I am SUCH a smell-oriented person, if a product smells bad, or if it's a lippie and it tastes horrendous (more than it should) when it gets in your mouth, I immediately return it, lol
Exactly same, to some point I can tolerate such smells but main reason I will never buy Biossance moisturisers due to how bad they smell. They work fine but smells puts me off every time I try to like them. Their cleansing oil is superb though!!
Inkey Lists' biggest problem is the packaging. I really don't feel they put enough into getting the right packaging for the right product. Worst one is the oat cleanser, it's so hard to use the last quarter of the product without cutting the bloody tube open.
My tube of the oat cleanser is just permanently leaking and sticky on the outside so I ended up keeping it in the shower. I don't even like the formula of it.
I also find it quite annoying that all of their packaging is the exact same, I own the retinol serum and a moisturizer and am constantly accidentally putting the retinol on my face instead of the moisturizer, makes it kinda annoying especially when you're in a rush to get to work
@@Grace-pd5lu mine immediately separated as well, that's probably why it's constantly leaking. I should just throw it out if it's still in my shower. It's possible I already got rid of it in a blind rage.
@@juliaswistara fr as soon as it happened as well I was like is this okay to put on my face and when I washed it off it felt like it still was on my face , like idk how to explain it but my face felt oily ish after 🤡 I won’t buy again , but I did really like the salicylic acid cleanser but if you have dry skin it might be a bit stripping
I've been using this since it launched and yes it works for me. I had almost no lips and now I have lips lol. Of course it's a subtle difference, but a definite difference. I also like it as a moisturiser. It does not leave my lips dry when it wears off like Vaseline and other lip balms do. The trick to not getting a mouthful of petroleum flavour is to use just enough without slathering it on. And of course don't lick your lips.
@@ambermitchell5838Petrolatum stops trans epidermal water loss, increasing skin hydration as a result. It also helps restore barrier function so the skin can rehydrate itself.
Michelle and James in the same video - what a match made in heaven 😉 I've been using this lip balm for well over a month now and I like it. The taste doesn't bother me at all. But these before and after pics look more dramatic than my actual lip filler 😂
I actually bought this because I like The Inkey List and I’m always in need of a good lip balm since my lips are dry. Especially nnow when it’s gerting cold outside. I was sceptical at the alleged effect but I thought it might be good anyway. Well, it didn’t work at all for my. My upper lip is super dry again. And another things is that it taste aweful. I don’t mind it being unscented but it tastes like plastic.
Oh, the only lip product that actually makes a difference for me is the lip serum from the Swedish brand Verso. It is expensive but it makes my lips smoother.
La roshe posay has good lip balms! I love thr cicaplast one but it runs out sooo fast so I use the nutritic lip balm which works very well and I kind of switch between that one and aquaphor I usually have both on me and I also use lanolin as a lip mask and night and I use it as lip balm in the winter and they get dryer. Idk I'd you've tried that bur ir definitely works for me bur they aren't dry that often anymore and I lightly exfoliate them with my toothbrush sometimes (with no toothpaste on tho)
This lip balm actually worked for me, not a huge difference but you know like when you see someone at work one day and think they look really nice but can't tell anything different, its like that. And haven't had any dead skin on my lips since I started using it, it's now my favorite lip balm
My peptide serum has the same peptides that are in this lip product. I put it on my lips when I put it on my face. It has taken maybe 5 to 6 months but I definitely see & feel a difference in the plumpness of my lips. It's not like getting lip filler though. They're slightly more plump than they were before. Almost like I ate too much salt the night before and my lips feel a bit puffy n the morning lol.
I do the same with my Stratia Interface! I figure that my lips are skin so not only do I take skincare down my neck and chest and hands, but also pat some of them on my lips. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
We achieved, within 2-3 months, not using a tripeptide, but using volufiline [and then Adifill], a really nice, visible effect of... filled, fleshy, plump lips. And it works because it affects fat cells. We know that people with good results also use these ingredients on their breasts.
I tried it without seeing all the hype/controversy and every time I use it I feel my lips are softer, lines filled in, and definitely appear more plump than usual so works well for me 😅
Yeah same here, I’ve been using it for around 2 months as my regular lip balm and I’ve seen so much more difference than when I was using my really loved La Roche Posay lip balm.
The job I assigned to this product was to add plumpness/fullness, if possible. I enjoy others, such as, Burt’s Bees, La Neige, Tatcha, et al for moisture products. The taste is off-putting and a bit gritty. I’m a natural girl so have never done fillers or the like. My lips have filled out and my Cupid’s bow is more defined. I now have a more refined lip and have been happy with the outcome. The smell is a deterrent in that I wouldn’t use it during the day or when in close quarters.
so i bought this after seeing a tiktok about it (not the ad) - because it was cheap, it seemed worth a shot. i have had fillers but not recently, and after about a week of wearing it a colleague of mine asked if i’d got more filler! to be honest, i don’t see that much of a difference, but i like the texture and don’t mind the (lack of) taste. however, i do have a dry patch / flat blister on my lip right now (not a cold sore) and since someone else in the comments has mentioned something similar… i wonder if it’s connected!
