DIVE Studios The way he describe the song sounds like the message in Suga’s song Shadow
1. Clearly she stated its about a lethargic and depressing situation in the society and she wish 'we' can be pain free its similar to when she made a speech about jonghyun death. Why she made that speech? And she didnt directly admit its about jonghyun but its obvious. Youre not IU fans thats why you didnt know that event?
2. Its illogical if you think she will admit this song is about sulli/jonghyun death it feels like she using their death and disrespectful, even heechul keep it in private that he took care of sulli cat and doesnt want public to know cause it people will gossiping about it.
3. Why theres a peach in her house in MV? and she write song about peach=sulli?
4. Why there's another girl flying with a dragon in 2D form and shes tearing up when they saw each other and parting?
5. Clearly this song is about losing someone and it hurts for her so whos the girl(and the lizard) that she lost recently?
6. Do you think losing her friends due to suicide doesnt mean anything to her? As an artist IU usually create song inspired from her lifes experience, her feelings, what she sees.
7. Why she cant say goodbye to the person left otherwise that person is dead? And in the video she and suga is in airplane heading towards real world and they cant reach each other and the girl and the ragon is flying like a ghost. "Our goodbye is like an emergency alert" Where they stuck in airplane and the lizard is struck by lightning outside and disappeared. And later flying outside. When her friends died shes far away on the concert and she had to travel back
8. "Are you happy now? Im the same, i lost everything, everything goes without saying goodbye i dont wanna love anything" the question "are you happy now?" Seems like shes talking about the person who left her because the song is about losing someone and it hurts for her
9. "forever we young" everybody knows and its been written everywhere as a reference that someone who die young will be forever young. IU 28 year pass their friends age even though they should grow older too. Its weird feeling realizing only you grow old. Thats one of the inspiration too. So they can only meet in memory.
More IU content plsss
Eric is the type of person to be deep but by accident 😂
Lol true
@@yesmaam3399 oh no u didn't
I see what you did there 😂
Alima []Àśàd[] Adiba I- did you just-
honestly....same
after listening to Eric's explanation, I think I can see why IU decided to collab with Yoongi. I'm not saying this bc I'm and ARMY and "omg Yoongi!!" but because Yoongi has talked about similar things in his songs. for example, his latest solo song Shadow. They've achieved so much, but at the same time they may or may not feel fulfilled in the way they thought they'd be.
Two artists who have similar perspective on their fame and life coming together to make a song. I think it's beautiful.
Key they are also same aged friends so it makes even more sense for Yoongi to feature on the song and collab with IU
So you are implying UI had listened to SUGA's works?
@@jennynim3203 she is the one contacting him so I guess it's pretty obvious. Yoongi has amazing work as a producer and a rapper so I can see why such a great artists like iu and heize ect. Would want to collaborate with him
Jenny Nim y are u asking that as if it’s such an impossible phenomenon hahahaha
Yeah cuz bts has talked about how they’ve achieved so much to the point where they don’t know what to do anymore and I’m so happy that the boys rn are just focusing on being happy and trying new things instead of simply worrying about ranking and numbers💗💗
and the fact that suga is the same age as her make it perfect cause the song massage and name suit both iu and suga.
Yes!
I heard that's also one of the reasons suga decided to collab with IU because they're at the same age, and can relate to each other..
I just love Eric's voice when he talks, I've literally listened a whole podcast of him talking about food 😂
Yeah! Me too.
His voice is so attractive.
OH YES that episode. Hearing him going into a downward spiral on his eating habits during lockdown........ I laughed for a good minute fr
what episode was this lol
My first thought when I saw this video, “oh here come the tears” I have been a shawol since 2016 and hesitated from listening to it because I knew I would cry. And I was right but it was so beautiful! 💜
Same... When I hear the first line I immediately think of JH. 😓
@@mariasag9208 I thought i was the only one that immediately thought of JH when hearing that "Are you happy now?" because in his last words he begged to let him go..so he could finally be happy.. After JH died i always thought to myself, well at least he is happy now..
@@mirelasemanjaku yeah and for me i immediately thought of sulli, since she couldn't be happy here. it breaks my heart, i was avoiding this song for days because of my sensitive heart:)
I remember SUGA's shadow. as you grow, your shadow also grow. This is why it is important to acknowledge your shadow but never let your shadow consume you to never lose yourself and what's important to you
"Shadow" was a musical and lyrical masterpiece.
