Oh my god just watched the clip after watching the episode and that bit where he says "You never could though, could you?" means so much now! Such fantastic writing and acting!
Yes, only just caught onto that bit, too. @gabrielavelandia1075, he knew his dad was a monster, so he hid so well nobody could find him. It wasn't a game to him.
wasn't there the exact same line in Benidorm? Did Steve help with some of the writing for the series I wonder. As I recall it was Martin who said it with exactly the same kind of out of place, uncomfortable reading.
Really happy about this new series. Glad that they're not playing all the characters themselves, they've done that before. Cleverly written and acted, a game of sardines must be hard to keep going over half an hour on screen. The sign of a good, unlazily written, comedy is that the time just flies by, that's what I found with this. The BBC get it right now and then, for me, with comedy. It's no Vicar of Dibley or One Foot In The Grave*, but that's probably just as well and nothing like the puerile smut that graces BBC 3, as it's on BBC 2. (* I like One Foot In The Grave)
Super excited to get to start watching. Can't wait to see more of the kooky characters that Steve and Reece write, and there are so many brilliant actors!
Avi Kolapo => In the wardrobe at the end of the episode, they talk about how Rebecca's father was accused of sexually abusing a child called Pip. Apparently, the father also raped Stinky John (in a shower, hence why he doesn't bathe anymore, he's traumatized) and Rebecca's brother, aka his own son. Then Rebecca's fiancee says that he needs to pick up his friend Ian who cannot make it to the party without him. Everyone else is like "but, Ian is here, that's the boring dude with glasses right ?" and the fiancee answers "No, that's doesn't sounds like Ian at all". The guy with glasses isn't Ian, he's actually Pip, one of the child raped by Rebecca's father. And he's back to take his revenge on his rapist basically. It's just sad that in the process, he kills everyone else ...
Also, earlier in the episode, Rebecca talks about having a sister who could not make it. It's specified that said sister has children, boys. On a second viewing, it's pretty clear that the sister refused to come because she did not want to risk her children's safety, since her father is a pedophile that seems to only target little boys (since Rebecca seems to be the only person who wasn't assaulted by her father).
It's a black comedy with each episode being set in a different time and place with different characters and a different cast. It's written by Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith who play a character in each episode, and each episode is set in a place related to the number nine.
British shows are always so... well, British. Ugly wallpaper and plain looking middle aged people who look like your local grocer. Not complaining, it’s just odd how reliable those qualities are. Then Peaky Blinders comes out of nowhere.
Don't read further than this comment if you don't want to know how the episode ends.
Andrew David Boyle ty for being the top comment
andrew you are a real hero
Thanks

Excellent as always very "Tales of the Unexpected" which kept me glued to the tv when I was young
Imagine having a wardrobe so large that several people can fit into it.
*laughs in Narnian*
This is great banter! It really is.
And now all 3 have been on taskmaster, which is fun.
Who's the woman?
@@FrumiousBandersnatch42 Katherine Parkinson she was on the 10th series of Taskmaster

Hello Jen.
Super excited to get to start watching. Can't wait to see more of the kooky characters that Steve and Reece write, and there are so many brilliant actors!
I hope you enjoyed it
that is just odd, and slightly serial killery
you say that like its a bad thing
Well, yeah. Spot on!
This becomes dark when you realise they are all burnt alive by Ian
***** it also shows dark undertones in the dialogue, hinting at child abuse, incest etc...
duude, spoilers
Yeah, I never got why he burned them. I didn't get what they said about him in the wardrobe

+Jennie Lovegood There is a touch of horror/suspense as well, right?
Josie Costello Yeah it starts off as a comedy and ends with a dark twist
Josie Costello it’s a horror/comedy anthology series
😂

Connor Delaney it’s not a sitcom it’s a horror comedy
Are you American? Or Irish?
britisch Humor sucks 😷
Mohamed Abdulkadir so does your spelling
your mom sucks
Of course. That's why we made The Inbetweeners, The Office, The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh, Little Britain... They're all so terrible. Not.
Stop remaking all our shows then
