Edit: Already more info on the new policies available in document S-395-E 03/24. It is possible for disfellowshipped ones to be reinstated after three months. Disfellowshipped ones can be studied with by an elder or MS, or mature sister for a disfellowshipped woman.

I've been out for 27 years and my JW mom has been telling me about all these changes. I just say "well that's nice" and once she mentioned me getting reinstated, I think she thinks I still kind of believe and I don't get in any trouble but the truth is I'm totally divorced from the Bible and any gods. I only bring up Bible stuff once or twice a year, one was when she was doing a phone call Bible study with some lady and they were talking about Deborah and how she killed some guy in my sleep and I told her if I take a nap please don't drive a stake through me. I think three GB is going for the LDS model these days.

I emailed the changes to an active JW , he didn’t know them yet. After he watched the update online , he mailed me back how happy he is with a gov body members and that they truly are a faithful and discreet slave and apply Acts 15 not to add any more burden. I never responded to him. It shows that any changes that these guys come up with is a proof that they have “the truth”. While some may wake up, most of them will definitely stay!

Thanks again, Phil, for a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the GB update. As a witness for over 60 years, I find it amusing to see all the modifications. I'm glad to be out now, but am more amazed at how the 'Truth' could be so remade on the whims of a few men.

The micromanagement of people’s lives is really unreal. Although it took over 40 years for my eyes to be opened I am hopeful that many today with the help of the ex JW community will be able to see through the hypocrisy more quickly. This is all about the organization and not the people otherwise they would apologize for all the harm they have wrought over the years. Harm that can never be undone. These changes are just a drop in the proverbial bucket! What about the mistreatment and shunning of those who leave on conscientious grounds and are shunned and lose their families as though they are disfellowshipped? I am one of those.

I personally know of a beautiful young JW girl that was DFd, despite one of the Elders on the JC admitting that they knew for a certainty she was genuinely repentant. The Elders wanted to 'teach her a lesson,' whatever that means.
I hope the lesson she learned is that WT is a cult and the Elders are pond scum.

Seems like baby steps. Given the rising disgust with shunning and CSA, the broken families, the mental health impacts, the suicides and bodily harm happening, one would think they’d move more swiftly. These are just bandaids.

So you have been disfellowshipped for a year or 2 you go to walk onto a hall there are men with beards women with trousers and someone who knows you are disfellowshiped says hello has a quick chat the first thing you do is go back out to see if the sign still says kingdom hall of jws then you go back inside and freak out because you think you have entered a parallel universe

I had to frown angrily and laugh at the same time when he said: they must be very weak spiritually. He has no idea that since I've left, I've found myself and have a deeper relationship with God, the higher being. I'm now stronger than ever, Mark. "New light" is what the constantly use to get away with so much atrocity that when you are associated with religion, you actually become blind, not the other way around. They use and abuse you, control you, take your money for free and get access to your children. It isn't new light that was responsible for making these humongous changes. It's because of the backlash, out cry and activism of ex JWS. It's because they are losing members faster than the donations that are coming in, where they are hemorrhaging money. So to reel ex-members in, they throw different bait at them. It's an organization that has disgustingly likened themselves to being equal to God/Jesus in that whatever they say is written in stone. It's been going on 9 years since I've been out and it's been quite a blessing. Never again. I'm politically as well as religiously neutral, my comfy spot without the control.
I’ve been out for 40 years. When I reached the 30y mark, I was visited by some elders from a congr. I didn’t know (moved to another city where noone know me). Not once in all the other years was I ever contacted. But perhaps it was due to me not being disfellowshipped, but choosing to disassociate myself? 🤔 Then I’m probably considered a dangerous apostate 😂😂

when i left j-dubs years ago in the late 90s, i made the prediction that they'd eventually turn into catholic-flavored protestants...they're effectively there at this point.
I also left in the late 90s. I still pay attention to this crap because my mom is still an active JW and she tries to tell me about these changes. I believe they're going for the LDS model where in the last ten years they've also reduced the restrictions and have made a lot of stuff what we'd can conscience matters. But it's funny how the online JW PR people all mention in their profiles that they're coffee drinkers so the world doesn't mistake them for Mormons.
I've been full blown apostate for almost 30 years and my jw mom has never shunned me, and she tries to tell me about all these changes as if they're surprising good news. I think this might open the floodgates for more JWs who think like her and hate having to shun family.