I think there’s also a theory that can be made that the song is about Sulli, Goo Hara, and Jonghyun
I think the correlation of Eric Nam's explanation and the theory that it could be made for Jonghyun, Sulli and Hara is that these three died in their late 20s. I think, IU and Yoongi is experiencing what Jonghyun and Sulli had experienced at that age.
@@noirinserenity Why only focus on one explanation? I think it's a combination of everything. It certainly is self-reflective and focuses on their situation and life, but especially with lines like "Goodbyes are like a catastrophe warning", I don't think it's fair to say that there's absolutely nothing referring to them, especially since Sulli was a very good friend of IU
@@annique9186 but did she tell you about that? Just because those three and iu are public figures you can't just assume stuff about her private feelings. It's disrespectful to all of them to assume stuff when she didn't even leave the meaning of the song vague. Let them rest please and let iu decide how to feel about her friends
the songs is like eric explanation, and looking at the mvs IU also indirectly involves of Sulli and Jonghyun too which we can predict that its them too..So everything is right......Goo Hara is she closed with IU too??
@@bubblegum7504 DKDKTV channel are Koreans and they made good and deep explaination of that song, being respectful, and presenting obvious references such as the salamender. I advice you and everyone to go check it :)
I really like how army's really showing support to this song . The fact that this song was IU's first digital entry in billboard chart and charting at Itune's says alot, also It's all kill in Korea's music chart. She deserves it, I like her since dream high and now seeing my co army who is not familiar to her but now after the song they are liking her too makes me so happy.
I love Eric’s explanation about “Eight” so much (his beautiful talking voice ❤️). The meaning of Eight gives me strength, especially because of the huge stress I’m going through these days. I’m a 26 years old university lecturer. Since my teen days, I’ve been constantly jumping from one country to another for education, exchange program, and conferences, to pursue my dream of becoming a university lecturer. Now I’m nearing 27, I started to think “Is this what I want? Am I happy now? Am I doing it right?”, and these thoughts particularly come up when I see other lecturers doing very well in their career. It gives me anxiety everytime I have to enter my class to give lecture to my students. I have to prepare my mind for 15-20 minutes before giving lecture. I feel that I’m not good enough, I feel like I can’t be a good example for my students and the society. I feel like I’ve missed many things in life. So IU’s song really hit me this time when she sings “Are you happy now?”. And Eric’s explanation about the lyrics makes me realize that we just have to face the reality and go on with life. It’s indeed a beautiful song that gives people strength to face the days. ❤️ Also, thank you for the good content!
I am also an educator and have hopped from country to country and various states throughout my life, especially since my teenage years. Now I'm 38 and starting to wonder about these questions. I'm glad you started thinking about it earlier.
Erini J.S.I am proud of you, you really did great. I appreciate your efforts and you have to do that too. We will never be perfect but when we work hard , for sure we will find a result . My father is a lecturer and he is 50 and he love what he is doing, so I try to be like him . Since i was young , I have seen dad works for hours , sometimes we didn’t see him all the day , he came and saw us while we are sleeping. I do respect him a lot really a lot , l know how is that hard but please appreciate what you are doing . Finding you thinking in this way like “ am l a good example !?“ only thinking in this means that you are a good one. Keep going and being a lecturer means that you have a great message. I totally appreciate that. Keep going and be happy .
Sorry for my English I am not native.
I am so proud of you. Maybe we're about same age but I'm going to start my first job these friday. I wish I could do better but I guess this is just too late for me.
It's so nice to hear someone say that they found strength in this song. I believe this type of comment is IU's highest form of achievement. Not topping the charts. Not the awards. Not making money (she can honestly retire at age 28). It's how the stories in her music can reach from her heart to yours.
Everyone has these thoughts from the moment you leave school and start working. I had them too. Like: Is this it? Am i going to do this routine for the rest of my life? Because since a kid to the time you get a job, you have goals that change at least every 4 years. But after you get to the destination..it's confusing. But don't worry! Life will give you plenty of opportunities to feel excitement and happiness. Don't stress about your path now. You can always take a new direction if you feel it right or if the time is right ;) Just enjoy where you are now. :)) PS: By the way, you had done great! To be a lecturer in UNI! Thumbs up girl! :))
As a 28 year old (well, turning 29 this year), this song makes me feel so heard and so understood. There’s still so much that’s unknown for the future and you’re constantly questioning everything in life. You feel stuck, you feel powerless, but at the same time you’re also trying to have the headspace to figure everything out without really knowing how. But then there’s moments of happiness where you realize, I literally have the rest of my entire life ahead of me, and while that’s scary, it’s also somehow humbling for me. That’s that “forever young” feeling for me - the constant learning and discovering, that never goes away. There’s no need to have everything figured out by the time you’re 30, or whatever age you feel like you need things to be figured out - life will happen and work our for you when it’s *supposed* to. It’s okay.
