    This isn’t about JJ winning the battle against Darnold. It’s about JJ hitting all the boxes O’Connell had for him. So he can succeed when he hits the field.

      Absolutely agree. If JJ does not check off those boxes before game 1 Sam Darnold should start. But as a Michigan fan who has been following JJ since high-school I would not be surprised if most of those boxes are checked off. I'm looking forward to see both quarterbacks in preseason games.

      I got lucky and had McCarthy 1B to Daniels 1A pre-draft. But McCarthy was my number 1 with a bullet for the Vikings as he is a much better fit for KOC’s offense than Daniels would have been.
      Actually had Maye tied with Penix for 4/5 behind Williams and above Nix.
      I value the mental game a lot more than most content creators and national media. I want a guy that makes plays under pressure, protects the football, with plus arm talent and athleticism.
      McCarthy’s intangibles were off the charts, with excellent arm talent and athleticism. I didn’t care about the lack of passing volume in the second half of games as Michigan’s defense was lights out. So, after McCarthy built up leads, they could just run. He threw just as much as the other prospects in the first half. Michigan’s running game wasn’t special in efficiency, just in volume - due to McCarthy and the defense. Whole thing was much ado about nothing.
      Whereas Maye reminds me a lot of Darnold and Wilson. Excellent arm but lacking in mental toughness and decision making under pressure. The bust potential was very high in my opinion.
      Needless to say, I lost my shit at the PD draft party when we drafted McCarthy.
      So far, my evaluation isn’t looking too bad. Guess I’ll know in a couple of years.
      But he hasn’t disappointed. Grinding between mini-camp and TC and coming out mentally and physically prepared to win the job is exactly what I expected from him. He pretty much epitomizes the type of guy I want leading the Vikings franchise. If he can stay healthy, I think McCarthy can become the next truly elite NFL QB.

    • @Tmacademia
      @Tmacademia 2 месяца назад

      @@intrepidfool my thoughts exactly. The mental game is so incredibly important to win at the highest level. That's where Cousins was lacking. JJ seems to be extremely likeable and a guy that's confident in his abilities. His personality doesn't seem forced. He says the right things, but it really feels authentic. That's huge for a leader.
      Plus he's got the mobility and the arm.
      I believe he's gonna be a top 10 QB in the NFL. Maybe higher

    • @tylerreining1061
      @tylerreining1061 2 месяца назад

      @@intrepidfool Here was another selfish thought I had for McCarthy on the Vikings. He is very young in a position that demands knowledge and understanding of NFL offensive schemes. Watching Kirk Cousins in Netflix's Quarterback, I imagined JJ emulating Kirko's preparation for gameday/season. While Kirk doesn't have JJ's talent, he makes up for it with tireless determination. Sadly (for me), Kirk took the money and ran. But...if he would've stayed on discount for 2 years in pursuit of a SB while JJ watches, we(Vikings) would have a 23 year old QB fully prepared for a dynasty run!
      Guys like Penix, Daniels, and Nix are 23-24 years old right now. Still don't get the Atlanta draft😕

  • @intrepidfool
    @intrepidfool 2 месяца назад +1

    Most of Darnold’s big plays are during WR drills or 7s where Jets is unstoppable. He hasn’t done as much in 11s, even though about 50% of those snaps are against the twos. And has really struggled in RZ and two minute against the ones.
    JJ has done more with less in the 11s despite playing against the ones 50% of the time. And has played well in two minute and been absolute fire in RZ against the twos.
    Right now, KOC has it slanted to give Darnold every opportunity to look better. He has his finger on the scale as he loves some retread QBs - maybe a bias being a former failed QB himself. If he lets the two compete fairly and split time with the first team offense, look out. It won’t even be close at that point and KOC won’t have any choice but to start McCarthy or watch his team implode.

    I know that the media is going to hound KOC about the QB1 spot especially if Darnold doesn't look special. I would wish that they'd just let him do his job. At the end of the summer KOC will make the decision and it'll be what he and the staff thinks is best. Don't push because there's no need for it.

    I'm not a Vikings fan AT ALL! ##ONEPRIDE
    But, I've been saying since the draft that everyone is WAY WAY, it's underestimating JJ Mccarthy! This kid has only lost 1 game in the last 2 college football seasons! I get it, it's college and not the NFL, but JJ is a strait up DOG and I think he will make the transition fairly easily. As a life long Lions fan, I hope the Vikings keep leaning on Darnold because Darnold has been in the NFL for years and hasn't done anything substantial at all. If Minnesota goes with Darnold, they are just giving the NFC North competition to Detroit and GB. Chicago has no chance this year and Minnesota is overlooking their starting QB because he's a rookie

    • @intrepidfool
      @intrepidfool 2 месяца назад

      Darnold has been that way his entire NFL career. Nobody broke him. He just isn’t that guy. Seeing ghosts and turning over the ball are just who he is. Some people stay level under pressure and seem superhuman. Some get elevated but can manage to channel the adrenaline positively and still perform. While some crumble. Darnold is the last type.
      McCarthy is the first type.

      Don’t let fear drive you. The narrative that QBs have to sit to be good is unsubstantiated. There is no best way. It is mostly about the player and the situation.
      If Cousins was still here, or someone better like an HOF type guy, the rookie sits. But Darnold isn’t that. He is just a backup / bridge guy to compete with. If McCarthy wins the job, start him. Simple.