Niod also has a lip serum that claims to Improve the look of lip color, volume, and texture. I tried that a few years ago and saw no difference in my lips and it was over 50 euros for a 15ml bottle 🤯 I'm so over any lip product, I feel like putting my hydrating face products on the contour of my lips is enough for me, also I don't have dry lips since I've stopped using lip balms, so that is my take. 😅
“It came pouring out” omg like in Cabinet of Curiosities The Outside episode with the Alo Glow 😮 lol. A good creepy episode watch for those who love beauty and skin care and don’t mind a little blood. Some blood. It was a great episode!
I have *almost* added this to my Sephora cart a few times, but something stopped me everytime... I think I was just subconsciously waiting for James's review/opinion! I'm glad I waited because if a lip product tastes offensive, I don't want it anywhere near my mouth. Congrats on working with Michelle; we all know how much you've wanted the honour. And we get it, she's fantastic. :)
I recently bought the Ole Henriksen peptide lip treatment in citrus sunshine. And it's soo nice. It stays put on your lips for ages. I use it over night and it's still there in the morning and I can see my lips look fuller, not anything extreme but definitely plumper, hydrated. I've used a lot of different types of lip masks, laniege, grande pout etc and nothing has ever worked as well as this product. It isn't advertised as a plumper or anything though but I think because it hydrates so well that it helps the lips to fill out a little. It's more expensive than the inky list but I'll be repurchasing for ever. They've just come out with a tinted version called lingenberry. It looks really nice too. 😊🌻
I’ve used two other lip products that don’t advertise as plumping at all, but have permanently changed my lip shape to be plumper. I think most of it is that before then, I used much less hydrating products. they were the milani fruit fetish oils and the tonymoly lip melts
Can I just say that Sally Beauty as a retailer is underrated? As Ulta has expanded, I feel like people who used to check in there stopped doing so. You're the only person I've heard mention it in videos in _years._ However, before many towns had an Ulta, they first had a Sally (and probably still do) and I've always had a wonderful experience at every location I've visited. Rimmel is less prominent in the US than it used to be. It was everywhere when I first started with makeup; you'd find it just as often as brands like CoverGirl, Revlon, Maybelline and L'Oreal. I feel as though it has left many retailers it used to be in or has downsized its presence in the ones it still works with (so, it's found in fewer locations or their display in store is smaller than it was). Revlon used to have _wonderful_ chubby stick lip stains (in the Just Bitten line). I wish they'd bring them back. 😢 Emily Noel will still sometimes mention the Neutrogena chubby sticks; she calls them the sweat pants of lip sticks. 😆
I still frequent Sally Beauty. It’s where I get my hair products. Ulta is expensive and Sally’s sells the brands I use (and they have really good sales).
22:48 just watched Michelle’s segment and I knew this had to have something with a slight “sting” very very mild but I’m very sensitive to the sting of lip plumpers, so sensitive that I’ve had the really extreme lip plumpers actually trigger a panic attack, crazy I know! But I applied a very strong lip plumper once a couple of years ago and it stung so much it made my heart race and I had a panic attack which is why I gave up on the lip plumpers altogether! I’m just very sensitive to the ingredients that cause that stinging sensation so when I first applied this Inkey List balm I did feel a very very mild, very short sting, just for a few seconds and it stopped so it wasn’t bad at all. I could see how someone who isn’t as sensitive as I am wouldn’t feel a sting at all! But overall I like the shine and moisture this gives my lips (I’ve only used it one day so far) so I’m curious to see if it actually plumps my lips at all as my top lip is basically nonexistent. I did take a before pic and I ordered a couple more tubes during the Sephora sale to make sure I have enough to see if there’s an actual difference after a month or two! 💕
Hello James! 🎉 I just bought this product before yesterday. 😊 I have very dry lips and I love the feeling of oil on my lips, but I still need more fat, so I am covering my lips with Vaseline as well. The smell or taste doesn't bother me somehow. I have a sensitive and dry skinn and I hope that it will not irritate my lips with the time. 💋
I’ve got lip filler disclaimer 2mls and I thought I needed to have them redone, so I picked this up to try it and I love it after 6-7 weeks I’d say I was really happy with how my lips looked I’m on my third tube the only thing I’d say is the smell but not enough to bother me x
I’ve stopped using all lip products except Vaseline 😭 nothing seems to actually really work like it should, I’m hoping one day there is like a miracle lip product lol
Try a nipple cream. Either pure lanolin nipple cream, or a blend like Weleda nipple cream. You’ll get huge tube. I’ve just started applying Clinique’s moisture surge 100hr on my lips as well as my face to hydrate them, and then nipple cream on top.
I bought a little pot of Neutrogena's hydro boost hydrating lip treatment last winter when my lips where getting super dry and cracked and it did a great job at keeping them from getting chapped, and I still have plenty left over for this winter. No tint or plumping or anything though Edit: I also get crazy bad hangnails during the winter too! Highly reccomend Sally Hansen's cuticle cream or some other cutle butter if you struggle with hangnails, way less messy than cuticle oil so much more convenient to apply on the go
As someone who purchased this and has been using it for around 3-4 weeks here’s my review: As a lip balm, it’s not super moisturising like it claims to be. BUT I have seen a difference on my lips! I think it’s because my lips were in need a bit of TLC in the moisture department initially, which is why I purchased in the first place. However, my burts bees overnight lip mask (which I use as a daily lip balm also) is MUCH more moisturising AND a fraction of the price. Also, due to the formula, this is really good to wear over lip makeup. But bottom line: overpriced- check out the burts bees overnight mask (same effect, better performance). The BB’s one is also a dupe for the laniege lip mask.
