I'm glad that you gave a little explanation of your choices, especially because I am old and haven't heard of a lot of them, and will be adding them to my TBR pile. But, since I am old, I will now complain about some things:
No Le Guin?! The Earthsea books are so fantastic, especially The Tombs of Atuan. Also, give Guy Gavriel Kay a try, most of his books are duologies or stand alones, and Tigana is great. Jo Walton's The Just City is fantastic as are it's sequels. Same for Sofia Samatar's The Winged Histories.

@@micaelafernandezalvi3855 The book or the movies? The Hobbit book is definitely not on the level of the LotR books but it's still a fantastic book. The movies on the other hand...

"The immensity of Tolkien's importance to the Fantasy Genre aside", The Hobbit is an incredible book.
It is nothing like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. LOTR is an epic of far reaching consequences that is rich in lore and world building.
The Hobbit is closer to a light heated (at least compared with the LOTR trilogy) adventure/underdog story. It is a lot of fun and one of my favorites, but it is a very different type of book from LOTR.

I find your assertion that Tolkien can't compare to Sanderson and Rothfuss to be an utterly delusional take, as Middle Earth is arguably the greatest Fantasy world ever created and he wrote the Quenta Silmarillion because he thought the languages he invented as a linguist needed some background, one of the greatest flexes an author has ever made. Sanderson and Rothfuss produce great work, but Tolkien's work is counted among the Classics of English Literature, a strata the former won't ever reach.

I actually liked this video! Usually your list rec videos come off as kind of scripted and rehearsed (which isn't a bad thing) and this seemed much more off the cuff and casual and cut to the point and that was kind of fun. It was a slightly different side of you just narrating what you were doing instead of talking as directly, intentionally at us. So yeah, cool vid! Not sure what other ratings you would do, but I'd probably watch!

Aww I LOVED Rubyred when I was like 14/15, Gideon and Gwendolyn were literally my everything. They were one of the first fantasy books I ever read, bc they’re originally in German and that’s my native language. I think I would still like them today, if anything for the nostalgia factor, but I get why people wouldn’t like them either, so my heart only hurts a little bit lol

The characters, the banter, the foreshadowing, the political intrigue, character developement, the friendships, plus a nice change from medieval fantasy to a Roman Empire inspired world, and a cool, not too complicated magic system, even if it is not the most original magic system, but I still love it and I think i actually found the series through you years ago. Have you ever heard of Steven Erikson's 'The Malazan Book Of The Fallen'? This is far and away the most ambitious Fantasy series ever written, and it's a world-builders wet dream lol Erikson works as an Archaeologist and Anthropologist when he isn't adding stories to this world, and it shows in his writing, because his grasp of the cyclical nature of civilizations and how they build on each other over time IS SO DEEP.
There's also A LOT of interaction between Gods and Mortals in this series, as Mortals are mere pieces in the Grand Game!

I‘m late wow but I must say I personally absolutely adore the ruby red series. It‘s by a german author and since I‘m german I read the original version and loved it so much. I always thought that there is no way the translation could be even remotely as good as the original since it has a very unique kind of humor that works very well with the german language which is why I could totally see that a lot of it gets lost in translation and the humor is a big part of what makes this trilogy as fun as I think it is. And all that is coming from someone that rarely reads in german anymore because I much prefer the english language. (I‘m also just not a fan of translations of books anyways)
