Julia, wanted to tell u how kind you are in allowing us to watch all that you create.
Your generosity is very much appreciated and when I watch you create all the stress leaves my mind, even the music u hav chosen is soothing in this mad/hectic world you bring me peace and quiet if only for a short while. Thank you Julia x
Hi Donna, I am so glad you are enjoying my videos. Creating is very relaxing and helps with stress. Thanks for watching. Julia
Wonderful tutorial! I have to say the roasting pan for spray basting is absolutely brilliant! ❤
This might sound a bit odd, but THANK YOU for having natural fingernails!!
I love it! Thx for sharing all the great techniques!!
Landscape quilts is one of my most favorite things to do. I have a collection of landscape fabric that most would kill for. I have quite a few of them hanging in my house. I'll be teaching landscape quilted post cards in Mar/April at my local community clubhouse and really look forward to teaching again. I like the idea of using the disposable pan as a spray box. Love your desert scene and the extra shadow work and ground texture. It gives a much more natural look.
Phyllis 4466 Hi Phyllis what a wonderful idea, I wish I could come to one of your classes. Sending you hugs and loves from the U.K. xxxxxxxx Dorothy ❤️🙋🏻😘🌟
Hi Phyllis, This was so much fun to do and I am so excited that you love it too. Can I pick your brain? Do you add your pieces directly on the batting or do you use a foundation piece. I tend to make things up as I go along and I'm not sure if there's a better way. I'm with Dorothy- I would love to take your class:) Julia
stitchesbyjulia Hi Julia, I usually use a foundation piece with a fusible webbing on the back side of the major pieces. Then add machine embroidery, hand stitching, ephemera and other things to add to the piece. There really is no right or wrong way to fuse...spray adhesive, glue stick...whatever gives you the effect you want. I use fusible webbing to eliminate fraying when I want clean edges. After all the major pieces are ironed in place, I add the batting to the backside of the foundation piece and then the back piece goes behind the batting and I'll machine stitch down the major horizon lines. I try to match the bobbin color or use monofilament on the whole piece to the back of the quilt fabric. Adding the sleeve and binding is another whole story. You did a great job! One tip I can pass along is that the horizon line is always straight. (example: an ocean view) the foundation, batting and backing should be all the same size if you plan on adding a border. I'll send you a couple of pictures of my work if you wish as well as some wonderful landscape quilters. There are some fun patterns for sale that contain everything that the beginner might want to start with. I feel like working on a landscape. So much fun !
Phyllis 4466 Hi Phyllis, thank you so much for the tips! I would love to see pictures. You can post on my Facebook page- stitchesbyjulia, or tag me on instagram @stitchesbyjulia
I have learned so much from you. I love that you bring art to each project.
Amazing! The way you show step by step and the supplies used in your project is excellent! You are so talented. Thank you so much💕
Hi Julia! New subscriber here. I have always wanted to learn how to make pictorial quilts. "Drawing with Fabric" is how I've described pictorial quilts. Thanks for making this process feel more within the realm of possibility for me. Please, please continue to make more videos of how to make pictorial quilts.
Hi, I have more planned. I'm thinking of doing a series called "Stitch my Photo". I'm also really intrigued with drawing with fabric and thread. Thanks for watching. Julia
@@stitchesbyjulia Thanks for your reply Julia! I am thrilled to learn from you in your upcoming videos about pictorial quilts! Sending you Love and Light! Valerie J Garrison
Hi Julia, what a beautiful little quilt. It is very inspiring. Thank you for you wonderful design.
Thanks for watching Janet!
I've wanted to try this for so long! Please do more because I enjoyed it so much! Thank you!
Hi Millie, I am so glad you enjoyed this video. It was easier than I thought. Adding the little embellishments on top really adds depth and interest. I hope you give it a try! Julia
Arizona is one of the destinations my husband I head off to for our anniversary. We always enjoy out times spent there. I love what you did here. You are so talented. I was not sure how that lace would look at first but it turned out very nice.
Hi Susan, We are really enjoying our time in AZ. So much beauty!
