It sounded great! Great playing. Matt, Corey and the rest of the band would be proud. Have you had a chance to watch any of Trivium's live streams of their European dates lately on Twitch? Matt's username is kiichichaosreigns.
Harvester Of Tone Alive Or Just Breathing it's a good album and It's a piece of history of metalcore but there is no comparison...Ascendancy it's more AMAZING! The mix of creativity, intellect and emotionality is almost perfect...there is everything that makes Metal..."metal"! Technique, melodies, screams, growls, clean parts, good lyrics, good production, good concept, excellent balance between all instruments, excellent drum parts, excellent riffs, excellent solos, good balance between bass guitar and drum, excellent growls and screams, good clean parts, good melodies but not too "pop"...AMAZING!
mercuryfaith I mostly agree. My only issue is calling Trivium Metalcore. Their guitar work is complexed and much more traditional. Not really influenced by At the Gates like most early 2000s Metalcore. Matt's vocals are the only real reason they got lumped in with the genre. Killswitch are Metalcore pioneers. Alive or Just Breathing is the quintessential Metalcore album. It's a masterpiece. Ascendancy is one of the best metal albums ever. Matt was only 18 when he recorded it. Definitely my personal favourite from Trivium. I remember buying it the day it was released in 2005. I don't understand the flack Trivium get, when bands with half the talent are revered.
Harvester Of Tone I don't call Trivium Metalcore...I call Ascendancy Metalcore because it's.....it's a metalcore album! Of course they have changed style but the first two records are Metalcore and yes, Killswitch are pioneers but they can't compete with Ascendancy or Shogun...however the problem with fanaticism for Trivium comes from two factors: 1) emotional factor for those who grew up with them (I can't criticize Linkin Park for example) 2) ear too atrophied to understand that if you want to idolize someone ... that someone is STEVEN WILSON!
Love this album. I don't listen to a ton of Trivium anymore but this was one of the albums that helped me open my mind to modern music / music with harsh vocals when I was a little kid mostly listening to dad music. I also only played drums (no guitar yet) when this came out and Travis inspired me to get a double bass pedal. Nice job!
Ethan Henry yep it was cool. Silence in the Snow was decent too. It's all fine in my book besides Vengeance Falls and In Waves, just not the kind of thing I listen to all the time anymore.
Even though I didn't use Ascendancy as inspiration for my playing, I can't deny how Trivium had a hand in how I come up with dual guitar harmonies. You did this medley justice, Hunter.
Yes! This is such a great introduction to how guitar harmonies work in both riff and lead settings. Definitely influences how I compose harmonies as well :)
Dude I swear Pull Harder On The Strings On Your Martyr is so good. I mean I absolutely adore the main riff + chorus is catchy af. I was on a Trivium show last week and to me personally it was definitely in the top 3 songs of the night. So good live!!! PULL! HAR... ah you know how it goes.
I heard triviums ascenency and got into metal, bought a Jackson King v , light to flies was the first song I learnt and I didnt realise that these songs where hard to play until a friend that had been playing years turned up and said how can you play these after less than a year of playing...but i practiced at least 6 hours a day for months sometimes 12 or more hours on weekends lol ..then 2008revolved around learning shogun amd working lol ..changrd my life
:) well the 15 year old self of me just rocked out to this awesome video. This is great to see and I've been watching this channel for over 8 months now. Keep everything going because it's a great channel.
Before I clicked on the video I actually thought this was about learning the SONG Ascendancy. That song alone will help you play any song ever lol! This has always been my go to album for practicing all the techniques I like to use - which reminds me... I need to start practicing again! Way too sloppy these days...
+Zaronion That's me, I'm not really into those kind of vocals and metal stuff. I just prefer music that is more on the rock spectrum. BUT I have to admit Trivium's riffs are killers.
I don't mind good screaming... lol. killer riffs and badass drumming are always a given with trivium though. I like when there Is a little variety in the screaming though and matt doesn't give much variety, at least not on ascendancy. he comes across as monotone
It's strange, whenever I hear EMGs (or other active pickups) in a song or demo I mostly like them but whenever I've used them myself I didn't like them much. They have an interesting sound/feel to me. They sound great in this video though haha. Love that ESP. Props for learning all these riffs!
I definitely got a lot of encouragement toward progress on my speed and riffing ability through this album. One of the greatest metal albums to ever be written, in my opinion. Good stuff!
This is my favourite guitar-related RUclips channel, not just because your reviews are really well made, but mainly because I like your playing style. Every review contains a nice track, really enjoyable to listen to. And this compilation would be something to play along as well Thank you!
Great work man. I definitely like the idea of you continuing with this concept, in addition to review videos. I know it can be hard to continuously create the same format. This is a great way to increase views and to get old subscribers hyped up for your new content. Build it and they will come! Keep it up.
lmlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Meaning: I have not enough fingers to make an "lml" sign that actually does justice to the heaviness of this riffs.
Someone should really do this concept of video for other genres such a rock, blues, funk, etc... I feel it’d be especially beneficial to those just getting into playing so they can gain inspiration and some kind of direction when learning how to play and discovering other styles
Although I spotted some mistakes, this was very nice dude, keep on rocking! I'm just sad, that you left out the best, which are in my opinion the pre-chorus of like light to flies withthe harmonization, which builds up so much tension, and the second verse riff and Breakdown of declaration, of which you only played parts. GJ anyway!
Ayy. One of my favourite albums. Never did put the effort into learning the song propwrly though. First few songs I've been learning most of the way through have come from shogun though. Will have to go and do ascendancy now as well. Ty fam
Please do more of these. Love Trivium, and I love someone doing the work for me to find the riffs that are bad ass that I can start learning. In flames next? Then Killswitch. Get on it!
ive had the worst luck lately, I have two guitars, One i got a new pick up (only has one and that one dies) and then i tried putting the new pickup in (seymour duncan EMTY) and gave myself a second degree burn trying solder it myself and never figured out how to do it. Then someone droped my SG and it has a bolt on neck so the wood got all messed up where the bolts are. And before all that my cheap little orange combo blew its speaker!! And im only 15 and my job at dairy queen makes it very hard to get new gear....Sorry just needed to vent a bit! Have a nice day.
This literally took forever lol
Great Job on the video my guy. Really appreciate your videos and you as a person, you seem like a really cool guy
Worth it. Like seeing your numbers creep up too.
It sounded great! Great playing. Matt, Corey and the rest of the band would be proud. Have you had a chance to watch any of Trivium's live streams of their European dates lately on Twitch? Matt's username is kiichichaosreigns.
Agufish We appreciate the hard work. Very nice of you!!
Love the video but what is your go to tuning?
Probably the best metalcore album ever!
mercuryfaith Alive or Just Breathing?

