In the early days of the web, when network speed was typically measured in baud, web performance focused solely on how long it took to load a page. But the internet has evolved and browsers now support everything from web pages to real-time, multiplayer games to complex applications like Photoshop that used to require local installation. Web performance has also evolved and is no longer just about loading speed.
In this fireside session, Annie Sullivan (Senior Staff Engineer, Google) will join Rick Klein (Senior Engineering Manager-RUM SDKs, Datadog) to talk about web performance, what we should measure, and how we should be measuring it. They’ll examine modern performance metrics and uncover what they really mean. You’ll learn how to move beyond the numbers to approach web performance in a way that is meaningful to your users.
