Many years ago I took my very young family to Ulverston on a day out in the car and we went to the Sun Inn for lunch. Sitting at the next table to us were two men deep in conversation. It later transpired that one was a bank manager and one the local barber. “Shame about George getting away (dying) the other day” said the bank manager, “Aye, I’ve known him all my life you know, grew up together, great friends” said the barber. “Yes, we’ll we have all got to go at some point I suppose” said the bank manager. “ Aye, I suppose so”, said the barber nodding wisely, “Thing is I completely finished his trim before I realised he had died” Both my wife and I liberally sprayed our drinks over the table and the kids as we just went into uncontrollable laughter! I was in such a state that I was struggling to breathe and just when I was getting it together the barber leaned over to me and said, completely straight-faced, “That’s ten bobs worth of work I’m never going to get paid for!” I nearly died! The lady behind the bar had to lend us a towel to mop up the tears of laughter….
It’s heart warming to see this channel. What a top guy Gareth is. Gareth, what is your favourite food to taste? Favourite drink? Favourite dessert? Nice to see where you and the good lady first met. I think you should do a review on peppered ham.
Garath lovely drive .Thanks for taking us out and sharing your experiences and showing us around ! That fish lunch looked just fab we want some ! Glad you found your good lady these things are ment to be ! So heart warming 💓 Lyndax
Nice to see Ulverston !! Great Video.. Me and the wife used to go Ulverston to that chippy whenever we could. We used to sit in the pay and display car park round the back and stink the car out with that wonderful smell of fresh fish , chips, salt, vinegar and a hint of grease.. Same time span as well.. about 99 .. Nice people and place.. Wonderful Times..
Nothing better than a nice fish & chips best fried quickly using fresh clean oil to produce a good crispy batter. YUM! I live in Sussex & it was lovely to see a well-kept Lake District town & with so few people in it. Great gardening country..is NW England. All the best Gareth.
I was born in barrow in furness, my dad got promotion in fire brigade and we moved to kendal, im now living in co kerry ireland. Gareth watch all your videos you doing a great job thanks soo much x
Great video, we visit Ulverston a few times a year from the south coast so it’s great to see your video and reminisce. Chippy Bank is awesome, will be up that way in a couple of months, will keep an eye out for you
Ulverston looks lovely. We are seeing so many shops closing everywhere now, lets hope it an survive well. I do buy local as much as I can but basics have to be from supermarkets.
Great video Gareth nice to see your old stomping ground where you met a good lady. The fish and chips superb. Didn't you do a video of the dickensian market last Christmas. Keep up the good work pal👍
Hope you don't mind, Gareth, I've just shared this to my Facebook page as I have friends with Ulverston connections who I'm sure will enjoy it. It's a lovely little town with so much going for it, not least that fish & chip shop & many great pubs with several of them having live music in the evenings. I play with a jazz band at the Hope & Anchor last Thursday every month, (love to see you there!) and last night I was with a band at the Rose & Crown, almost opposite the fish shop. Spot on !
Thanks for the trip down memory lane used to go in the market and the local fish and chips yummy the pie shops are great very friendly people up north 😀 great re
Nice content with history video and pics will always be remembered with changing times once it's gone its gone forever, Happy times and have a great holiday, look forward too seeing more to come in France Cheers
Hi Gareth great video interesting story of how you met you're good lady. You haven't looked back since! I love your shirt by the way with you're best saying on it . All the best.
I know Ulverston. Gorgeous place. Used to go to the festivals at Conishead Priory, that's worth a visit they have a peace cafe and there's great walks through the woods to Morecambe Bay.
What a lovely place to live is Ulverston and thank you for making such a thoroughly interesting video. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos - you are such an interesting character and a good man 😎👍😎
Hi Gareth, nice to see you videoing around Ulverston. Where the coronation hall is now , there used to be The County Hotel but it burnt down at the turn of the 1900's. Where the main bus stop is was the rose gardens and it was all green and absolutelystunning. I have some pics of inside the hotel, the billiard room and some of the shops that used to be here. Really fab video I love living in ulverston
And where the rose gardens are now is where the Palladium cinema used to stand. I particularly remember it because it only had one floor - no balcony or ‘upstairs’. Yes, Ulverston used to have two cinemas in the days before televisions were so widely watched.
Looks like a lovely little town! Get used to people noticing you mate, your channel is gonna be huge! Such a delight getting these daily uploads, thank you for the content!
Hi Gareth great content mate. I’m from Liverpool but cover the lakes with work. I normally stay at the Abbey House hotel in Barrow. Great place to stay.
Cheers Gareth great review mate. Fish & chips looked great. I’ve just come home to the Cotswolds from up north Cumbria, Scotland etc and I noticed it’s all haddock no cod , it’s the other way round where we live . Thanks buddy see you soon 👍❤️
Great content Gareth, Ulverston looks very similar to a place we used to holiday back in the day, a Scottish village named Dalbeattie in Dumfries & Galloway, but also similar to many other villages in Scotland and I suspect anywhere in the British isles, it’s what makes us all special in the big wide world! I’ll be having a fish supper tonight too, amazing how you influence folk with the feelgood factor mate!👍
Loving the channel Gareth…You live in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. So who wouldn’t want to see more videos about the Lakes…looking forward to the next instalment
I used to work for Mercedes Benz based in Bolton but one of the dealerships that was part of our group was in Ulverston. Every year one of us had to volunteer to go out to one of the dealerships to help out with the internal audit. For some reason no one apart from me wanted to go to Ulverston. Their loss, the Lakes are the most amazing place in the country if you ask me. I even adopted a Staffy from a rescue up there. Love the place.
Good morning from sunny Staffordshire. You live in a lovely part of the country, a quant town you have! Confession; l have fish, chips and mushy peas every Friday without fail, good old British snap!
that was interesting social history remembering your past its important. i still today get fish and chips and have them on the beach in Folkestone just as I did 30 odd years ago as a child with my grandparents.
Another great video and nice insight into how you met your good lady!! Just an idea, maybe do a comparison video between shopping local and at a supermarkets, that should accommodate the majority… anyway 👍🏼
I’ve been to Ulverston before and I recognize that spot , I’ll try that Chippie when I’m down near Grange over Sands in the Caravan Park in couple of Weeks .
I love your channel = I love your accent = Everything is so different to my way of life = I have travelled all around the world- I love the UK.Keep up the good work.
Hi Gareth, thanks for another brill update.thanks for taking us out and about again. Ulverston looks very charming and beautiful. Your fish supper looked just as good. Mushy peas as well!. Lol. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.

