    I started following your RUclips site late its 2022 and I now watching this after our New Year, so much I could say but first this site is amazing and tragic I was shocked to hear that you lost Andrew I don't know how you can go on......but I am glad you have♥. You now have your gorgeous daughter with you and that is a blessing. Andrea your interviews are brilliant and I have learn so much, more then I ever thought possible. I am just learning how to knit I am more of a natural crocheter but I am going to try to knit continental and see how that works for me. ♥♥ from Alberta Canada!!!

    Wow, Andrea and Andrew, for a very interesting podcast. Seeing what you did to make your sweater work was amazing. When I've done a patterned area, such as the roses, I've used a combination of fair isle technique and intarsia.
    The interview with Deborah Newton is really interesting. I've just seen Kristy Glass's podcasts about Block Island and the yarn business there so I'm very interesting in checking out their retreats and seeing if it is possible to attend Deborah's! Again, thanks for your podcasts!

I really liked the interview and your description of the best teacher being one that feels fullfilment and just wants to give of his/her knowledge to the student. Love, love, love the way Andrea fits her jumpers. Always think that if a jumper doesn't flatter the model's midriff in the pattern photo, what chance do we have of avoiding looking like a sack o' spuds done up in expensive yarn?

  • @emilybeaton2947
    @emilybeaton2947 4 года назад +1

    Suzanne Bryan has a good video on intarsia in the round. Basically you are combining flat knitting for the motif within the in-the-round item.

  • @liliawebb9377
    @liliawebb9377 5 лет назад

    Great ideas and workmanship on the roses and the puckering problem! Well done! I'm not that accomplished that far and intarsia seems far beyond me. I'd think in duplicate stitch and embroidery. To each his own till there is greater experience. I'm tucking away this new knowledge, thank you!
    On yoke sweaters I have a larger bust and always have trouble with them lying flat and tend to roll up forming a ridge between the bottom of the yoke and the neck. You can pull it down and stand and it looks right but you get moving about and it moves up to form that ridge. Do the decreases help alleviate that? I've heard raglan shaping would help but I'm wondering if you can address that?

  • @kathleenkaar6557

    Andrea, I was interested to observe the challenge you had with the longer floats across your small roses. Since you have taught us how to catch floats in fair isle (not going more than a couple of stitches without catching them), I am curious as to why you didn’t apply the same technique here in your intarsia. When I was taught intarsia, that was what I was told to do. Taking it one step further, I was also taught to “carry colors” sort of fair isle style, so that they would be where I needed them when I came back on the next row. I found that “looking ahead to the next row” was quite a headache, and I have not been a fan of intarsia....I think this is why Marie Wallin rated her Blossom sweater as difficult.

  • @johnno49
    @johnno49 6 лет назад

    You solved the intarsia problem very cleverly. Another solution, admittedly non-knitting, would be to do the entire yoke in the base colour and embroider the flowers either in duplicate stitch, or (better I think) in cross stitch over the base. Whatever you do, you would of course have to deal with tucking in the ends, but I think cross stitch would leave you the least ends to bother with. Needless to say, you’d do the cuffs and waist band in cross stitch as well!

    If you would like to change colors in the collar and avoid the opposite color purl bumps, just knit a complete row in the new color. It won't be noticeable in the finished rib ;)

    I actually like your version of the sweater better. I think it looks much more flattering without the larger grey field right below the neckline. I also like your shade of green a lot better. Very beautifully knitted. I think I would try to knit the whole sweater without the roses and later on just embroider them onto the finished garment. I love to embroider :-) P.S. Your daughters swaeter looks adorable. It does look very big. I think it would fit myself right now, lol. I weigh about 53 Kilos and I am 160cm tall. So I can ofter wear childrens size clothing, haha. It is an advantage sometimes.

    I am not in any way trying to second guess Andrea, but just wondering if duplicate stitching the roses wouldn't have been easier from the get-go - not quicker probably, but easier on just the plain grey background ? Has anyone tried that on such a detailed pattern?