I really know your this feeling as you described. You have put it into word, well said and well explain. 👍 At first I question myself about this feeling, and after this song release and read many comment about it, i realize that's not only me, and i am not alone ...
I feel you 💜I don't know how to put this into words but I'll say this, I decided I will walk slowly with God for the rest of life just go with the flow putting everything in his name and be assured that I will be happy wherever and whatever I will have and achieve in life putting my faith and trust him❤️ I'm nothing without him and that he knows what is best for me💙🙏☺️✌️
ive treading my life a day at a time without clear view ahead. enjoying the time as it passes. but there were times when i cant help myself from feeling miserable by comparing myself with how much my high school and college friends have accomplished...
@@koalacruz787 stop comparing yourself with them you won't find happiness if you constantly compare yourself with others achievement and what they have in life do what makes you happy and satisfied in life💜afterall success is not something that you can see or count it's deep within you 💙
The song is a MASTERPIECE!!! There’s a bittersweet feeling every time I listen to it. Thank you Eric for reviewing the song. ☺️ Thank you for your explanation and for supporting IU and BTS 💕😊
I love how Eric can have fun and be a goofy human but also when its time to be serious he can say deep and meaningful things
Right.. how does he do that? I'm way too serious.. I think a lot about deep things.. but i can't be goofy or have that often fun.
I am goofy who can be serious but I can't speak that deep lol
That song came out so recently but it has already become my happy place. Cry almost every time I hear it.
Be quiet don’t cry
(If you didn’t get the joke.... sorry for u)

Eric always has such great interpretations and explanations for these songs :((
I how the deep meaning and message behind the song is being understood by artists who can also relate to it.
Love how Eric interpreted and explained it in his own way too!
I almost in my late twenties and I feel like I have done nothing :( but still, I find comfort in this song
idk you but please believe in yourself
give more credit to yourself 😉😁
It's nice to see how many artists are supporting the song Eightt :'))) It makes me soo happy knowing that ppl relate to it and show how they interpret the song themselves😣🤧
Man I’m on my early 20s and listening to this makes me think that I should do things that I will later look back and be happy and proud :)
Nicole Bueno same here I’m 23 ;)
I really like all these thoughts people have on eight
Thank you eric i love how you explained "eight" 💜 when i first listened to it i cryed when she cried without even knowing the lyrics..as an army I think suga often uses a poppish sound base with a very deep lyrics it's kinda his trademark lol. I think this song, with IU's beautiful vocals and suga's hitting rap, could be the most powerful collab imo
Awe , I love Eric's comments on the song.
It's really a great song, made me emotional thinking about Sulli and Jonghyun too.
There is a part in the song that really stands out to me and the translation is:
“There is no such thing as decided goodbyes,
Meet me in that memory that was once beautiful, forever young”
It means to me at least is that you don’t decide when something or someone is going to leave you so when you have it appreciate it because it doesn’t last forever, but you want it to thus, forever young.
And when it does happen you tend to remember those memories that he or she or whatever was still there and it was a beautiful time.
And that’s why I love this song
I love how eric's voice register, it's so soothing and the fact that he is explaining while his foot is up on the chair being comfy. argh ㅡ i love.
He's not wrong. IU said herself that it's a song about self reflection.
I understand 무기력함 as "lethargic" personally. Maybe I'm wrong
I love listening to this song. Thanks for sharing your take on it!
I LOVE how you explained this song 👏🏻
These are some stellar insights. I know for where I'm at in my age and time, I'm happier now than when I was in my twenties. I feel brighter and more understanding of myself as a person; music like this song always puts things into perspective.
Lol, you're lucky! Being 28 is a rough ❤️
the only podcast that i admired forevah !! alot of wise words i learned from all dive studio podcast ❤️ much love ❤️
The song has so many messages
It's so beautiful
I love this song it will be my jam for the foreseeable future 😭
I love listening to you react and explain songs.
This is my first video of yours and I really liked the way you spoke about the song.
