Nigel, this is my second day playing alto sax, starting completely from zero and thanks to your online lessons I'm already managing to play !!! Unbelievable. Let me tell you: you're a great teacher, my man!
This is great! Love that you included the backing track. I've been playing the drums for years, but my dad has played alto most of his life. I tried it in fourth grade, and gave up because - well, band class was boring! This afternoon, I borrowed my dad's first alto, a Martin from the late '40s, which was recently re-padded and serviced, and am starting with your "First notes" video and then on to this. Cheers!
Great stuff! I sometimes go back to early lessons just to go back to basics for a while. Watching this takes me back to 5 years ago working through this lesson and the satisfaction of making it through and how it felt like the beginnings of making real music - progress! ❤️🎷
Great stuff. I haven't played in 40 years and this was a great reintroduction. I must say I've Never heard a instructor advise a a deep breath like Coughing or doing a Big Poo LOL LOL Too funny!
You're very welcome! I’m glad this lesson is helping. Lots more free lessons to help you further inside our Saxophone Tool Kit too: www.saxschool.online/the-ultimate-saxophone-tool-kit-2-0
I learned the first few notes on my third go around 😊 I think I need to change my reed though, mine doesn't sound as crisp as yours, or maybe it's because I have an eastar saxophone from Amazon 😅
wow...I really like your method....can you give us a pdf of this lesson and the music to download in our computer to practice? planning to sign next month to your school
Hello,I am a retiree and very crazy on how to play this wonderful instrument the sax,how do I go about it,is the online lesson enough or do I have to still get a physical trainer?
Hi. We have thousands of people who learn just with us. Some also have a personal teacher or play in local bands. Best thing is to just get started and see how you go. You can try Sax School for 14 days free here: saxschoolonline.com
This is great. Really got my daughter engaged and playing quickly. Her new Yamaha seems to be a half-step flat compared to you and the backing track. Any idea as to why? Her cheap Mendini was in tune but played and sounded terrible. Now she sounds great, but is flat. Thx!
That depends on your saxophone. If you have an alto sax - you are in Eb. If you have the larger Tenor sax, you are in Bb. We have lessons for both inside Sax School and some great tools to help you transpose between them too.
I would love to sign up for a membership but I travel for work a lot and would miss days or weeks worth of lessons, so a monthly or even yearly membership would not work for me. Is there a lifetime access to the lessons?
Hi Casey. With Sax School PRO you have access to our full library of lessons which you can use any time. And our live sessions are recorded - so you never need to miss anything. We have a lifetime option but our annual membership is great value.
Nice lesson and song. I'll show this to my oldest daughter. Better than learning Hot Cross Buns or anything like "Happy C sharp". Thank you very much Nigel!
LOL- I've played trombone in high school and 20 years later, in a local community band for 10 years. Yesterday, I picked up an alto sax for fun (because I wanted to play 80s pop song solos. Now I'm just barely getting thru this video. Awesome lesson! thank you
Yeah, I've since learned that sax is what's called a transposed instrument. Either in Eb or Bb. So it's not concert pitch... helps with switching between the different instruments I guess, but a silly mechanic if you ask me. If the sheet music says play G, I want to play a concert G 😂

Nice beginner tune. Better than playing Hot Cross Buns, what I learned when I started. Thanks!
Ha - yes a bit more fun than that (I started with Hot Cross Buns too!)
Ha! Ha! Too funny! My oldest daughter loves your videos. I introduced her to sax and she loves it.

very nice nd simple 💙😍
My sound isn’t on the same pitch. Is my sax not tuned properly? I have a slade. says it’s in em
What key is this tune in?
Thankyou sir..are you teaching sax online?
Sure. We have a whole online saxophone school here: saxschoolonline.com.
I want to buy a saxophone, what tuning do I need for your classes, Bb or Eb
That depends on your saxophone. If you have an alto sax - you are in Eb. If you have the larger Tenor sax, you are in Bb. We have lessons for both inside Sax School and some great tools to help you transpose between them too.
You’re an amazing teacher though
Thanks!
Hi Nigel, I’m already signed up but can’t find the pdf on the members website?
Hi. It’s in our Starter Pathway inside Sax School Pro. Shoot us over a message inside the member area if you need help finding it.
it will me better for us if u put the notes and show it and for me its hard to understand what note it is
Hey what key is this in?

Is this an actual song? If yes, what's it's name?
Nice lesson and song. I'll show this to my oldest daughter. Better than learning Hot Cross Buns or anything like "Happy C sharp". Thank you very much Nigel!
Did you know the name of the song?
Hi
❤️
Australian accent is taking over the world xD
Ha!
😁
a saxophone lesson
Man idk why I’m watching this, I don’t even have a saxophone, I play trombone
Ha!
LOL- I've played trombone in high school and 20 years later, in a local community band for 10 years. Yesterday, I picked up an alto sax for fun (because I wanted to play 80s pop song solos. Now I'm just barely getting thru this video. Awesome lesson! thank you
I suck at this:(
Me too, but the only way for us to not suck is to keep trying, right?
Those notes arent accurate. Its a Bb, not a G
My band friends who play sax also say it’s G?
Yeah, I've since learned that sax is what's called a transposed instrument. Either in Eb or Bb. So it's not concert pitch... helps with switching between the different instruments I guess, but a silly mechanic if you ask me. If the sheet music says play G, I want to play a concert G 😂
