Isn't it amazing how far technology has come? I never would have imagined that we can make our own likenesses and figures, from scratch, right at home!
This was fun. Next time, can you also scan the figures with the heads off and then combine your scans in the other software to get the sizes right? You can then add the posts and edit the necks to match the figures closer?
Wow! Awesome episode, hay great job on your custom selfie action figures. Hay if you have any trouble getting a head off of a action figure submerge the figure in hot water for 1 minute the it will pull off easily. I have two ideas for you, 1 you could do both of your Mandalorian selfie action figures in the outfits you created. 2 make a small model of Brian in his work shop With him building one of his models on the table. These figures would be so cool in your room build.
Great look at some awesome tech. It really is amazing what’s available to makers today compared with even a few years ago. But the best part of the video is that the excitement and fun and sheer joy you two had doing this come through loud and clear. 😁
I've not worked with the scanning stuff because I just don't have the cash for it, but you said at the end that you'd like to try scanning with glasses on. I know sometimes reflective surfaces can cause depth-sensors to freak out, my Kinect V2 tends to get motion capture completely wrong if my TV or whiteboard happen to reflect into the lens. It might be worth trying to find a way to download the final model and adding it into some kind of character modelling program where you can add your own clothing, hair, etc. Nothing comes to mind right now but I'm sure there are free options out there. Then once you've got the glasses added to the model, you can print it out.
@@TheSmugglersRoom Another recommendation, there's a program called Marvelous Designer too which is very good for 3D modelling clothes! Its a bit expensive but I believe there is a trial version! If you do a full-body scan, you can import your model into that to add custom clothing that is fitted to it!
Love it! With some heat and needle nose pliers you can get the post out of the donor figure head. With a hollowed out custom head you can either fill it with hot glue to and put Vaseline in the ball joint, or I usually just throw some blue tack inside the head since no one is ever gonna see it.
Cool that you can insert yourselves into a scene. The land speeder miniature in the first Star Wars had a pretty accurate Alec Guinness and Mark Hamill. R2 was a bit budget.
The timing of this video is spooky…last weekend on the VanOaks Props livestream the conversation skewed odder than usual, ending up with us clamoring for a Derek action figure. Suggested accessories were caps, sneakers and glue guns! Mrs. VanOaks sold separately! Now you know what to get Derek for Life Day!
Hey, man. Those figures have a barbell joint. If you heat up the head with a blow dryer or hot water, you can pop that pin out of the head and pop it back into the neck slot. Then all you have to do is add a peg hole in your scanned head and pop it onto the neck. You keep the neck articulation that way, too.
Man that is so awesome now when you build your ship you and the miss can make y’all’s action figures to go with it that would be so cool to have it landed in your diorama town and y’all gearing up to go to town
Boss I wish I had half y’all’s talent, but you have inspired me to push myself in to try a few things on my own but you the junkyard Jedi just make it look so easy lol keep on knocking out the builds I enjoy them all , makes me wish for a bigger house lol
Yeah totally! I also found a 3D model of glasses last night that I can simply add to my scan and then print all together, I never even thought about that. 👍
This is pretty cool! Lots of us in the world building community have sculpted our own head sculpts and modified existing ones to look like ourselves. This is another way to do that very same thing. Cheers.
Yeah, we figured that was likely the big issue. We also realized later that we can simply 3D model a pair of glasses and then just add them to the 3D file . . . boom, simple and easy!
How about hanging the scanner from the ceiling on a motorized table. It would spin around your head and you could set a speed controller on the table to dial in a clean scan
With a little research, you might be able to find the neck post dimensions for your donor figures. Also, you totally need to do this on a 1/6 scale body with an electronic talk box!
I just made a custom avatar! Interesting to see the different approach. I don't have access to a 3D printer so I got a head whose structure was very close and used Apoxie Sculpt to add features to make it more 'me'. Excellent work you two! ❤
What an ace project. I’ve always said to my mates as a joke when we finish our World War II. Werewolf film. It will be so cool to have action figures of ourselves and it actually looks like it’s doable. Awesome video guys 👍🏻 👍🏻
@@TheSmugglersRoom Then start making them and I will! Personally, I'll wait for the "Brian and Carissa as Han and Leia" set. (Millenium Falcon not included.)
I need to suggest this scanner to my orthotist for making moulds for my leg splints. It would be so much easier than casting my legs in plaster of Paris.
Way back in the mid 90s I worked for a company called Real 3D and we had a product that made this scanning possible. We could scan a face and create a mesh that could be animated to talk and it would look very much like the person.
@@TheSmugglersRoom They used lasers to measure the head to make the mesh and took pictures to put on the textures. They took it to the Sistine Chapel and made a full life like scan of it.
How fun! I've been wanting one of those scanners for a good while now. I have so many ideas I want to make. Seriously cool way to use the Revopoint scanner.
I used my scanner to make "screen accurate' model of my head for sizing cosplay helmets. You just import the finished model into ArmorSmith to include in your avatar. Significantly more accurate than just taking some measurements to enable a perfect fit for a helmet every time. I'd love to make 3D scans of my cats but it would have to be of them sleeping which will probably not work out so well given the amount oif light you need to shine on teh subject to get a good scan ...
Buenas noches maestro! Grande eres muy grande,es un vídeo bestial cómo nos tienes acostumbrados. Me gusta mucho ésas figuras 3,75" . Hi you should take a look at Hasbro pulse you can make yourself into a Star wars character with your head on it,I live in the UK so not able to do this as you can only be a resident in the USA
Yeah, that's a great addition to the shop. A maker by the name of Cam Breeze made that for us. You can find him in the Star Wars Room Builders Group on facebook if you are interested.
There's a couple of companies that make 1/6 head sculpts from a photo. The examples they show look really good but one company called Fab Figures charges $450, that's all painted and with hair. Another one charges $235. How do they do it from one front facing photo?
Amazing project guys, and so pleased to be able to take part! It was kinda surreal to be playing with your heads in my editor LOL 😉

Glasses cause issues with scanning because of reflective surfaces. So here’s a thought: put on frames without lenses and then do the scan!
Yeah, we figured that was likely the big issue. We also realized later that we can simply 3D model a pair of glasses and then just add them to the 3D file . . . boom, simple and easy!

not a bad idea. One of the challenges is getting up under the chin and other spots so the mesh is complete.