The song indeed has a universal appeal. I recently turned 26 and I totally get what the song talks about. At times (and especially during this pandemic) people start to think about the meaning of their lives and whether they're happy with what they've achieved. I loved the message this song gives and it makes me feel like I'm not alone who has such thoughts and that's comforting.
That makes sense.
It kind of reminds me of a TED talk given by the woman who wrote "Eat, Pray, Love". She talked about the paralyzing fear that comes after achieving your goals, and how to move past it. Good topic.
I really loved the way Eric explained the song! 💜💜💜
Yeah even when im only 23 y.o this song is exactly what im going through rn. You know when i was a kid i always imagined when i grew up i finally can do this and that. And then when im actually become a grown up and starting to know how the society works, i just wish i could turn back time and never grow up :)
I love this song so much!! 😍
Wow your analysis of the song was spot on with what IU recently shared about Eight in Look Me Up!
Eight got deep meaning that everyone can understand👀💕
U are so right❤️❤️the best duooo💕
Thx Eric!💜
Great explanation. Thank you
We(I) love deep talks. You get to see the persons thoughts and it helps you understand better 💜
amazed by how everyone interpreted about the story behind it but all i know is that this song is just simply beautiful.
Had it on repeat for several hours yesterday. Relate to it so much. Still ask myself that question almost every day but I don’t know the answer yet. Everything is just on repeat and routine so it’s hard to reflect.
A song can have many meanings for different people. Such is art! I am warmed by IU's beautiful skilled voice and Suga's Rap is short but powerful!
I already waited thiss ㅠㅠ
Having Eric explaining this incredible song is just amazing 👏
I might actually cry because I’ve been asking myself that for a while now and I’m younger but I don’t know where I want my life to go and how to be happy in doing it. This talk actually helps me feel less alone in those thoughts
I think this is an incredibly common feeling. I’m 37 and I still struggle with questioning if I’m doing the right thing, am I really happy, have I found where I belong in the world. I appreciate taking the time to dissect the lyrics and discuss the meaning of this song.
These are questions you will keep asking yourself as you grow older. It is indeed the reality of life to reflect on your life. A truly beautiful song.
Eric explains this stuff so well
I stopped doing hw for this I love eric😭😭
You know when u listen to a song and you like, and when you know the explanation behind it and the meaning it really changes your view of the song and you start listening to it in a different way!!
iu have great songs
Man I trust and love Eric sm

I love this song so much 😭💜
It's perfect 💜
I need eric in my life sm and i bet ya’ll do lol...he is such a mood and understands so well , talented, optimistic, funny, he has such a kind soul and so friendly and motivative person ...
If i only have a chance to meet him once in my life then i will be so grateful to finally meet such a treasure i love u sm eric💜
That song hits so close to home...
Eric: gives a deep heart felt speech at beginning of video
Me: AM I HAPPY? AM I HAPPY?
Thanks for giving us your thoughts. It made me understand the song much better. I'm in my early 30s and I know exactly what she is talking about. This really hits home. Thank you for your explanation!
eric’s explanation has made me appreciate the song and the lyrics even more 🥰
(though I wish he talked about yoongi’s verse)
Love it ..thank you for your explaination 💜💙🧡
Yesss👏🏾🦋
The explanation was really good
Being in my late twenties has been my happiest. For sure. Going through the healing process is HARD, no doubt, but as you conquer that first mountain it’s slightly easier. It doesn’t ever become one hundred percent better, but to have true contentment at this age is truly a blessing.
I love the explanation somehow..it make me reminds to someone..knowing that our life..i mean sometimes always questioning their life...so the way iu said "so are you happy now?" Make me think...they lyrics got me drown into my thinking..and they way eric explain it make me more thinking...thanks for the explanation...
THIS omg eric does such a good job at these things I finally understood what the song meant
I’m 28 and I totally see what you’re saying in the beginning... love this video!
I love how Eric is so focused on stuff it so cute 🥺
Happiness is not a thing you can own or achieve. Happiness is an emotion, a Moment, a blink of an eye, a feeling. Happiness comes and goes just like everything in life.
We all wish for a lot of happy moments in our life, but its 'just' a moment and it will fade eventually. That doesnt mean its gonna be worse afterwards. Its just normal. Dont be afraid. Life is crazy, but we're alive to live. So lets live in everyway possible! 😜🤙🏻😌💞
I actually turned 28 a week ago and it was probably the worst week in while mentally. The entire world situation had made me think a lot about the stage I am at in life. I would say I rarely get sad, but I also can't say that I'm truly happy often as well.
