    When it comes to baking things like cakes, cookies, and brownies idc if the recipe isn't one pot, I'm MAKING it one pot (with maybe a small bowl on the side for melting butter if necessary) 😂 I'll usually bake the recipe as instructed once, but after that it's wet ingredients --> mix --> dry ingredients --> mix and DONE lol

      I guess this has been working out for you so far, but in baking the order and method of addition of ingredients really is important! Cakes use a different method than cookies due to the necessity of aeration in cakes for ultimate fluff, pies use a different method for ultimate flakiness, etc! Would be fun to experiment and see the different results you'd get with various techniques :)

      @@pricessLeopard112 Oh yes, that's the whole fun of it! I'm an avid baker and almost went to school for it-- I love experimenting with ingredient order to see how closely I can replicate the original while still having it in one bowl lol But since it's just home baking, I'm really not fussed if it doesn't turn out perfect; as long as it tastes good!

    I'm not a professional baker but I have found that in my experience it doesn't make a big difference if you mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. How I make most recipes a one pot situation is mixing butter and sugar first, then I add the eggs, then the baking powder/soda and then the rest such like flour. So far this has worked well for me.

    Responding about the Always Pan in case anyone is curious: I had one for over two years and was similarly brutal in my treatment of it. I pretty much cooked with it almost exclusively during that time. The non-stick totally gave out after a year and a half. (I wasn't putting it through the dishwasher often, actually, maybe only once or twice -- I mostly hand washed.) I liked it while it lasted because I bought it when I had a shared kitchen living situation where I wouldn't have had room to store more pans and pots, so having an all-rounder with the lid and steamer basket was actually useful, but I didn't repurchase when I ultimately threw it out. My thinking is that non-stick surfaces in general simply don't last forever, so my one non-stick small pan now is an inexpensive one that I won't be sad to part with when it starts to deteriorate. I only invest the kind of money Always Pan charges is in pans I expect to literally last a lifetime, like my cast iron pan, my dutch oven, and my seriously high quality stainless saucepan. Of course, I now have my own kitchen, so I am able to store more than one pan -- it's not a terrible option for someone who's working with one designated cabinet in a shared space.

      I'm assuming you're American or Canadian - would you be able to explain what a 'casserole' is? I've heard Americans use it before but I don't think it means the same thing as how we would use it in the UK. E.g. to us a casserole is like a meat stew. Thank you!

    • @Naomi-ce4rp
      @Naomi-ce4rp Год назад +1

      @@GemBob123 Hi Gemma. Canadian here. Casseroles are basically a pasta/rice/potato combination with a number of different proteins, veg or not, usually a sauce or just a lot of cheese is added and then it's baked all together in the oven. Example of a popular casserole is tuna noodle. You cook the noodles first, add canned tuna, probably peas and a lot of people use tinned soup. Then pop in the oven for about 30 minutes all combined in a big dish and bake.

    My one pot is a chorizo, artichoke rice number that’s super easy: first cut the chorizo in mini bits and put in a frying pan (no need for oil, as chorizo has loads). Now add onions, cut small, then when translucent/cooked, add enough rice (for two, it’s 3/4 of a mug, but we’re big eaters). Then after a few seconds, coated in all the oil and redness of chorizo, add a glass of white wine (facultative), then enough water to cover + 1/2 cm. Let it boil and add a stock cube (chicken best). Finally, after 15 min or so (rice must be cooked, so usually after around 6 or 7 min, I add again water plus a bit to cover rice). Reduce the heat once the water boils and it should cook nicely, risotto style without too much stirring or interfering. Finally at the end, add lots of fresh parsley, and small artichoke hearts (usually found in a jar, or sometimes in tins) cut into bite size. Stir everything through and serve warm. Easy and delish.

    Non-stick pans are not meant to last forever unfortunately. The coating will eventually wear away and it isn’t good to cook with it at that point because the coating is toxic to eat. They’re just the kind of pan that needs to be replaced every couple years. If you want a pan that lasts go with cast iron or carbon steel.

    • @hannahk1306

      I've got a non-stick pan that I've had for about 6 years that's still going strong - food still doesn't stick to the bottom unlike my regular pans and the coating isn't peeling off. There are decent long-lasting non-stick pans, but unfortunately it's difficult to work out which ones before buying them.

    My go to one pot meal is smothered steak and potatoes. It's just cubed steak, you dredge in seasoned flour and brown in pot then add a couple sliced onion and garlic cloves,season with salt and pepper,onion powder,garlic powder,a couple bay leaves,a cube of beef bullion,and 3/4 a box of beef stock....mix remains of stock with a couple of spoons of flour and make a slurry. Let all this cook until steak gets tender then drop chopped potatoes in the pot. Once potatoes are soft remove pot top to let water evaporate until gravy thickens and add a splash of milk or cream. As it sets it will thicken.
