.e. 4 years later.
P.S. It's hard to tell for sure whether Floor did this sitting or not. I'd say she's capable of doing it sitting down like she did the acoustic version of "How's the Heart" at Planet Rock.
This big girl is using her voice like a bagpipe. She is really really good at it. Also her control is amazing. Classic voice training has also it's part in this. No shame in using your attributes, giving us so many amazing songs.
Congrats
Hi im from Indonesia, i love ur video reaction, stay healthy n success for ur channel 😊☺👋
loved the reaction, tnx. i'm sure she knows her vocals will be picked apart when she releases her covers, pretty brave to do it, hehe. new one on saturday, not in english, hope for a swedish one, hehe.
This basically follows the piano based version she did with her original band, After Forever. Joost van den Broek playing the beautiful piano part. He's writing songs with Floor for her solo album.
Hi Christie, some others suggested Oi Jouluyö (Oh Holy Night) with Raskasta Joulua 2016. Totally agree and a treat yor you to deconstruct.
Found the latest cover already ??? .. specialy for christmas ..Ave Maria !
She makes every song completely her own and in my view better than the original
It would be awesome to see you react to Floor's "Oi Jouluyö', it's a Christmas carol (Finnish "O Holy Night', I believe), so it would be perfect for December :) Also, she sang it while visibly pregnant, so it might be even more interesting to check out!
Here's the link, if anyone's interested: ruclips.net/video/ym1Wc5dmUYc/видео.html
So worth watching 👌
Credit where it's due, the song is originally from a band called I-Ten. Heart version was already a cover. ruclips.net/video/ONuYXeZdCNw/видео.html
Yes, but they would acknowledge Heart popularised it.
@@ChrisPage68 That's true. Another interesting fact is that it was written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly. You can search for their credits on wikipedia, it's HUGE.
I didn't know.. it was cool listening to the original, thanks for the link
also, I'd like to leave my favorite version someone might find it enjoyable too =P

You aught to look up "Ann Wilson Alone wails montage" its a collection of her live performances specifically at that belt. Floor does it well, but ill always have a spot in my heart for Ann's performance.
Yes, and Floors version here is a close adaption of Ann's 2016 performance at Royal Albert Hall - just the grace of the almost 70-year old Lady then is incomparable and unbeatable. Floors version is excellent, but Ann's grain, emotion and grace ... ♥
Yeah her hubby works the one camera and another one is fixed in place. And yep she sings seated like in Beste Zangers and Hows the Heart , to name two.
Poet and the Pendulum and While Your Lips Are Still Red to name two more 😁
I love floor
I'm going to say it again, but it is the linguist in her that keeps that emotional performance level so high because the delivery of each and every lyric is so DETAILED. She is so disciplined with every word, not just every note; English just being one of so many languages she can sing in (alongside her speaking language prowess: her Finnish improving all the time I'm sure, some German, I think some Spanish or Italian from school but don't know which it would be (?) Then English, Swedish from childhood, right. But as a classical singer, she will have sung in English, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian and French since singing the great arias by Mozart, Rossini, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner.
Sorry I'm whittering.
I mean. Classically trained singers spend all day making people cry at the opera as they listen to music in a language they often dont speak. Its hardly surprising Floor has taken us to new dimensions with a song we know well, she is such an articulate magical and natural storyteller when she sings. The rest of the world disappears.
Hallo, that’s a whole lot of folks 😊
Floor Jansen ❤❤❤
No one, no one could ever sing this song like Ann Wilson!!!!
Perhaps around xmas do Floor singing a Finnish song: Oi Jouluyö (Raskasta Joulua - Oi Jouluyö). A beautiful classical voice.
i think it is all done in her barn which is a rec studio for her and hubby ( they live in Sweden)
I don't know what people are talking about with the "soft vocals" on the last one. Maybe it's because I always listen with headphones, but it sounds great to me. I wonder if it's simply all the "saturation" on the vocals that people don't like? It gives it a slightly warmer and less piercing quality.
I'll say this, because I haven't seen it said anywhere else yet. Does anyone else want to see a duet with Ann and Floor? Even a mash-up wouldn't do it justice.
Her husband is an amazing musician, from the Powerful (capital P) band Sabaton. Guess he's the one behind the camera. I wonder what would he answer if I asked him"How is it like to live with someone who sings like she does?" I guess there would be no answer at all, just a big smile and a couple tears of joy.
She's singing live.
If you watch very closely, she's not singing live int the video. BUT WHO CARES!!!!
@@robertkennedy5414 If you watch closely you will see she is.
You can see some tension in her throat when she's singing....it's hard to see because she's singing so effortlessly. Now, whether they are using some mixing with another track would take someone with more knowledge than I. But I can see she is singing in the recording. Either way..holy hell. Floor is just so ....incredible.....
Congrats for the 50K!
PD: I think the voice at 7:24 was recorded separately as well :P
I am ready for Floor Jansen to cover Jinjer's Pisces! Floor in her Revamp record Wild Card did a little of that vocal style and was hoping Floor would have continued to use some more of that stuff when she isn't singing with Nightwish. She did a little of this in Yours is an Empty Hope with Nightwish. Doing a cover of Jinjer's Pisces would be very cool, especially since she would do her own take on that song.
Most singers sing what they are able to. Floor sings whatever she wants to and in the style she wants. The pianist and Floor both participated in Ayreon.
Damien Wilson is another great singer from the Ayreon family. Listen to And The Druids Turned To Stone from Ayreon Universe Live. Or Twisted Coil from The Electric Castle Live And Other Tales.
She is really good and she is a really sweet woman .
Nightwish Only three US cities in 2021 Lowell, MA 10-7-2021 Tickets on sale now!
if I were a vocal coach Floor would be my textbook.
Knowing floor a bit, the audio of this video recording would already be amazing enough...
And I think Joost is busy with Ayreon in the Netherlands and probably not allowed to travel to Sweden.
If I remember the pianist is/was Joost van den Broek? From Ayreon?
🤘🙂👍
Please more mariah carey reaction 😭