This song came at the perfect time to get my out of this slump. ❤
Thank you for explaining this and also for speaking English coz for the first time I can listen to a Korean celeb without subs.. Hehe
I’m older than both IU and Yoongi, and I think that this song can be used at any stage of life, really. I’ve been in my career for 21 years, and I find myself asking this question constantly. It’s kind of bittersweet, because you come to the realization that being content doesn’t mean being happy, which makes you wonder if anyone actually achieves happiness, or if it’s just instances of happiness that we look for in life amidst all that we do.
Eric I love you!!
Dude I really like ur explaination I really like it keep it up Eric🤗
I love how he's an idol yet he's screeching and expierenceing the excitement and p a i n we go thru as kpop stans
Eric Oppa🥰
wait wait Eric
I almost broke down when he said Forever Young 🥺😭💜
This is the explanation that I need. There’s a lot speculation out there about this song. Can you also make something like this for day6 song Zombie, because a lot of people say that they can relate to that song and the song itself is very beautiful. Thank you Eric.
MAN ERIC HAS BEEN SUCH A GREAT HYUNG SUPPORTING BANGTAN FROM THE EARLY DAYS SINCE ASC. IT'S SO NICE THAT HE STILL SUPPORTS THEM MUSICALLY. I THINK THIS WAS PROBABLY THE GREATEST COLLAB IN KPOP HISTORY. EVERYONE WAS WAITING FOR THIS. I'VE WAITED FOR OVER 6 YEARS! ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T WITH JUNGKOOK, IU AND SUGA WERE STILL SO COMPLIMENTING! BOTH ARE MY FAVOURITE SONGWRITERS.
Oh no I’m ready to cry
Eric is so good at keeping the balance of deep stuff and JUST stuff hahahahah well done 😅
The song has a feeling of nostalgia for the halcyon days. It's a song to jam to whilst you jam to on a road trip where you drive by a beach but also the song to listen to at night while you sit and just stare out at nothing in particular
I love how mature this comment section is. Compliments the video well, good job!!
Thank you for explaining and interpreting the song this way, it helps me understand it a little better, to be honest I was a little confused over what it was about because of theories floating around but this helped a lot!
I’m 21 yrs old right now, and is it weird that I’m scared to feel the way they describe when I’m older? , maybe I think about the future too much, I should just live in the present a little more and enjoy the little moments but even though I’m still in my early 20s and have done things such as road tripping to Alaska, climbing to the edge of waterfalls, backpacking in Europe, I can’t help but feel a “now what?” type of sensation. I’m struggling as I juggle, two full time jobs, following my dreams that I sometimes think I should just give up, and going to school, I often think about age 30 and how if I’m not successful by then, then it’s all over, but what if I do reach some kind of success and it’s still not enough? maybe the key is to just have your loved ones around you and make memories or maybe it’s to not chase happiness or to see achieving your dream as the ultimate happiness in life, maybe we should all just enjoy the little moments in life where we can just laugh with our loved ones, I don’t really know, but anyways these are just my thoughts these days as I’ve just turned the age of an official adult in the US, and how it makes me feel
Your life will will unfold as it's meant to. Just tell yourself you're following your destiny with every step that you take. There will be hurdles and set-backs, but this is the story written for you. Don't be afraid to live it, okay?
I like iu songs, because she wrote music that shown realism and at the same time she portrayed a great sense of joyfullness, to me, her songs messages are "it's okay, even if at the moment u are sad, everythings going to be okay"
I fucking love the song
Eric and IU! Are you reading my thoughts? I am 28 and I have literally thought all these things! being the same age as IU I feel like her songs always capture what I am feeling!
i love u eric:"))
I'm glad that iu Collab with yoongi he such a emotional guy and omg Eric explain the song bruhh😍
Omg I can Eric Nam being a podcaster 😂😂 casting sum artists to explain their MV's😮😮👌🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is the most realistic explanation I've heard so far for this song eight. Talking bout how life have been so far for a young lady who's maturing year by year. Unlike those baseless statements created by many
eric i lov u
This song also has the meaning of mourning IU's friends Sulli, Jonghyun, Hara. So that's so emotional in lyrics. There are several scenes in the music video related to her friends as well. IU just want to keep those memories and send the message to them in heaven.
It's only your and a few fans' theories. IU has never said anything about that and she explained her song's meaning several times. Let her decide how to feel and what to do for her friends and stop with the assumptions
Every time I watch the music video I cry.