I thought I was the only one who felt like this! I bought it because I love the Inkey List and I am addicted to trying lip products 😅but the taste i just can’t use it regularly, and I agree it does get very watery sometimes. On the flip side, I am obsessed with the Summer Fridays lip balms BECAUSE of the taste! (And they just work)
Shea butter gives me contact allergy so I can’t try this, but it did pique my interest when I first saw it. I can’t live without Decubal lips & dry spots balm however, so I’m not that sad about it. My lips may not be plumped but at least they’re soft and hydrated.
To give an honest review plus experience too: I’ve been using it for a few weeks as well although sometimes 3 times a day and sometimes only once. I noticed a difference - not in photos but actually very noticeable in real life - after only 1-2 weeks. BUT as soon as I forgot to use it more than 2 times per day, the effect slowly faded again. It’s interesting because my lips are the fullest in the morning when they’re still plump and hydrated from the moisturizers etc. - I put my hydrating balm over the inkey list one because I don’t find that hydrating, rather peeling even!! With the balm, I was able to keep the plumpness much longer…but again, you’ll have to use it consequently and it really tasted awful. Plus: they answer questions on their insta quite often, also answered one of mine, but when I asked how that works chemically/scientifically - no answer.
i just purchased this, i intend to use it as a lip serum? basically. i have a pretty rigorous routine to keep my lips moisturized and protected so it will be added in before my spf balm earlier and through out the day and before my vaseline/ lip mask at night. im not expecting miracles but id be happy to see the lines in my lips fill in a bit more!
I bought this when it came out and used it multiple times a day for about five weeks and there is zero difference in my lips. Also mine leaked everywhere and got super runny as well.
I’ve been using Stratia Interface in my skincare routine and I like to tap a bit on my lips for added peptide benefits. I feel like that plus a nice gloss would pretty much be the same (maybe better bc of the encapsulated peptides?) than this? But also, I kind of still want to try this!
Ooh around 11:40 your friend mentions the white dot on her lip. Interesting. I just used the rhode balm a few times (not impressed as there’s some grit in two of the colors - other two are fine) which is peptide based as well and I got a white dot just like that one! Never before
I'm always looking for a non-sticky gloss and bought this last week on a whim, and the taste is definitely weird xD it tasted like the product was.. old? Like drinking water thats been in a bottle too long and it tastes like the bottle :P i do like how it feels tho!
I am using this and feel it is really helping with my dry lips. I think it tastes terrible though which will make me NOT repurchase. I found a way to get through that though by using it like a serum treatment and placing a thicker balm over it to mask the taste.
I wasn’t really impressed but I’d planned to stick with it until the tube ran out. Well, I lost the tube and I can’t say I’m upset about it lol 😅 The smell and taste are like straight up plastic but somehow also a little bit… off? If I found it at the bottom of an old handbag unopened and tried it, I’d be thinking “oh no this has definitely gone off”. It also didn’t leave my lips feeling hydrated. They were okay with it on, but as soon as it started wearing off, my lips felt as bad as before, if not worse. It just added to the plasticky feeling, like rubbing liquid plastic all over your lips with no benefits. I’ve happily returned to my go-to, the Cerave healing ointment. I don’t usually use Cerave but this stuff works so well as a lip balm and as a top layer a couple times a week at bedtime if my skin is feeling really dry. I bought a pack of cute little pots around the size of the Laneige sleeping mask minis for under £1 and I just transfer it into there and I’m good to go, I have multiple so I can keep one at home, one in my bag, etc, and the tub has lasted me SO SO SO long meaning it’s very economical! And it doesn’t leave you immediately reaching for more once it wears off, I put it on twice a day (day and with my bedtime skincare) and don’t even notice the lack of it in between. Doesn’t plump my lips, but neither did the Inkey one lol. Best lip thing I’ve tried so far 🎉💖
Yesss!! I’ve so waited for this, thank you so much 🥰 Edit: Thank you for this thorough analysis, it helped a lot understanding this - in my opinion - awful and untrue marketing. I bought it immediately as well since I’ve dealt with chronically dry lips since I was a little child - it did nothing for my lips. Actually, it had a similar effect of typical chap sticks: oily/greasy when fresh on the lips, and leaving the lips when it rubbed off dryer and a little irritated. You’d have to pile this on non-stop to fake actual moisture in the lips. I do a lot better with blistex intensive care lip balm in the morning and afternoon and a thick layer of Bepanthen over night as a lip mask. If I only used the inkey List lip balm, my lips would be dry, bleeding and cracking open after a week. It just doesn’t do enough when you struggle with something like chronically dry lips. :/ I’m very sad that it’s not some magic item because I’ve been suffering from my dry lips forever and nothing seems to help. I’ve gotten in a good routine but missing literally one day of it and they’re back to flaking and bloody. A magic lip balm is really what I’m still looking for 🥲 Oh and also: didn’t realize any taste, but it does smell kinda gross. But I don’t taste it, unless licking my lips!
