Don't mind the band-aid on my neck I am just clumsy! I just returned from overseas and need to get back to filming this week! I wanted to put this quick little video together talking about why whatever it is you like using is the right tool for the job!
Yeah man, use what works for you. I switched to a fractal FM9 for my videos (nearly 150 this year!), and it’s game changer. Main reason is it doesn’t blast the voice mic like an amp used to. And I can get every tone I want and am happy with it. Keep groovin’
LOL< I still have a Mustang V.3 new in the box from when they first came out. I used it twice. Needless to say, I didn't like it and I absolutely can not stand Kemper or Axe. I found him online cause he did a Sean Costello Mustang patch video which I loved. Sean was local to me and a buddy, so I was surprised to see someone on the otherside of the world geeking out on his amazing tone he had. And Shane really nailed the patch. Rest Easy Sean! Step 2 would be getting a Fender Tonemaster FR-10 or FR-12 for live performance. I always liked the modeler/profilers for recorded tones, but they felt bad in band situations, until I got an FR-10. Just having the active eq in a guitarist friendly Treble Mid Bass amp configuration has made a world of difference, and it sounds great with every modeler or analog DI amp replacement I've paired it with.
Great vid, since were talking digital. I think it would make a great difference if you had a digital sound measuring device on the wall. A visual idea of how loud you are playing would certainly help,me visualize the sound better.

My favourite modelling amplifier is my 2003 Line 6 Duoverb 2x12 Combo... It really nails the models and has a two amp at once option... It really rocks with a very authentic valve emulation.
Along with my tube amps, I still have my 2011 Fender Mustang IV Digital amp.. and it is still my go to amp. It sounds great and it’s incredibly versatile.
Glad you're back into Kemper, and Profiling again. 👍 Screen wise, your cellphone screen using the new Kemper Rig Manager APP works great with the Player model, plus it's touch screen editing/saving, etc on a high definition colour screen.

I recently picked up a unpowered Kemper Kab and will install a 200 Icepower module - being Class D, it should work the same way as the Powered Kabinet. Good call, mate!
Good one Shane. Yeah brother - what works, that's what counts. I'm a valve amp sort of person but discovered the Quilter Super-block USA. I was pretty blown away with the sound and LOVE the portability. I still play my valve amps to - it doesn't have to be one or the other.
I'm looking forward to hearing it. I'm still considering a Fender tonemaster, but just wish they'd made the attenuation foot switchable. Would've been more useful to have like a gain channel, but then it wouldn't have looked as traditional for them.
I bought a used Fender Princeton chorus solid state amplifier and it sounds great! Less than half of the tube version. It takes pedals really good and the clean channel is amazing.
Cool video. I’ve had a similar experience recently with the Blackstar Amped 2. The sounds it produces and features just stuck in my head. Only difference is I haven’t bought it yet lol.
Kemper makes a good product. I purchased a Fractal fm3 a couple of years ago and enjoy the freedom of playing without being sent to the woodshed. Look forward to hearing some of your amp chain creations.
Shane, you do a lot of reviews and studio work and a quality modeling probably make sense to support those needs. There is nothing like a real amp for live playing but there is a place for a modeling amp and using it for your purpose makes sense. I appreciate your honest and balanced approach. Some of the best players out there only use those Kemper amps. So enjoy learning it and using it where it makes sense in your studio. Take Care
I’ve been experimenting with real preamps and pedals going into software amps (Softube Marshall Plexi and Amplitube 5). Everytime I take a break and then come back, I can’t believe how good, and how practical this workflow is for recording.
Last month I also bought a kemper. I heard the Meulendijk profiles en heard the german kemper channel. Great demo. Now I am addicted after 40 years of tubeamps.
The Player is meant as a “pedalboard” amp, using the effects pedals you already have. The Kemper head (I have one myself) is the best all round solution imo. No other hardware platform updates and adds to as regularly as Kemper.