Notice how they said The governing body will LET publishers use their Bible trained conscience. So they admit the didn’t allow people to use their own conscience. And we all know what happens when something is not used or exercised. NO DOUBT we will find publishers in a weakened spiritual state.

I too am disappointed about the suicides and mistreated minors due to the harsh unloving policies previously weilded upon the brothers and sisters. The way I read this was him saying that he really, really doesn't want people DFed unless at all possible. Speaking through his teeth, ask, "Are you sure?" Over and over again until they say they're sorry and then they can let it go. Then when DF people come back, he wants as few roadblocks as possible. They realize shunning is hurting the numbers and they are willing to compromise their principles to make the numbers bigger again.

It seems to me this is a changing of the guard, just as Rutherford rewrote the religion, abandoning 90% of Russell's teachings, then Knorr took a more modernising approach and changed the face of the religion again, so it seems, younger guys are now changing it again, ironically to look more like 'the world".

Grew up 100% JW. Zero outside relationships. Married very poorly and she used a couple of different bodies of elders to attempt to brow beat me. Took them 3 years but finally i slipped up and was cut off from literally everybody I knew all my life. Disfellowshipping is cruel and unusual punishment especially for people who did it right and shunned all association outside the organization growing up.

Nowhere in the NT does it outline that there should be a 3 man judicial committee formed to determine repentance, then that there be an announcement made to the congregation.
The gentleman in Corinth who was screwing his father's wife was known in the community and the congregation to be actively engaged in that activity, so Paul wrote a letter that was read to the entire congregation to quit socializing with him. In 2 Cor. Paul wrote them again and said the rebuke given the MAJORITY was sufficient and to welcome him back since he stopped the behavior. He was not required to sit at meetings for a year while being ignored and to write a letter requesting reinstatement. nor was there any mention of fellow humans judging his heart condition (repentance)

The Governing Body doesn't have to decide anything about judicial matters. Both Jesus and Paul set out the process scripturally.

There is one true church: the universal church of Believers. I think you might mean "denominations". And there isn't a one true denomination.

Elders has always been reaching out to DFs once a year for years that is nothing new. However, reaching out or scheduling to meet a few months after the committee meeting is New. But if elders are able to reach a person thats DF has been put in place probably before this guy was born.
I have to disagree a bit on blaming the disfellowshiped being a new thing. The minute I started to voice any opposition, I was quickly reminded that all the consequences were my choice etc. I do believe blaming the victim is very integral to the whole shunning idea. There has never been any room to think that anyone could leave for legimate reasons or that there's anything to remedy in the DF arrangement. Therefore the "wrongdoer" chose to be stubborn and leave the obvious paradise of being a witness.

the JW Ministry are reading the writing on the wall particularly the wall in Norway. They can see that if they dont give at least the appearance of "easing up" the human tights violations in regards to shunning and being able to leave a religion without creating psychological issues might get out of control. Of course one major religion does this as well in an even worse way namely the muslims in terms of their "honour murders" and such like. I dont see too many complaints about " human rights " abuses being discussed on that. Maybe thats because the muslins will come after you in vengence.
I am curious if the house 5 doors down from TM in Lumberton N,C, the other house deeded to the religious order of JWs has anybody living there yet? Are they reserving it for Steven Lett? If I recall the WT bought two houses, one for Tony and the other one down the street. Maybe the other one was a hedge investment? To sell and make a profit, cuz it was a brand new subdivision. Could you make a video or share the information about people having suicidal thoughts during the committee... One I was under treatment for severe depression and anxiety prior to my committee and the elders were aware of it. One of them even asked me if I'd rather die or be disfellowship. And I said 100% died. To the point that even my ex husband didn't want to leave me alone in the house cause he knew how I was feeling. And all because I was tired of lying to myself about my sexuality. As I saw it 4 heartless men didn't care about my well-being emotionally or physically.

Of course, you know the answer to your own question. WT tolerates no dissent or "independent thinking". Discipline comes swiftly to any JW that steps out of line. JWs are not grown ups. They need permission to do everything- facial hair, what clothes to wear, etc. - permission from Daddy GB.