Hey you might want to stop using Blistex. A while ago a reputable testing group here in Germany tested it (I think it was Stiftung Warentest) and it failed HORRIBLY. It actually got the grade 6/ F (while all other tested Chapsticks had As or Bs as grades) because it has ingredients in it that are highly linked to cause cancer. My mom actually brought it to my attention bc I also loved Blistex the most, used religiously and then had to search for a good alternative 😢 now I use the generic drug store brand. While it's not the same it's at least doing its job and won't cause me cancer
I'm so surprised they didn't put a hint of flavour in it! Have you tried the new Ordinary barrier support serum? (the pink one), interested in your thoughts
I was disappointed when I heard about the misleading aspects of their spot treatment, cause I do think it's a really good product that works well, but I don't want to keep buying it just on principle of not wanting to reward the misleading marketing choices. It's a good salicylic acid spot treatment they did not need to be weird about it, and it has lead to me not trusting them the same as I used to.
I was chosen to test out the lip balm for the first 2 weeks of its release, and to then after send before and after pictures. Throughout the experience, not only the taste was weird, but the texture also felt grainy… it did make my lips feel and look more fuller though, which was very satisfying, however, as for the applicator, I just couldn’t use it so had to put it on my fingers first before application.
I bought this products weeks ago, simply for the plumping claims. I hated the smell and taste from the get go, I thought my balm was in bad condition until I read the reviews on their website. They claim all their products are fragance free, therefore it smells “natural”. I could not get used to the smell and taste so I haven’t been able to try it and see a difference in my lips. Such a shame. I feel I’ve wasted my money😭 On the other hand, I really enjoyed this video and the segments with Kelly and Michelle!! 🩷
This is the first product that ive ever bought due to TikTok. Im constantly trying to plump my lips without actually getting filler. I have been using it for exactly a month tomorrow and i honestly can't tell a difference. The taste is horrendous. The forst time i used it, it actually made me nauseous. I think i used too much. I will continue to use it to see if i get any results
Omg this explains so much! I tried this for 2 days and I had the worst dry and cracked lips. This is a great explanation as to why it is very irritating for someone with sensitive skin.
I got it sent to me before it launched! I wouldn’t say I had a visible difference but I could definitely feel a major difference. But I stopped using it and all the effects went away. Definitely been meaning to go back to it. I wish it smelled better
As usual, excellent video concept. Though I agree, wholeheartedly, about the taste and smell, it's been the only lip product to help my lips in the dry, mountainous New Mexico climate. Thanks, James.♥️
I'd love to see a video on serums explaining how much is too much. If my toner has niacinamide can I skip my niacinamide serum? Can I overdose on serum?
I got this lip balm around 2 months so, but I did buy it thinking the b/a were a little over-blown. The taste doesn't bother me now, but it did at first. I am so used to a lip balm with flavor. I DO like it as a lip mask for night. It does a better job than my normal chapstick.
I noticed the taste at the beginning but not any more. I do not like the packaging, I squeeze a little out on my finger to apply. I apply it when I go to bed and the next morning I swear my lips look a little plumper butt I wouldn’t say it’s worked long term.
Your voice is so smooth it puts me to sleep after 5-10 minutes. Works better den asmr for me which is amazing but unfortunately I never finished one of your videos due falling asleep so fast😅
I bought this knowing the plumping effect would be negligible, but I was hopeful it would be a decent lip balm. I was right on both counts, but what I wasn't expecting was the smell of burnt plastic and hospital wards, it tastes like vaseline and ear medicine too. Honestly it's gross, but I have a tube of it to get through so I'll persevere....
Mine had gritty bits in it! They would dissolve away after rubbing in a lot, but it was so off putting and probably something wrong with the formula. 😅
Bought it few days ago, i don't feel any strange taste. I don't know if it plumps my lips but it's very moisturising and i do not need to reapply any lip balm for many hours (great for my usually superdry lips). Expensive but im happy with this product.
Ok before I even watch the video I have to say I LOVE THIS LIP BALM.. because it feels so hydrating.. I feel like the texture of my lips has improved but idk about “plumping”. I think it just improves the hydration of your lips and therefore makes them look more “plumped” over time.
Great video as usual James! I got this at Sephora as I’d tried the TooFaced plumper (a sample from Mecca) and hated that irritated feeling. I’ve been using this now for over two weeks, three times a day (in the AM with skincare application, top up in the PM and then before bed at night with skincare). I’ve been pleasantly surprised as I wasn’t expecting much after reading the reviews. I applied a bright red lip yesterday (Maybeline Matte Ink) for the first time in ages (between applications) and definitely noticed better application and a plumper, more defined top lip (I’m like your guest and hate my thin top lip 😭) I’ve not noticed much around the taste or smell - but I wonder if it’s like coriander/cilantro and there’s an ingredient that some people just pick up on more strongly? (I think in the case of coriander it’s a genetic thing) 🤔💭
Oof the feeling of dry lips is about the worst!! I am so with her on that! I've always hated my thin lips, but 1. I can't afford fillers rn and 2. I am SOOO paranoid of ending up with a bad or over the top result! I do use a thicker lip gloss line that has a bunch of skin/lip loving oils and ingredients because thin products seem to vanish way too fast, but being in animal care they can be hair magnets... grooming would be a nightmare! 😂
10:29 I agree wholeheartedly the taste of the Inkey list balm is awful! And the smell! I just got it yesterday and started using it today! I do like how shiny and moisturizing it is so far. Ok going to finish the video now. As of now I do like the shine and the moisturizing aspect so I may repurchase just for that even if it doesn’t actually plump (not that far yet to know the verdict lol) 💕
I LOATHE the taste/smell. But I have seen a difference. I did notice my lips felt dry when it wore off and checked the inky list post that suggested using a lip treatment on top of it and that has worked. I have noticed a difference when I use as directed.