If it's good enough for robert fripp's live tone, it's good enough for anyone. It's from a few years back, but I'm pretty sure he's using it on Live in Mexico City
So in the previous video you did of the live… you said you really didn’t like the rig manager which put you off and the main thing which puts you off an amp unit is your lack of being able to travel out of country… was it just the price of this that made you take the hit on all the negatives you previously gave for not considering this again after the Rack version you once had? Just confused about what prompted the Uturn? I’m guessing this is night and day better than say Boss Katana Gen 3, Line 6 Catalyst and others? Were you not tempted by a Line 6 Helix?
Good one mate, reckon you're being very humble re your playing; it's great. I recently had a significant career move/celebration and had promised myself a Kemper head when it was all done. In the end I finished up sticking with Amplitube 5 and instead buying myself a Fender Clapton signature model to pair with a LP Epiphone/Gibson Custom Shop '59 (awesome guitars BTW, super happy). I reckon these days a lot of people are also playing into headphones and maintaining the domestic bliss. Would be interested in videos where you're looking at your Kemper vs amp modelling alternatives. Most of the comparisons I've seen have compared profiling. Amplitube seems a poverty-pack alternative, but it enables people like myself to get a reasonable idea of a huge number of components in the chain without having to physically buy every one. The industry must hate the digital solutions, but I'm keen to see how well this represents Pro-level alternatives like the Kemper
I enjoy gigging with a monitor speaker or even just in ears just as much as I do playing with a real amp . I do use analog dirt pedals though I think that's important.
Never profiled an amp but love the Kemper. Think the Player is still great for those who don’t want to spend 1800 for the toaster. I did the opposite. Have had my Kemper for 4 years and just bought the Marshall DSL-40! But I’ll never get rid of the Kemper. Curious what albums you’ve recorded ?
Digital modelers are awesome for someone who wants to dabble with stuff or if you don't know exactly what you want. Kemper is pretty high quality and great for touring musicians who don't want to take their expensive stuff on the road.
Hmm. Kudos for diving into the digital miasma without fear, I remember the old reviews of the Kemper when it came out. Too hard for us non tech heads , I get my best tone when I can smell the curtains singeing from the heat coming from the el84s in my little old Peavey classic 30.
I've got a Fractal FM9 with the latest firmware update and it rocks. Never played a Kemper but they also get great reviews. There really is no reason to avoid pro level amp modelers.
Thank you. I hate to sound Too old, but I still dig the pre-company sale Line 6 xt/ xt3/ xt3Live. 🤷🏼♂️. My COSM sounds from Roland VS 1880 are good, also. Have used live and recording with easy success 😊. (My AC 30TB ‘63RI UK-made valve amp even likes the sound of itself in the Line6😊…). I use the Line 6 HX Stomp into a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 then a Fender Bassbreaker 12” cab. Lots of great tone and convenience. If it doesn’t sound good, then I practice and somehow it sounds a lot better 🙂 !
Have you tried Helix - they are also still supporting a 9 year old flagship with regular updates and additions - some killer tones from some of the modelled amps (for example Dumbles, and lots more).
Lots of Kemper sellers going back to buy a Kemper lately... :) I'm holding on to mine so far as nothing else replicates the amp feel and tones among other profilers.
I sold my Blackstar Artist 15, even though I liked it, but I wasn't satisfied with the clean channel, and the sound of my dirt pedals wasn't what I was looking for. Recently, I bought a Boss Katana 100 MKII, and even though it's not perfect, I like the sound of my gain pedals through it, and it's very versatile for cleans and edge of breakup tones that work great with my pedalboard. And now they've released a new version of the Katana... 😂 It's fine. 😊

If you want to protect your ears while playing at high volumes, then use some sort of protection. If you don't, when in your home studio, or on stage, you WILL be sorry. And, once the damage is done, and the tinnitus (and hearing loss) begins, there's no remedy, it's permanent damage that'll only get worse.
Yo Shane if it makes you feel better I'm still using the line 6 M13 and Line 6 pod pro rackmount unit original. like u2 the edge had on his old rig', plus boss ME 50 and a few pedals to throw in the mix, I'm still loving the tones man, I feel like a Dinosaur Jnr. It works for me on the Ac30, fender 2z12 and a couple of old laneys. My next guitar related investment is Acreage with no neighbours 🤣🤣🤣
Shane, you are a pro level player and that Kemper is a pro level tool. Me? I get away with my cheap gear as I play at home, don't gig and only jam with backing tracks. (As a low level player, why waste good players' time?)
