I absolutely love your works! You are definetly my favourite artist. I also love having your videos in the background when I draw, your voice is very calming ❤
What is this happy, warm and calm vibe? Ow man, your art just calming my mind. Definitely my anti-stress art, it's probably my lucky day to find your channel
One ability I always wanted to have like naturally was being able to look at things and put them into an image made by myself. That’s the reason I’m always watching to talented people such as yourself to feel the passion that comes when drawing/sketching/painting. Good job my friend.
I love the blue lines - it softens the outline very nicely and works well with the soft watercolors. Always enjoy watching your videos - they’re very inspiring
Love the color contrast in this one and I never thought to change the outline of an illistration to bring up the colors more and concentrate it more on the light and shadows, thank you for the tip!! Also the characters really look like they have a personality and a story behind them!! Keep it up with this amazing work!
Amazing video as always - really reassuring to hear what you had to say on sketching too much making your lines stiff, definitely something I need to be more mindful of ! :)
Awesome as always Matt! The characters look so natural, it reminds me of my dad since my little brother born recently and he carries him like that haha
I'm more at ease with backgrounds than characters so I have the same problem, trying to find a style I like to render people. This illustration is really nice and I can't wait to see the next ones!
Loved it! I love how you are experimenting on adding characters into backgrounds now :D the colors look absolutely stunning as always! Cant wait for more :D
I have also found black outlines to be a little too strong for watercolor paintings so I tried using the Copic Multiliner in Sepia. It works really well if you want the watercolors to stand out more than the lines. I've found that the sepia lines complemented lighter colors instead of overpowering them. When using darker watercolors, the lines tend to somewhat blend in with the watercolors and isn't very visible. :))) I do think that the sepia lines give the overall picture a brighter/warmer feel. Looking forward to seeing what improvements these experiments will bring you!!! Best of inspirations!!!
I've also been experimenting with colour outlines and I really like to outline things with a darker shade of the colour I'm planning to use for the object / character I'm painting. I first tried the colour pigma microns and they work fine, but there aren't enough colours available here in Europe. Maybe there are more colours in Japan? The next thing I tried are the Faber Castell Pitt brush pens and they work really well. There are 60 colours, so I'm having less problems matching the colours. I like to draw small though and for some pieces the brush lines are a touch too thick, because it's a hard brush nib and there is a limit to how thin the line can be. I think I found the perfect solution now: Derwent inktense blocks! They dry waterproof and there are 72 colours. You can also mix any other colour too and it behaves almost like watercolour. It is a bit more opaque though and dries waterproof. It rewets on a palette, so you can reuse previous mixes and the brushes don't get mucked up so easily. For inking I just mix up a little bit and brush it onto a dip pen. Less comfortable to use than a fountain pen and it works better on hot press with my nibs, but I can get any colour and use any nib I like!
I was playing with bulletproof Noodler's black ink -- I find diluting it a little bit and using with fountain pens gives a much softer look than the big bold black lines that u wanted to avoid. Looking forward to the use of Pitt brush pens !!
Mateusz Urbanowicz Sounds great! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do with them! I wish they were as fine as the Pentel pocket brush! They make soft brush pens too, but so far I couldn't find them anywhere, not even in Germany.
This is a great video. I love seeing how you want to grow and change as an artists. Something you might want to try is to paint your overlay first and then add the lines. You could use a ballpoint after the paint is dry and have a wide range of line weights. Thanks for the inspiration and work you put into this channel.
First of all i Apologize for my english. Then, thank you very much, Grazie mille, for your video and for your awesome/ beautiful ART!! I love Tokyo and Japan and especially Tokyo and Japan Transportation( for me the best in the world). And Toden Arakawa line is one of my fav line of Tokyo!! Again, thank you very much for this beautiful gift!! Greetings from Italy
Humbly, may i suggest the Copic liners with sepia ink, or Daniel Smith Walnut ink: magically the lines are dark enough for inference of shadow, and light enough to feel conveyance of light that often refracts around object.... I love your art
I talk about it in the video :) It's hard to buy Noodler's ink in Japan so I don't really know the shades - they can vary greatly from what you see in the Internet and depending on the paper so it's better to buy samples and test them.
Hello mateusz ! I had the same problem with the too visible black ink. So i observed animation and i noticed that they are often brown or red (Tekkon kinkurīto). I tested a good brand mark for fountain pen. it's "Calli Calligraphy Ink". they are waterproof of course. Just a thing to know. change the color of the line, change the feeling of watercolor. For exemple, i painted a grey close to a red line and my grey become a green (for the eyes). But it's really interesting to paint with colored ink because you give more importance to the color. Hope i could help you. Good continuation. See you !
Good day sir, I'm really a big fan of your artworks!! If you dont mind, I just want to know that kind of artstyle and the watercolor brand you're using
Awesome video . Might I ask you what kind of fountain pen you used in this video for the inking. Honestly, i am looking for some fountain pen to sketch outside. Thank a lot.
Great work as always. I want to ask though, what color specifically did you use for the skin tone of the man with the baby? Whenever I tried to color in people, they either turned out too yellow or too red or too white :(
Beautiful piece, I love it. I had a question, I've seen that to make the shadows in certain cases you layer the darker color on top of your wash, in other cases you completely separate the shadow from the subject's color. How do you decide when to do which? Do you prefer a technique over the other? As always, thank you for sharing your work. :)
Basically I try to do without layering the paint if I do not have to do it. It's harder to predict the resulting colors when layering and I like to have more control over the result. I Layer paint mostly when I first do the large shadow and then paint details on top of that gradient shadow.
Hi Mat! I am a big fan of all of your works and RUclips videos. Would you be willing to make a brush maintenance video even if it is just available on Patreon?
hahah I'm not really great at this, did not research it well enough yet. I usually use synthetic brushes which when used properly (cleaned with water, dried horizontally etc.) don't seem to require much maintenance. I will have to look more into it soon :)
Your videos are like daily morning meditation to me. Your illustrations have so much life in them and so many stories. I absolutely enjoy your work!
I absolutely love your works! You are definetly my favourite artist. I also love having your videos in the background when I draw, your voice is very calming ❤
Oh this is so nice to see. I took this tram nearly everyday for two years when I did my grad studies at Waseda. It’s so nostalgic! ☺️