Eight minutes in, and I know nothing about this product. I recently purchased a bunch of Inkey List products from Sephora, and I was very disappointed that the peptides in the ingredient list (of the protide moisturizer) was so very far down in the list. So, I guess what I'm asking is, is Inkey List a good brand? Do they make false claims and/or statements? Should i move on to another brand? I'm trying to lift and firm my skin, repair years of damage from smoking.
I've used it and it works wonders for me. With no stinging this product plumps my lips up where parts of my lips that don't normally touch are touching slightly so it feels kinda weird. It does suck if some gets in your mouth where you can taste it tho lol
Honestly, I still think the “after” video of the founder is a Botox lip flip 🙈 or something similar lol. The vermilion border on her top lip is higher and there’s so much more lip show, her smile is less gummy too. Yes, she is positioning her lips differently too, but this just not look like something a lip product could do imo! 🤷🏼♀️ who knows
I’m not sure if it is with every woman, but my lips get much fuller one week before the end of my monthly cycle. So I’m not sure this before and after can be reliable really.
I used this for about two weeks and had to stop. In my case it was because it was working really well and I discovered that I actually didn't like how big my lips looked! I didn't get the gravy taste but it was a weird taste that I only noticed about the fifth day of using it.
This made my lips super peely and dry. Ended up needing to use a different product for the next few days to moisturize and get them back to normal. Do not recommend.
I am a lip product junkie...bought it 4 weeks ago and wanted to love it. After a few days, my lips were soooo dry. Really disappointing, not impressed! I went back to using a peptide serum with cerave healing ointment on top...back to soft plump lips.
So, IL is using peptides (which may have long term effects) as a buzz word, with HA and similar ingredients, plus a non-spicy irritant, for a temporary effect?
If you have a smaller top lip then getting filler just in the top lip will make them more symmetrical, that's the entire point! I wouldn't let them talk me into getting filler in my bottom lip as well when I like that as it is!
I dont know if you notice the photos, but every “after” photo was photographed a little more below than “before” picture. Try take picture of your lips straight and then a little below and they will look bigger.
Hi James, first of all love your channel…😁 I’m wondering if you have an opinion on the Inkey List’s Retinol serum verses the Ordinary’s Retinol and when first staring out what strength should one begin with if going with the Ordinary? I quit using my prescription Retin-a because it could not be verified as cruelty free and I feel it was just a bit to strong for my skin.
The only OTC retinoid/retinol products I've used are Differin & CeraVe Resurfacing Serum. Differin was way too strong for my skin - I was peeling like crazy, had some bleeding, etc. The CeraVe is barely noticeable to the point I honestly wonder if it's doing anything? But my skin is in a stable place, not breaking out, etc so I'm not about to stop using it in case it's been helping.
I've always found the Gayle Hayman lip balm very plumping in a lovely way. It doesn't look like I've used an irritating lip plumper but it's a very visible difference in the mirror and in photos. In saying that, I straight up can't afford it myself so a more affordable alternative would be WONDERFUL, gravy taste and all
I live on Canada so we have different brands (even more so because I live in Quebec, we have some different options than other provinces but also not some of the brands they have) but I find the Emu Dundee lip balm to be very slightly plumping. Not irritated at all I actually find it incredibly soothing and aids in healing on my prone to dryness, often irritated from just existing, sensitive af lips. It just leaves them looking incredibly hydrated and full. Even if I'm actually dehydrated makes my lips look juicy. It leaves a slight shine and slip but also applies well under most lip products. It is not marketed as something that makes your lips so I was pleasantly surprised by how nice my mouth looked after. I have a genetic condition that makes my skin very dry, thin and prone to random ass reactions so I can't use plumping balms. Besides I'd rather my lips looks juicy and hydrated, just a bit more full maybe even youthful than like I just got stung by a bee or drank a bottle of dangerously spicy hot sauce. Even my boyfriend noticed how my lips looked extra nice when I first started using it. He complemented them saying they looked extra cute and plump, asking if I tried a plumping gloss or maybe just had a popsicle (the cold and sucking action always makes my lips a bit plumper when eating a popsicle, just very sensitive skin. Honestly that would be a good comparison to the effect.) I feel like boyfriends and male friends noticing these things is a good test of effectiveness😂 I am not sure if you can get the brand Emu Dundee outside of Quebec or Canada but I'm sure similar emu oil and lanolin based balms in other countries too. It also does have a slight gravy taste... Which admittedly I kinda love.
