Also, shouldn't the Consul tricorne be golden?, just asking.
I read this series while me and my wife were on the verge of divorce. I drove her two hours to one of her graduate courses and finished the last book while she was taking a test. I hadn't expected this series to be so powerful and when I finished the last page, I broke down. Each and every single book had a substantial impact on me, and the grief I felt having finished the series (there was a lot) helped give me the strength to work on my marriage. A few years down the road, and we're about to welcome our first baby -- I still think about this series.
@@magnegrofromx-people4325 [SPOILER] I'm an addict. It's caused a lot of strain. Another is clearly a hard-boiled reminiscent of Gibson's "Neuromancer." I think the Consul's story was probably the least interesting, but it wasn't bad. I've read the masters and there's nobody better than Simmons in these four books. He starts with some close-ups and then keeps pulling back to let you see more and more context until the story is really epic. His use of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in the first half is brilliant. You won't realize until much later that he's really addressing some important questions about artificial intelligence. Rewards rereading.
I'm sorry to hear that. You're very young to be having such issues. I also had heart problems, and i resolved many of mine using natural diet therapy. It took me a while to get invested, but once I finally finished father Hoyt's story, I was hooked until the last book, incredible series. I love how the Pax would use the resurrection later on. Only two things bothered me, and that was Endymion and Aenea's time on that world with the Dalai Lama-like character, and Endymion constantly shagging Aenea while still calling her kiddo lol. A-Betik and Martin were my fav characters throughout, who were yours?
As a fan I'll say: this is a much better use of your voice and energy than making videos about the dune film or wb being generally horrible. I support your struggle against those Corp bastards all day and will boycott any content they have made claims on in solidarity, just let us audience members know when it occurs. Thanks so much for all the amazing lore videos and all your hard work.
The first series I picked up in college to just relax at a coffee shop. It affected me profoundly, and really inspired my love for reading. Nothing has ever come close. The priest's story really affected me as I was attending a Jesuit college at the time. May have had some effect on my view of religion...
This is awesome that I stumbled upon this by chance I red the Hyperion Contos and its definitely my favorite series I never met anyone else who knew about. My copies were real worn out and old I figured it was just an oldschool scifi.
I have never heard of this novel but after watching this video, I am going to purchase series. I red “3 body problem” and then “foundation” series which led me to this. I was never a big reader, always preferred films but wow was I wrong.
This is exactly what I have wanted for a while a basic synopsis of a famous book. I always meant to read but none of the reviews were helpful. Everybody wanted to put in their opinion and I could never get the basic story. Dune is great, but Hyperion remains my all time favorite. It’s the only science fiction that has made me cry. They’d never do it right, but a Hyperion movie would be beyond epic.
I have just finished reading the Fall of Hyperion and i am trying to get a grip on what happened. I have two questions: a) Who created the two Jhn Keats personas and why? Was it Ummon of the Lions, Tigers and Bears? and b) Where did Sol and Rachel went after the went into the Sphinx?

SHRIKE, mind blown. I’ve been in the Navy 22 years now, we used to have a Shrike Missile (AGM-45A decommissioned in ‘92)) hard SF connections to real world development.

Thank you, Quinn…… interesting synopsis….I tend to like SciFi or fantasy that is built on or at least references antique world heritage literature, Emil Petaja’s four books based on the Finnish Kalevala legends come to mind: The Stolen Sun (Journeys and Adventures of Lemminkainen) The Star Milk (Poyjola’s Daughter) [one more to be added in once researched or recalled] and finally, Tramontane (which is really italian for either “three Mountains” or “across the mountains”. A classmate in my Biblical Hebrew online webinars revealed to me that Tolkien was also a Biblical scholar, not just one of English literature of antiquity

Just got the Hyperion Cantos and the new Dune boxset. Thanks for bringing in content to get us interested in these great series!
Love this book. Hope things are going well with the channel.
Your channel is addictive.
Thank you for the recap!
Please do more on the Hyperion Cantos
When describing the pilgrims you flipped the images of The Consul and Kassad. :)
Great content though! More hyperion please
I was just going to comment that! Good eye.
Thanks for the video. Love your work!
At 3:24 you have the images of the Colonel and the Consul swapped. Otherwise great video and very accurate. Love your work man.
I've been dying to read the rest of the series (Hyperion's one of my favorites), so I am glad this video didn't spoil anything!
Your appreciation for the genre and the internal integrity of the story plot character philosophy is sincere and it shows. I have been reading Dune since 85 and you are the only non Frank Herbert that I bother with.
Thank you for the effort

Hyperion explained in 5 minutes, I would have thought this impossible but you've done it. Hopefully that will get more interest in the books so we can see a TV show!
reading the first book now. I have had it on my phone for so long and always told myself that I was going to read it but always put it off. Finally I am going to see what it's about. I have heard nothing but positive reviews about it. Hopefully I enjoy it as much as others have.
I started reading these books because of your suggestion and loved them thank you. Please make more videos on this because some things in the cantos are kinda confusing tho
What is the introduction theme tune? I love it so much and it sounds so familiar but I'm not entirely sure what it is...
I love your videos. Thank you Quinn.
Great summary! I think you have The Captain and the Consul backwards when you focus on the illustrations of them however
Dune is great, but Hyperion remains my all time favorite.
I had the privilege of meeting Dan Simmons in person at a sci-fi convention, many years ago. Very interesting dude.
Great! Only issue I saw was one you addressed in the pinned comment. That, and Merrin Aspic is the name of the Consul’s grandpa. The consul is never named in the books
Great video, thank you Quinn.
Just bought the complete Cantos. Plan on giving it a read.
Brace for a major let down.
The Shrike doesn't find true love? Darn.
@@Nugnugnug LOL...imho it's just sooo pretentious.
The story of Rachel going back in time always brings a tear to my eye at the end
You should have more subscribers.....this is epic...also is the ' All Thing' referring to the World Wide Web and 'Flatline' is like Wi-fi?
SHRIKE, mind blown. I’ve been in the Navy 22 years now, we used to have a Shrike Missile (AGM-45A decommissioned in ‘92)) hard SF connections to real world development.
Ok Quinn, youve convinced me... I gotta order these books now!
I read the 3rd to the last page of The Rise of Endymion while on the bus and on the way home from work. I sat in my car in the parking lot to finish the last pages because i could not wait to get home. And the the tears started.
Quinn I'm from Mexico and I'm big fan of your channel, I found it back a couple of years ago and I really love your content and I'm really glad to see that you like Hyperion as well, have you read Malazan Book of the Fallen from Steven Erikson?
Hyperion is a great story. The first book in the Malazan series, Gardens of the Moon was great too. One of my favorites
This is the best summary I could have ever imagined being done... on the FIRST book of an incredible saga which made me speechless.
Although I'm not such a big fan of the Endymion series...
Thanks Quinn for the introduction
Funnily enough, I've only ever read Simmons' horror/historical fiction until now, but these look fantastic.
I enjoy the different illustrations on the characters. I like the differing head canons....