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but I love the poison by bfmv lol
Like light to the flies aka The Downpicking Clinic
Modern metal Master of Puppets xD
My hand goes nulb when i play it
Old comment but actually so true, really helped me to get my down picking tight
Love this album. Have you heard the new album? That might get you back into them.
Ethan Henry yep it was cool. Silence in the Snow was decent too. It's all fine in my book besides Vengeance Falls and In Waves, just not the kind of thing I listen to all the time anymore.

Trivium and BFMV have the best guitar harmonies.
@@lewisbulled6764 And A7X
Esp+emg+trivium=epicness
Nice work man, next is Shogun medley mate ;)
IsaacLaw Guitar I don’t think he is capable of playing anything from Shogun
SpartanChalo13 he at least has a 7 string, so let's give him a chance
SpartanChalo13 you can play the rythm guitar.
+ SpartanChalo13 hahahaha wtf
I would go bananas for a Shogun medley.
One of the main riffs is just ATG's blinded by fear changed a little, but it works.
Of course I know, it goes like "BOAT! RUDDER! STRANGE! MOUNTAIN!"
Like Light To The Flies opened my eyes to metal music, I absolutely adore that riff till this day
The Sims 2
Yes! One of the best metal albums ever!
xD
Great audio quality and great guitar choice. It's insane that Matt and Corey wrote these songs when they were teens.
Ascendancy is one of my all time favourite albums
Agufish, playing riffs from favorite album, from my favorite band, on the exact same guitar that I own, YES PLEASE!
can't forget struggling to play pull harder on the strings of your martyr, great video man
You’ve got a pretty beastly right hand there sir. Your down picking and chug work is always spot on.
Like Light to the Flies is a masterpiece. Takes me back to my bus riding high school days.
Dude, your rhythm playing is top tier. seriously. You play a lot, and you play well, and it shows.
I heard triviums ascenency and got into metal, bought a Jackson King v , light to flies was the first song I learnt and I didnt realise that these songs where hard to play until a friend that had been playing years turned up and said how can you play these after less than a year of playing...but i practiced at least 6 hours a day for months sometimes 12 or more hours on weekends lol ..then 2008revolved around learning shogun amd working lol ..changrd my life
Can you do a video on the MT15 PRS amp? It’s Mark Tremonti’s signature amp
Tristan Prange I would really like to see him do a review on that thing.
Damn lol I was just listening to the decieved and this pops up
:) well the 15 year old self of me just rocked out to this awesome video. This is great to see and I've been watching this channel for over 8 months now. Keep everything going because it's a great channel.

