    Perhaps a background to lay the fabrics on would be helpful to get the piece to the machine.❤

    Can you appligue the top of piece? Should pieces have been laid on a backing like muslin or batting?

    What if you don't want the raw edge? How would you sew it?

    • @LadyAstriannaSewing
      @LadyAstriannaSewing  3 года назад +3

      Before sewing the strips together, fold the raw edge over to the back of the strip, 1/8" to 1/4", and sew it down. Or, if you're comfortable, you can just press them down very well, and be sure to catch this "seam allowance" when you sew the strips together. You will need to clip the seam allowance a few times in the soft curves to get them to lay flat. For the sharper mountains, clip once in each upward and downward peak. It can be a little tricky. I hope this helps!

    Can you adjust this to make it a nice size couch throw?

    • @LadyAstriannaSewing
      @LadyAstriannaSewing  2 года назад +4

      Absolutely! Once you know how big you want the throw to be, you can either add more strips to make a more complex image or make the strips wider to accommodate the size. And of course make the strips longer. Couch throws (or lap quilts) tend to be about 40 to 45 inches square, so if you're using quilting cotton you would need to make strips that are the full width of the fabric. I hope this helps, and good luck with your quilting adventure!

      @@LadyAstriannaSewing can I ask one more question? The one I want to make is based off of a picture of a farm field, so it has a fence in it. Just like two horizontal white lines going the length of it in the middle and then posts, but, (gosh I wish I could show you the picture) I’m wondering how I could do this without appliqué. The rest of it is pretty straightforward with just sky and various greens.