I came back for another look at how effortlessly you captured the sunlight of the day.
Your patience and work fascinate me everytime

I love your style of painting so much. I've been trying to emulate the same style and colors for my art but it's just not the same.
Amazing video as always - really reassuring to hear what you had to say on sketching too much making your lines stiff, definitely something I need to be more mindful of ! :)
How pleasing! I like your style a lot!
Thanks for sharing
It is a rest for my eyes. Really. Nice.
Your videos are very chilling and beautiful! You always inspire me! You made me love watercolors!

I think i should start my own illustration painting...your artworks are great inspiration...thannks a zillion ^^
Amazing as always, you're my inspiration. Great idea the blue ink, I love the final result!!
I like the progress in your work!!! Always faithful to pencil and paper. Just improved a litle bit in digital :D

Yes !!! I have been doing the same with Inktense and they r so much fun !!
I'm now testing the Faber Castell Pitt brush pens to use them in my next project actually :)

This is amazing! I love it so much. Your watercolor skills are amazing
You should try a light brown ink! It would give a softer effect. it’s not as over powering as a black, and is warmer than a blue.
I'm new and I've been following and watching your videosss, I swear you'll be biggg! 😍 I love pastels
Always a pleasure watching these vids!
Lovely as always.

Beautiful piece of art.
Hej, przypadkowo trafiłem na Twój filmik bo szukałem info na temat atramentu który używasz. Odwiedziłem Twoją stronę - świetne prace! 👍👍👍
Gorgeous painting!!!

I still have to try the sepia ones. I tried the grey ones but the lines were too light.
Looks beautiful as always. 👍
Incredible 😍
Amazing! I think I’m going to start using procreate now too so I can put more details on paper without too much eraser marks 😁👍
Amazing
I know how you feel about doing corrections endlessly. I too have that bad habit and felt frustrated every time.
I speak Spanish and I love your English, is cute
Nice English, Japan, Polish actent. And amazing draw. Pozdrowienia z kraju kwitnącej cebuli 😎
I like your works very much. I would like paint and draw similiar. I´m 50 years old but I think that never is too late if I want to learn.
Go for it!
Beautiful, as always !! any reason why u chose blue ink and could u suggest an equivalent blue in Noodler's brand. Thanks.