Its so nice to see you actually out of your kitchen lol! I have to say Ulverston looks a beautiful place, very historic and unspoilt. Really enjoyed the tour and a bit of how you and your good lady met too! For me, fish n chips is now an occasional treat as it's now so expensive - yours looked lovely though, cheers Gareth.

Been for a few nights out in Ulverston back in the late 90's myself, I remember a pub that had a small hatch that served beer through it, think it was the Farmers.

Fascinating how you met your wife. A few minutes later and you'd have missed her. And then what? The next 24 years changed forever. You're a lucky man to be where you were!! Excellent video. Really enjoyed it. Cheers, man!
Lovely video. Ulverston looks fantastic. The price of fish and chips is going up, though. When I go to get fish and chips I take my own salt and Bramwells malt vinegar, because the chippy either puts too much on or not enough.

Ulverston looks grand m8. I live in a village next to a historic market Town, Wallingford, and they look similar. Fish and chips looked great as well plus the mushy peas of course.
Great stream Gareth. Looks an amazing place. Laurel and Hardy are legends. "That's another fine mess you got me in" Great Fish and Chip shop and the market looked quaint, very quirky. The Haddock, chips and mushy peas looked gorgeous, crispy batter and the chips looked amazing. Very true about local businesses, but to do your excellent streams it works well showing us all products accessible to us all. I do enjoy your trips out and about 👍🏻👍🏻😁
Eh up Gazza hows tha doin. Amazing video. Always wanted to visit Ulverston. Thank you for sharing. Looks like a really nice place. Fish n chips looked good. I'm sure there's a message somewhere in your vlogs telling me to get back to the uk. Have a wonderful weekend

When I saw Ulverstone Ithought you were in Ulverstone, Tasmania - Australia lol. Anyway price good, fish, chips and peas, pretty good, bit of quality in there. Fresh cooked. 9 from me.
Thank you for a lovely visit to Ulverston. I enjoy your videos, but as I'm in New York City I am cut off from really good food. Speaking of Local - there is one shop in New York City where I get real Cumberland Sausages - Myers of Keswick. Please visit more villages in Cumbria and show off the marvelous foods. Again thanks for your great shows!
Always nice to have a nostalgic look at events in your past isn't it - take a moment to take stock. Like yourself, mine seems to centre around knowing where the decent boozers are in a town ha ha! Heading off to Lyme Regis myself for a bit of filming and some fish and chips myself tomorrow - bet it costs more than £9 down there!!

Wish I lived somewhere like that!
Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it Kev cheers