Trivium sucks and Matt doesn't know how to write sick riffs
Said no sane person ever lol
I understand not liking Trivium but their riffs are straight fire man
Almost had me going until I read the end hahaha
+Zaronion That's me, I'm not really into those kind of vocals and metal stuff. I just prefer music that is more on the rock spectrum. BUT I have to admit Trivium's riffs are killers.

Yeh got me. I already started brainstorming my rage response before I got to the end 😂👏🙌
Ascendancy is my most favorite song from Trivium!
Ascendancy is the best song in this album imo in terms of riffage, that bridge is fucking tasty
It's strange, whenever I hear EMGs (or other active pickups) in a song or demo I mostly like them but whenever I've used them myself I didn't like them much. They have an interesting sound/feel to me. They sound great in this video though haha. Love that ESP. Props for learning all these riffs!
0:56 will always be my favorite riff
Rain is such a fucking badass song! Nothing makes you move more in a mosh pit
1:09 That riff is unbelievably underrated. One of Trivium's best guitar riffs of all time.
I definitely got a lot of encouragement toward progress on my speed and riffing ability through this album. One of the greatest metal albums to ever be written, in my opinion. Good stuff!
Please make this a series. It's a more original idea than just gear demos - which are highly appreciated though
This is my favourite guitar-related RUclips channel, not just because your reviews are really well made, but mainly because I like your playing style. Every review contains a nice track, really enjoyable to listen to. And this compilation would be something to play along as well Thank you!
What a rad idea for a series!
I saw orbs entering your fingers possessing you and taking over! Dope!
I love ascendency so much seeing Trivium this April in the UK
Your Light To The Flies looks effortless
Wow your right hand riffing is damn good!!! Nice
You're a badass player Hunter! I love the riffs you write too. Especially the Brent Hinds amp riff. 🤟🤟

I love Trivium, and this is great showing the top riffs from the tracks. We all know where this should go next, BRING FORTH THE SHOGUN!
What a brilliant album and awesome playing! Did it great justice dude
lmlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Meaning: I have not enough fingers to make an "lml" sign that actually does justice to the heaviness of this riffs.
Watching this made me realise that Ascendancy is probably my favourite album ever
One of my favorite metal albums by far
One of my favourite albums ever. Wish you did the rhythm guitar behind the solo in Dying In Your Arms. Love the chord progression there.
best album of Trivium
Someone should really do this concept of video for other genres such a rock, blues, funk, etc... I feel it’d be especially beneficial to those just getting into playing so they can gain inspiration and some kind of direction when learning how to play and discovering other styles
Kickass vid more trivium medleys?
Lots of good tracks. Becoming The Dragon is still my favorite Trivium tune. I miss the way they used to sound.
I love Ascendancy, I love the Eclipse, and I love your channel. This was a real treat. Thanks Hunter!
The Crusade album would be cool to do a medley of too ;) 👀 so many good riffs
You need to do a video on what riffs you should learn from At the Gates (Gothenburg Style Melodeath).
Man Matt heafy's riffs suck and you make them sound even worse ( don't worry just kidding I love you both )👋👋
HOLY HELL DUDE YOU GOT IT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do some more videos like this with the other Trivium albums.
This was awesome, I hope you do some more of these in the future, helps diversify your channel :)
The man can jam right the F*** out !!!! Hell yeah bro great job..... 🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘
Awesome playing 👍
thanks for putting your amp setup!
This is so appropriate for me now. You know. April 10th. L’Usine in Geneva. Meet and greet ticket.
Although I spotted some mistakes, this was very nice dude, keep on rocking! This made me want to check out trivium (which I haven't yet)