@@stitchesbyjulia Phoenix has an architecturally amazing Library and there is free standing art all over the city. In March they have (well last time I was there.) a wonderful arts and crafts bazaar in one of the parks. It really is a beautiful state and is a work of God's art.
Love it!
Fun project. I use rubber fingers like post office finger tips work great.
That's such a great idea! Thanks for the tip. Julia
Oh my Goodness, Julia!!! This technique is SPLENDID! 🥰👏✨Thank you very much for sharing yet another brilliant creative innovation. Love the application of fabric components directly onto the batting - gives it a lovely trapunto-like effect. My parents spent their retirement years in Scottsdale and I remember well the exquisitely silky quality of the Arizona air in winter. Enjoy!
The air is wonderful here! So crisp and dry. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Julia
The things you come up with are awesome!
It is so nice tutorial with simpl , details and I loved your tutorial and wanted to make it. Thanks for sharing this video.
Thanks so much 😊
I love it. I made a wall hanging in 1995 when we got back from AZ. I’ll post it in an email. My quilt teacher didn’t think it was good but I loved it
Amazing tutorial and fabulous video thanks for sharing your beautiful ideas
Thank you, Julia.. I really like this! I get so much inspiration from your sewing techniques.
I live in Arizona and this is perfect. Can’t wait to try it.
Hi Rita, You have a beautiful state! I'm so glad you are finding inspiration from my videos. Happy sewing! Julia
Clear and concise !!!
So nice this would be pretty in the center of a quilt
Sherry Vanderpool My thoughts too
You should try heat away stabilizer! No wetting, just iron it off. Sew Easy! Love this quilt and your process.
Thank you so much for the tip! I just looked it up and I think it will work. It looks very similar to Solvy except it disappears with heat. I have tried a stabilizer that is heat away, brush away. It was a nightmare. I couldn't get the little bits away from the stitches. I will give your recommendation a try. Thanks so much for sharing. Julia
Very beautiful.
Love thread painting.... Quilting, & fabric. Love your different techniques, and designs.
Thank you for sharing ❤️💗
Love, love, love your style and techniques! Thank you for the inspiration!
Watching you make this makes me want to give landscape quilt a try. Thanks for the inspiration !
I really like your projects. You've got a great imagination. It's very nice. Enjoy your vacation.
Oh Julia, it is beautiful! I love going to Arizona, my sister lives there...
Hi, AZ is such a beautiful place and so different from anywhere I have ever been. So much inspiration! Thanks for watching. Julia
I’m definitely going to try this project! I have just about all the supplies plus I have a window full of live cactus which I love to care for. This will look perfect hanging on the wall. Fingers crossed I can do as beautiful a job as you.
We ladies are so critical of ourselves . I'm sure yours will be just as beautiful ☺️
Hi Karen, I hope you give it a try! It's so much fun. Adding the little embellishments to the top really helps add depth. Thank you so much for watching! Julia
Glad to know that you are enjoying our state! Plan a meet up!! Thanks for the tutorial!
Hi Julia, I love your work
Wonderful!
Hi Julia, your little quilt turned out really great, I just love it! Thanks for the great ideas!!
All I can say - Beautiful!
As I was watching you create this wall hanging, my first thought was it would make a beautiful pillow.
Have a wonderful, warm time in Arizona.
Awesome Julia! You are the queen of appliqué and free motion. This turned out beautiful. I enjoyed watching you make this one. Hugs!
You are so talented! Love how you used the sulky for the shrub! Brilliant!
So cool! You made it look so easy to take it one little step at a time. Thank you as always with sharing your experience. Peace.
So beautiful, Julia ! Anyone would love to have something like that.Great work, thanks for sharing.

Lovely and nice quick project! Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing this...you are a real inspiration.
Wonderful video!
thats fantastic! well done......I have to give fmq another try I think....it takes practice for sure but love this!
Hi, FM takes practice but is so worth it! I hope you give it another try!
