I was in Germany with the US Army of occupation, I found the German people to be a wonderful people, their music, their food and the entire culture I fell in love with, alas, I am not German but I wish the he** I was. God bless the Germans.
I agree with 'wolfof paso', I served 2 years with the British Army of Occupation in Germany and enjoyed every moment of it. If I was not English, I would be very happy to be a German. They have my utmost admiration for their industry and success since WW2. Well done!
The piece was originally written in 1914 by Kenneth Alford. It was accompanied by a counter-melody (known as "The River Kwai March") written by the film's composer, Malcolm Arnold. (wiki)
Kenneth Alford was a nom de plume for Lieutenant (in 1914) Frederick Joseph Ricketts. Incidentally, I enjoy your channel very much....thanks from the USA.
WOW! What a tempo. Imagine marching at that speed. I like the upbeat. Great brass on the trio . . . and the drums are great. Nice arrangement. But again, wouldn't want to march at that tempo
@oldbobg: Bob from 1955 afrer the re-arming of Germany within Nato. British America and French soldiers in Germany were not 'Ocupying forces' They were stationed as part of Nato on equal terms with German Forces. Some of the Best generals within Nato were Germans; ex Whermacht officers with WW2 experience.
@darkmini Comes out at 122bpm. I agree I wouldn't like to play it at that speed on the march, although there are rgiments that do march at those speeds! Used as a "concert march" I wouldn't call that excessive. My personal taste is more toward 112 for marches of this era, or even a slow as 108. Sometimes listening to very old recordings is a bit of a surprise compared to how we hear them today!
@oldbobg: If you Like German Military bands. Try 'Marsch des Yorck'chen corps.' Hear it through to the end. Also 'British army bands in London' both quite spectacular.
Ode From Bart Simpson to his sister: Lisa, her teeth are big and green Lisa, she smells like gasoline Lisa, da-da-da disa, She is my sister, her birthday, I missed-ah!
@TheBritishBulldog That isn't that funny actually because this was some kind of the victory ceremony from NATO over the Warsaw pact. So the most important members of the Alliance were there. And to represent britain this march was chosen.
Let's all sing along Krauts Hitler only has got one ball Goring has two but very small Himmler has something sim'lar poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.
The band does a nice job, but the percussion (drum) part is terrible. Why not use the original?? This new percussion part is out of place and is also very distracting. The arranger should be ashamed of himself/herself.

Love how the British officers are looking on astounded like “are they really playing that?!”

Nice content awesome
German bands can make any tune sound good
Composer: sir Malcolm Henry Arnold ( 1921- 2006) for the film "Bridge over the river Kwaî" (1957).
Ironic that in front of the Brandenburg Gate, they were playing a tune which is used for a song called 'Hitler Has Only Got One Ball'

Bogey is what comes out of a Scottish nose the one that can be rolled and flicked.
Col. Booger (Bogey) March
I always knew,
"Hitler has only got one ball,
the other is in the Albert Hall,
his mother, the dirty bugger,
chopped it off when he was small."
Are you sure about that? It's not the theme tune for the Great escape. This is the British milatary marching song ;)
What is this? A Crossover episode?
Who said Jerry doesn't have a sense of humour!
Ode From Bart Simpson to his sister:
Lisa, her teeth are big and green
Lisa, she smells like gasoline
Lisa, da-da-da disa,
She is my sister, her birthday, I missed-ah!
One thing the Germans do right with any march is to add the Glockenspiel which really improves the overall sound!
Nice I can hear the melody played by the mellophones =D
Tenorhorn :)
Well done Germany :)
Have to resist the urge to sing insult.
Far too quick. Who are they playing it for? The Rifles? Should be 120 beats to the minute
no one marching?
@100ofhoo No, because it isn't!
Hitler has only got one ball.
Goering has two, but very small.
Himmler has something similar,
But poor old Goebbels has no balls at all.
The band of which country ?

I would join in to that every day... Come to Germany and we'll go to an AfD rally and sing it together ;-)