I still wanted him to make keyboard again. Virus access rise back then gave big name synth company such a scare they decided to actually add feature in keyboard.
Congrats on on the purchase!! Is your main goal to re-profile your current amp collection or is it try a find new amps from others to use? It would be cool to hear different amps played through the Kemper. 😎🎸🎸🎸
Thanks, mate! it's been great clearing out some old stuff to make room for this thing. I plan on re-profiling my current amps with and without my overdrive pedals so I can get that tone ready to go. I have my old profiles but I am going to re-do them coming up :)
I've been using Fender modeling amps since you first reviewed them. The Mustang amp models were great. I now play a Fender GTX and a Marshall Code. Playing in a cover these modelers cover all the bases.
You’ve gone to the dark side 😆I’ve owned both tube and modeling over the years, I’ve got 2 AC 30s and a katana Artist mk 2 I only play at home for fun and play my Katana 90% of time and now they’ve come out with the Gen 3 I will have to upgrade 🤷🏻♂️😆
It's just different. I think the X has some great advantages when it comes to certain situations but it's also reliant on the amps so it's a bit of give and take with each unit. The captor is great for pedal demos where I need the real amp front-end. This is a quick way to get my sound without needing everything else.
Yeah, but it's technically not a modelling amp, as it's not modelling anything specific. I know it's a distinction without a difference, but it's a distinction nonetheless. ✌️
@@eugenehavens Yes it might have an analog power section but as far as I know all of the different presets are all still going through a DSP first. Take the "Brown" preset for an example. I think we all know what that is trying to be. Just because it has an analog output power section does not mean that it can't be a modeling amp.
No need to wait. We can start having those arguments now. Check out the Cycfi XR pickups. They're supposed to be full frequency response pickups that you shape with EQ controls to sound like any pickup but they haven't caught on. The more popular option is pickup emulator vsts and pedals that use EQ to make your pickups sound like a built in pickup or a profile you provide.
Ppl are such snobs. Bad sounds pretty much don't exist anymore. But ppl would rather harp on tube amps, or solid state or modeling or an effects processor or the whole 'amp on the floor kinda thing...they'd all rather complain aboutnthat amd be too good for it, vs writing a good riff. Wanna know why guitar has taken a back seat in pop culture? It's cuz the elitism. Hendrix never watched RUclips videos while commenting about his saddles not being made out of brass. Or worrying about his signal path. Or that his fretboard "needs a drink". Guitarists are the biggest bltches in music and it's been that way for 20 years, hence guitar being out of the mainstream, despite more guitars and gear being built today, than ever before in the history of guitar. The snobbery and elitist perfectionist bs is why that's the case. Jimmy Page and gilmour just played the single amp they owned. They'd be lucky to change strings once a year when they where teenagers. It's beyond ridiculous how childish the whole thing is. I like cool gear, but I'm in it to play and write.the majority are in it for vanity, and cool points and to gain envy, while not even playing at all
Bad sounds _do_ exist. I've seen bands using silent stages, where they use in-ears, and the audience hears the PA speakers. Not a real amp in sight. These have invariably sounded poor. Also, a band a few years ago in which the guitarist used a Roland Blues Cube. Not a good sound. And one with a Fender Blues Junior, that sounded awful.
Don't mind the band-aid on my neck I am just clumsy! I just returned from overseas and need to get back to filming this week! I wanted to put this quick little video together talking about why whatever it is you like using is the right tool for the job!

You'll improve immensely if you play with better players, and if you're honest with them about your skills, you'll be fine.
Kempers kick ass. They sound great. Probably the best if not close to it.
What is your tech channel called ?
I still wanted him to make keyboard again.
Virus access rise back then gave big name synth company such a scare they decided to actually add feature in keyboard.
Fantastic start to a video Shane 😂😂😂…. So did I by the way 😁👍
Congratulations. I’m sure you’ll get great ton3s out of it, however I wonder if YT compression will let us truly experience it.