Hi Julia what a wonderful quilt and thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your pattern, the landscape and finished quilt looks stunning. I have an oil painting in our lounge at home of an oil painting of Mount Teton which my late husband bought when he was on a climbing trip many years ago. After watching your fabulous tutorial I thought I might have a go at recreating the painting in a much simpler way and hanging it next to the painting (if it turns out ok😀 as I am not at all creatively gifted). I have never used invisible thread and was really impressed on how good it looks. Julia I am currently using your denim bag tutorials to make small bags from denim jeans - Elizabeth and Catherine are going to man a stall later in the year to raise money for their school - they will be helping to sew these when they come to stay - they love using my very ancient Sizzix machine😀. As always Julia a fantastic vlog, you really cheer me up and inspire me, thank you. Send you and your family lots of love as always xxxxxxxx Dorothy ❤️🙋🏻😘🌟
Hi Dorothy, Recreating the oil painting into a art quilt would is such a great idea! I found that this little one was easy. Fabric is so forgiving. If you don't like something, add something on to it:) I think it is wonderful that you have your granddaughters involved in sewing. They are lucky to have you! Also working in a booth raising money for their school is such great experience. Wish them well. Have a great week. Julia
Zexcellent showing on how to do it thank you
Gorgeous Julia!! I'm thinking a beach theme art quilt...🤗
Good tip about using the wrong side of the fabric- I've found that to be helpful in matching fabrics when mending vintage quilts.
That's such a great tip when trying to match vintage fabrics. Thanks for sharing, Julia
How pretty! I took a few pictures on our road trips and this technique would be fun to try for a change from painting. Love your style, thanks for the inspiration.
Absolutely beautiful. I loved my time in Scottsdale a few years ago. Hope you are keeping well.
Hi Michelle, We are going back again this winter! I love AZ. We know things will be different this year but we plan on doing lots of hiking on the wonderful trails that the parks have to offer. It's a great way to explore but still social distance. Stay safe and thanks for taking the time to comment:) Julia
OMG just love it, you lead me to the tools I need to put my dog’s face on a wall hanging. You are so talented.
Fabulous!!!
Beautiful!!
I love it 🥰
How beautiful Julia...and as always learned so much as you explained the different techniques 👍🏼I really want to get some of the adhesive spray.
Beautiful
Julia, I love this! I am also interested in art quilting and may just use your template to get an idea how to do it. Thank you as always!
Hi Rebecca, I hope you give it a go! It was easier than I thought. Adding the embellishments (lace and fiber) really helped bring it together. Happy sewing, Julia
Beautiful art quilt!
Love your work
Thanks 🌸
Very effective! TFS
oh that's lovely. I've always wanted to make one, but don't have the confidence.
Give it a try! It's pretty easy when you break it into steps. Happy creating, Julia
Amazing
Beautiful work❤️
This was lovely !
This is awesome
Do you prewash all your fabrics? A fantastic tutorial for beginners! thank you
Hi Jan, I usually do not pre-wash unless it is something that will be washed a lot. I use to embellish sweatshirts for craft shows, I would prewash the sweatshirt and all the fabric going into them. On some of the art quilts, I do not wash until afterwards because I like the look of the texture once it is washed. Hope this makes sense. Happy sewing, Julia
Спасибо, очень красиво!
Muhteşem!
Love this. My only suggestion to please be a bit more clear on what you are using as tools, particularly the pigment used to color fabrics, thanks!
Hi Julia, the link isn’t working :-(. Thank you for all you do to help us grow and learn artistically! Tracey from Tucson! I hope you are enjoying Arizona. Super weather today! It is working under the “Follow” category and then the link to your website...so I got it! Ty!
Hi Tracey, Ugh! I think I finally got it fixed. Thanks for the feedback and your patience🙂

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Merci d'avance. Bonne soirée
Do you have a stitch regulator on your machine?
No, I’ve never used one. Keeping your speed steady helps with even stitches.
Thanks
What size needle are you using?
HI, I almost always use a size 14 sharp.
@@stitchesbyjulia Thank you!
Hi your pdf download is not working,
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I think I fixed it. Please let me know if it still isn’t working.
You could charge a good amount for these
Landscape quilts
You go too fast for newbies
Literally nothing about AZ is beautiful... >.> This hell is awful
But seriously though, you mentioned you edge stitched the pieces down, I assume thats to hold them in place while you are quilting the topstitching but does the fabric not fray past your edge-stitch?
Love it!