@@RodneyAndMeVideos it's a subtle difference but does remind me of these product photos, probably mostly from filling gaps in the skin as they said in their video is likely a lot of this balms effect too. It doesn't leave my skin red at all just hydrated as hell. Here it's like 9$ at the pharmacy. It is a very soft stick formula in a weird tube heads up tho if you get the same brand (as far as I could tell quickly searching there are a few emu balm brands out there that seem similar enough.) If you remember those old bonne bell lipsticks that looked kinda like a lighter, and you pressed down on this thing in the side, a flap slides over and the lipsticks comes out? It's like that. Bonus is you never loose the lid bit negative is it can open itself in your pocket if you accidentally slide the thingy open. But personally I find it kinda fun, feels like a tiny light saber or something for my mouth lol
What a great video! Loved the input from a consumer & science perspective, well done. 😊 Don’t think I’ll be buying this lipbalm now, I was intrigued but will just keep using my regulars.
I'm extremely happy with this lip balm personally, it actually worked for me, I can definitely see a difference in my lips being more plumped, hydrated and defined, I love it! I even like the taste 😊
I bought it and I agree that it’s nothing special. I feel a little stupid for believing a new product would be so amazing and fill the lines around my mouth. Thank you for giving the information I needed to know it’s just another gloss, no magic in a tube.
Any brand that lies about lip plumping is automatically cancelled to me. I've had thin lips that retract to fully expose my gigantic teeth and gums. All my life I've been looking for a way to look normal. I'd rather spend $300 twice a year on lip fillers to get the results I want, instead of spending half that on useless products and getting disappointed every time.
I was set to buy one that just came out for $45 so I’m fine with trying this…I have filler and am not getting a top up this year because I just don’t feel I need it. It’s interesting though if my lips are dry how deflated they look so just need a good hydration and if it has a little plumping effect, all the better. As for the taste, I’ll try dipping my finger in flavor water packet and rub on lips to see if that helps
I have a silly question, is it good to use the inkey list and Korean beauty ? I want to get a moisturizer from inkey list and I use a cleanser and toner from cosrx
I like The Inkey List and I've bought the peptide lip product. Thanks for mentioning the thinning of the product. I had problems with their oat cleanser separating in the tube and not coming out consistently. Thanks for Michelle's explanation which, for me, is cautionary. I don't think I like the chili oil content.
I feel like some of the results are down to constant moisturisation of the lips? I always feel my lips look plumper when I’ve used more balms and stuff.
People are very into lip products at the moment. Meanwhile, I can't find a color that looks good on me! They all look orange on me!!! 😢 Any thoughts??? Anyone??
I personlly love the lip oil from Inn Beauty in the shade "Cinnamon Bun", the shade is the perfect your lips but better. Their formula is also very hydrating and nourishing.
Same! I've found a few over the years but ofc they were discontinued. L'Oreal had a red shade called Drumbeat Red and it was gorgeous. Very cool toned and as it wore off it would be a bluish-pink colour. I have a cpl tubes that I bought years ago and I ration them lol. MAC had a prolongwear called Purrpetuate and it was similar. But again, discontinued. There is an overabundance of warm/orange and neutral reds it seems. I loathe them. I've also noticed they also make teeth look yellow, even if the colour suits the person. Blech
I’d make your own. A little color theory, experimentation, and some packaging…you’ll be golden with bespoke colors!! I’d buy a versagel base, and some lake colorants/ Fd&c colors for a tinted lip gloss. Some on Amazon are okay, but TKB has some of the best Veragel. Their oil mix is perfect to balance the viscosity, and gives awesome shine. For a lip cream, I’d buy a base at TKB or Making Cosmetics, same color recommendation. Matte liquid lipstick, definitely Making Cosmetics. I love their base. It’s great to get some extra Isododecane, especially if you are using premixed lakes/F d&c colors, because they are dispersed in oil, it will help bring back the matte! Price out the things you have tried that don’t work. Now, price out what you need to make your own. DIY is way cheaper, and then you can make a ton more custom. Invest in yourself.
I have the same problem! My favorite I've found is Loreal Color Riche in the shade "Matt-itude", it's cool toned browny purple shade. My other favorite is Noodie Patootie in Wet n Wilds Catsuit liquid lipstick but it's too drying. Wish I could find the same color in a bullet lipstick
Thank you so much for having me on your channel! 😊💜

Please what is that yellow and white book on your table that says “skincare” ?
I appreciate what you do so much ❤
Got to say I absolutely loved Kelly’s contribution. Would be here for more of her reviews she was great
I hope she’ll come back! 🙏🏼🙏🏼💜
I’d REALLY Like to know about what she uses on her hair!! It’s absolutely GORGEOUS!!
Yeah I mean if it smells bad and it gets in your mouth too might as well return it lol
I have it and it's great but I'm worried if I kiss someone they'll wonder why I taste like plastic
Heavy on the taste thing, personally I feel like it tastes like castor oil
I got used to it but yeah it's definitely weird
i just got this as a birthday gift i does smell weird but it’s very hydrating and i recommend
I also find it quite annoying that all of their packaging is the exact same, I own the retinol serum and a moisturizer and am constantly accidentally putting the retinol on my face instead of the moisturizer, makes it kinda annoying especially when you're in a rush to get to work
For me it was the opposite 😭 the oil or whatever it was in it separated and made everything come out too easy , it was so grim
Exactly! I love this lip balm
Vaseline seals moisture, doesn't add moisture.