What's your tech channel called? I love my amps but I also love my modeler an profiler.
...and here I was thinking you got an old Johnson Millennium 150
Congrats on on the purchase!! Is your main goal to re-profile your current amp collection or is it try a find new amps from others to use? It would be cool to hear different amps played through the Kemper. 😎🎸🎸🎸
Thanks, mate! it's been great clearing out some old stuff to make room for this thing. I plan on re-profiling my current amps with and without my overdrive pedals so I can get that tone ready to go. I have my old profiles but I am going to re-do them coming up :)
I have a Tube amp and an HRHR with a modeler. Love both, I use them when I need them.
Do you mean FRFR? 🤔
It also makes an excellent air fryer 🙌
I own valve and digital. Both have their place.
the toaster!
He’s going through something. How much did you spend on that space box?
I've been using Fender modeling amps since you first reviewed them. The Mustang amp models were great. I now play a Fender GTX and a Marshall Code. Playing in a cover these modelers cover all the bases.
It looks like a ham radio from the 60's.
When Shane hefted it up, I thought it's the ZT Lunchbox but in different colour.
Looks like a Fallout 4 prop. I bought a programmable cheap multiFX just for the ease of use.
Congratulations on good deal mate ! I still think they look like arc welders 😆but, I'm sure it's great !
have you played with the Tone X pedal?
I'm so glad this video is NOT about the Boss Katana MK3. I was fooled for a second though.
I am looking to find an Alan Turing modelling amp, any chance on a good deal? 🤣
Why not tonex?
You’ve gone to the dark side 😆I’ve owned both tube and modeling over the years, I’ve got 2 AC 30s and a katana Artist mk 2 I only play at home for fun and play my Katana 90% of time and now they’ve come out with the Gen 3 I will have to upgrade 🤷🏻♂️😆
You like this more than the CaptorX?
It's just different. I think the X has some great advantages when it comes to certain situations but it's also reliant on the amps so it's a bit of give and take with each unit. The captor is great for pedal demos where I need the real amp front-end. This is a quick way to get my sound without needing everything else.
Shane is buying all the amps lately....
I forgot to mention that I sold a bunch of stuff recently to make room for this. :-)
I hope you didn’t sell that V!!
We have Two Notes for our amps. Toasters are good for bread though.
Thanks Shane 😊
Good for you!
That s not exactly The typical digital modelling amp....It s a profiler....Nice piece of kit anyway ;)
The next month i gonna buy a USA Peavey Delta Blues...
Digital amps 🥱
Thank GOD! I was expecting the Boss Katana Gen 3 as I am sure about 10 thousand RUclips videos will flood my notifications at any moment now.
Yeah, but it's technically not a modelling amp, as it's not modelling anything specific. I know it's a distinction without a difference, but it's a distinction nonetheless. ✌️
@@castleanthrax1833 I can see your point and it's a valid one as well. Just because I consider it one does not make me correct.
Katana is an all analog amp with digital effects. Reviewers often advertise it's a modeler and get people confused.
@@eugenehavens Yes it might have an analog power section but as far as I know all of the different presets are all still going through a DSP first. Take the "Brown" preset for an example. I think we all know what that is trying to be. Just because it has an analog output power section does not mean that it can't be a modeling amp.
@@eugenehavensIs there a digital amp that amplifies digitally? Afaik they all have an analog power section, and create dist/od/mod/rev digitally.
Next on the modeling horizon: modeling pickups. Then we'll have a whole new classification of things to get into pointless circular arguments over.
@@ViviSectia I know there's a few things already. Hell they had the VG Strats 15+ years ago.
Time flies...... I remember when Kemper was the new guy.
Heheh, good pick but I think you might have been happier with the Quad Cortex.
That is over $1300 more expensive than what I paid for this. :)
@@intheblues Oh well then. Good choice and nothing beats Kemper IMHO for that amp-in-the-room sound.
Kemper and Helix are prime examples how to release a great platform that can last for ages
Who cares?
Use what you like! You're a great player and would sound fantastic on a $100 guitar and amp!
This is akin to one of those relationships where the people continually break up and get back together.