@@ambermitchell5838Petrolatum stops trans epidermal water loss, increasing skin hydration as a result. It also helps restore barrier function so the skin can rehydrate itself.
Exactly yessssss and I found that putting some on my finger tip and really messaging it into my lips is great !
@@skinsciencebymirathat’s exactly what they said lol
Michelle and James in the same video - what a match made in heaven 😉
I've been using this lip balm for well over a month now and I like it. The taste doesn't bother me at all.
But these before and after pics look more dramatic than my actual lip filler 😂
I saw this at boots and i wanted to wait for someone credible to cover this product before i made an impulse purchase 😂
LOL I've finally learn to exercise this level of control and its glorious
This in my cart for Sephora sale. Good thing I have not checkout yet. 😂 Sitting down to this with popcorn.
Same! Almost bought this yesterday! I need self control and need to research more before parting with my hard earned money 😂
Thank you for sharing, I was hoping it would help with dry lips, so you saved me money
And haven't had any dead skin on my lips since I started using it, it's now my favorite lip balm
if i drink enough water my lips are plumper, if i am dehydrated they become a thin line. so alleged results might be due to other circumstances.
It's like James knows when I'm brewing my morning cup of coffee but I need a little bit of tea to go with it 💜😉
My peptide serum has the same peptides that are in this lip product.
What peptide serum do you use? 🩷
@@whateverokei Advanced Clinicals
I do the same with my Stratia Interface!
I figure that my lips are skin so not only do I take skincare down my neck and chest and hands, but also pat some of them on my lips. I’m glad I’m not the only one.
We achieved, within 2-3 months, not using a tripeptide, but using volufiline [and then Adifill], a really nice, visible effect of... filled, fleshy, plump lips. And it works because it affects fat cells. We know that people with good results also use these ingredients on their breasts.
@@AndromedaApokalipsy Is it topical? If not, no thanks.
I tried it without seeing all the hype/controversy and every time I use it I feel my lips are softer, lines filled in, and definitely appear more plump than usual so works well for me 😅
But the same could be done with other good lip products that cost much less.
Yeah same here, I’ve been using it for around 2 months as my regular lip balm and I’ve seen so much more difference than when I was using my really loved La Roche Posay lip balm.
@@mariaelhosry1279did you lips become bigger?
23:45 THIS MOMENT BRINGS ME SO MUCH JOY
Niod also has a lip serum that claims to Improve the look of lip color, volume, and texture.
I tried that a few years ago and saw no difference in my lips and it was over 50 euros for a 15ml bottle 🤯
I'm so over any lip product, I feel like putting my hydrating face products on the contour of my lips is enough for me, also I don't have dry lips since I've stopped using lip balms, so that is my take. 😅
“It came pouring out” omg like in Cabinet of Curiosities The Outside episode with the Alo Glow 😮 lol. A good creepy episode watch for those who love beauty and skin care and don’t mind a little blood. Some blood. It was a great episode!
Labmuffin beauty is amazing!!! Learned sooooo much about sunscreen and conditioner from her that has helped me immensely
Can you please let us know what are these other products? 😊

I love the Rimmel eyebrow pencils, but i cannot find them anymore and it kills me
Do you mean the crayon Just Bitten Kissable lip stains? They still exist! My mom got one off Amazon recently and there’s a whole new range of colours.
@@jartecus I do! It's so weird that they're on Amazon, though. They're not on the Revlon website at all.
I'm absolutely the same! I'm not brave enough to use them now.
It’s kind of spendy but I love the Rhode lip treatment
I use either Vaseline or DCT (the OG peach tub only)
Try a nipple cream.
No tint or plumping or anything though
Edit: I also get crazy bad hangnails during the winter too! Highly reccomend Sally Hansen's cuticle cream or some other cutle butter if you struggle with hangnails, way less messy than cuticle oil so much more convenient to apply on the go
@@Mrskess I have actually heard of this, the lanolin or whatever seems to be a great ingredient! I’ll give it a shot :))
As someone who purchased this and has been using it for around 3-4 weeks here’s my review:
As a lip balm, it’s not super moisturising like it claims to be.
I've been eyeing the Burt's at the store, thanks for the recco!
I like burts bee lip balms too
I love Michelle at Lab Muffin Beauty Science. She's one of my favorite things that I have learned about watching your channel.
(And they just work)
Looove the summer fridays too. Viral for a reason.
@@thejulietocean right? I got a backup today during the Sephora sale 🤭🫣
The collab we didn’t know we needed !!! James Welsh and Michelle aka Lab Muffin !!! So here for it !!!
Never before
A dynamic duo! I appreciate you both so much!! 💜😊
Yesss!!
I’ve so waited for this, thank you so much 🥰
Edit:
Thank you for this thorough analysis, it helped a lot understanding this - in my opinion - awful and untrue marketing.
I’m very sad that it’s not some magic item because I’ve been suffering from my dry lips forever and nothing seems to help. I’ve gotten in a good routine but missing literally one day of it and they’re back to flaking and bloody. A magic lip balm is really what I’m still looking for 🥲
Oh and also: didn’t realize any taste, but it does smell kinda gross.
I did repurchase because it helps plump my natural thin lips. It also made my lips pinkier since I smoke a lot.
I'm so surprised they didn't put a hint of flavour in it! Have you tried the new Ordinary barrier support serum? (the pink one), interested in your thoughts
He talked about it in his recent hits and shits video

I feel I’ve wasted my money😭
On the other hand, I really enjoyed this video and the segments with Kelly and Michelle!!
Loved the format of the video. You need more of these. Especially with @labmuffinbeauty
I’ve never shopped Inkey list. They’ve had so many recalls and incidents of deceptive marketing. More than any skincare brand in recent history…
👏 woo James! Love it when it’s a detailed review and special guests! Woohoo!
I got it sent to me before it launched! I wouldn’t say I had a visible difference but I could definitely feel a major difference. But I stopped using it and all the effects went away. Definitely been meaning to go back to it. I wish it smelled better
Thanks for featuring Michelle, I follow her IG and YT channels and she is the best!
What a great video, James! Loved the format, the research, the different opinions, and how undramatic it was (as always). 👏
I got this lip balm around 2 months so, but I did buy it thinking the b/a were a little over-blown. The taste doesn't bother me now, but it did at first. I am so used to a lip balm with flavor. I DO like it as a lip mask for night. It does a better job than my normal chapstick.
Hello. Good Afternoon James 💜 Happy Thursday 💜
I noticed the taste at the beginning but not any more. I do not like the packaging, I squeeze a little out on my finger to apply. I apply it when I go to bed and the next morning I swear my lips look a little plumper butt I wouldn’t say it’s worked long term.
Amazing video, James!
Honestly it's gross, but I have a tube of it to get through so I'll persevere....
this is perfect timing because i was literally about to buy this
Mine had gritty bits in it!
I applied a bright red lip yesterday (Maybeline Matte Ink) for the first time in ages (between applications) and definitely noticed better application and a plumper, more defined top lip (I’m like your guest and hate my thin top lip 😭)
I’ve not noticed much around the taste or smell - but I wonder if it’s like coriander/cilantro and there’s an ingredient that some people just pick up on more strongly?
Kellie is amazing! She needs to be on more of your reviews
Michelle of Lab muffin beauty science: the best!!!!
Same thing happened to me!
I am a lip product junkie...bought it 4 weeks ago and wanted to love it. After a few days, my lips were soooo dry. Really disappointing, not impressed!
I went back to using a peptide serum with cerave healing ointment on top...back to soft plump lips.
Mine have never been so dry since trying this 😢
So, IL is using peptides (which may have long term effects) as a buzz word, with HA and similar ingredients, plus a non-spicy irritant, for a temporary effect?
tried it for 5 weeks and it didn`t do anything for me but making my lips kind of dry. good thing I did not notice any weird smell :D
Michelle!!!!!! What a fabulous collaboration 🥰
Thank you so much for the education!!! ❤
this is such a fun deep dive, i love hearing more about the science of things!
Hi James, first of all love your channel…😁
I’m wondering if you have an opinion on the Inkey List’s Retinol serum verses the Ordinary’s Retinol and when first staring out what strength should one begin with if going with the Ordinary?
I quit using my prescription Retin-a because it could not be verified as cruelty free and I feel it was just a bit to strong for my skin.
The only OTC retinoid/retinol products I've used are Differin & CeraVe Resurfacing Serum. Differin was way too strong for my skin - I was peeling like crazy, had some bleeding, etc. The CeraVe is barely noticeable to the point I honestly wonder if it's doing anything? But my skin is in a stable place, not breaking out, etc so I'm not about to stop using it in case it's been helping.
Off topic but the Destiny’s Child reference is what I live for 🤣 You’re a Beyoncé to all of us ❤
That was wondrous 😂
Honestly that would be a good comparison to the effect.) I feel like boyfriends and male friends noticing these things is a good test of effectiveness😂
I am not sure if you can get the brand Emu Dundee outside of Quebec or Canada but I'm sure similar emu oil and lanolin based balms in other countries too. It also does have a slight gravy taste... Which admittedly I kinda love.
@@erik7647 oh that sounds perfect! I'll look that up right now. Yeah, you know the gravy taste didn't sound half bad to me haha
@@erik7647 tiny light saber for my mouth omg I need to find this 😭
What a great video!
This is exactly how I felt with this lip balm. Too oily for me, I don't like the taste and I noticed no difference.
Same problem with that cleanser, assumed it’s because it’s a ‘balm’
🤣@@magpiesneedle2575 Good one!
Love Michelle with James 😍❤
I feel like some of the results are down to constant moisturisation of the lips? I always feel my lips look plumper when I’ve used more balms and stuff.
People are very into lip products at the moment. Meanwhile, I can't find a color that looks good on me! They all look orange on me!!! 😢 Any thoughts??? Anyone??
I personlly love the lip oil from Inn Beauty in the shade "Cinnamon Bun", the shade is the perfect your lips but better. Their formula is also very hydrating and nourishing.
Try finding cool toned shades (if the product has a colour description)
You could try to chill the tube of lip balm in the fridge.
